How does one of these goes against the other?

Exclusives are not counterproductive, this is the main reason VHS beat Beta, the reason the Atari 2600 beat other consoles from 1976 to 1982, the reason the NES outdid the SMS until 1989, the reason the Genesis beat the TG-16 in N/A (and the reason the PCE outdid the Mega Drive in Japan), this is also why the SNES catched up to the other 16-Bit consoles, lack of decent exclusive content is the reason the Atari Jaguar, the 3D0, etc. never caught on, the exclusives enabled the PSX to outsell both the Saturn and N64 combined, the exclusives enabled the Dreamcast to sell like hotcare for a little while, the exclusives enabled the PS2 to outsell the OG xbox + GameCube (combined again), the Exclusives are what enabled Sony to save the PS3... so on and so forth.

Before you say something like "but PC", sure the PC is great, it has had more exclusives than any other platform over the years (many ending up being ported to consoles, but most never get to the consoles).
