Think about it. GTA and Now killer 7. Maybe it IS time for games to be rated properly. Forget all about walmart not carrying the games and blah blah blah. say they WILL carry the games but it be mandated that identification MUST be show ANYWHERE an AO game is sold. Its only a year difference anyway and for 1 maybe the parents would pay more attention anyway and those who bought the games for their kids ANYWAY would just help prove how worthless parents are at parenting these days. For 2 It'd give developers even MORE freedom in what they create.

I honestly think that stories in games have gone to shit. With AO rated games maybe devs would be more liberal in their story telling. Think back to snatcher. I dont think i've ever played a "mature" game (or was it teen?) with a better story and IMO snatcher had more gore, killing and sexual reference than any other game today FOR ITS TIME yet it was done tastefully and cinematically. No different than an R rated movie.

I say bring on the AO games. Better yet the ESRB needs an overhaul for an 18+ with ID required segmnent anyway. Unless there are cocks, balls, tits and twats being paraded around every 10 minutes within a game, NONE should be treated as if it were as bad as porn.

Someone needs to start importing those Japanese porno games, and they need to start making more of them. Then they need to start selling them in places like Gamestop and EBGames, hidden in the back corner behind a wall of beads or a curtain. I mean, video stores do that, and even some book stores have dirty books. We need to move games into the same light.

Having an AO rating carries the stigma of the game being nothing but a ****fest with lots of violence, and also that it's a low qaulity game.

I'd say leave AO rated games alone, and bring in a new rating that is one notch below Mature and one notch above Teen.

Or another simple alternative is to make the Teen rating more broad and make the Mature rating more strict. Currently there is way to much variety in what is considered as a Mature game.

ok so a new 18+ rating. you know what though now that i think about it i really dont understand how or why the government is getting involved with this when last night on FX i watched a great new show called "starved" where head was given on camera pretty much. BRING IT ON. i say start mainstreaming the stuff. Each publisher should try to release 1 high profile AO game every year. Why not? Hollywood does it with R rated movies. I'm not saying flagrantly put porn in games but calling killer 7 or GTA adult only is just stupid. If the govermnent wants to get in on this then the adult only rating should start being used to its maximum potential.

If more AO games were released, they'd be spun off into their own submarket, just as they were when popular in the early-mid '90s (read the small-ads section of a VGA-era computer magazine sometime) and still are in Japan today. The few that had some kind of redeeming quality other than "hey, look, boobs!" might well see all-ages versions published, but the vast majority would have a much greater relation, in terms of sales, marketing, and distribution, to the "porn" half of their lineage than the "games" half, just as people tend to buy "adult" books, videos, and toys all at the same porn shop rather than normal book, video, and toy shops.

And, of course, it'd be just as open to demonization as now. None of the self-appointed moral crusaders have backed off on porn just because you have to be an adult to buy it.

EDIT: Oh, and Acidviper: the Japanese ratings authority, known as CERO, exists, and is actually getting more stringent recently---I'm playing a game right now that seems to have acquired the "12+: minor sexual content" tag for nothing more than rather enthusiastically drawn chest-up character animation cut-ins.

They have ratings on games over there now, called CERO or something which was implemented. But I have no idea what the ratings and stuff are. The only game I have that has a rating is Dragon Quest 8, which looks like it has an 'all audience' rating or something like that.

Maybe someone over there will see this and explain.

Also, some Japanese games have been censored more than the NA games, IIRC, Mortal Kombat 2 had green blood or something in the SFAM version (at least EGM said so).

I've never felt angry or anything when GTA became AO, and now Killer 7 it seems. Who cares? It's not like you can't get the games anymore. Not a big deal at all, more like a step forward to me in a sense. Just, it feels like games are rated unfairly when compared to movies. But then again, maybe they should be rated differently as you are playing a game versus a movie, who knows.

Regardless, I'm an adult so rate games whatever the fuck you like, like I even pay attention to the rating.

More AO games would probably bring more peoples' attention to the worthless ESRB. Games are for kids. The content is the same as movies. The ratings on movies are worthless. I can't tell you how many R movies have a bunch of kids in attendance. Games are no different. The moral crusading can lick my nuts. Games should be unregulated. Parents should be given the ratings. Any parent with a bad rating should have their kids removed and sent to better homes where they can live with people who actually give a shit enough to educate themselves on what their kids are consuming. PREACH IT!!!! although i do disagree when you say "games are for kids". elmos big adventure is for kids. just like big bird goes to the circus on DVD is for kids. would you buy your kid kill bill? no. another thing... worse than both games AND movies is friggin television these days. I mean i could care less because i'm 25 years old but i was mildly shocked last night at the "head giving" scene on FX's starved last night. Hell even the chapelle show is out there.
