Sony hasn't been japan focused since PS3.
100 percent agree with this statement.nah not even close. quick reminder that western devs made motherfucking bioshock, hitman and prince of persia
japan has done some great stuff but they dont put out what they used to. not to mention companies like square enix and konami making everyone over there look bad
Nintendo read the market correctly and realized the home console market in japan was shrinking in favor of mobile. Making a home console that could also be a handheld gave them the best of two markets they previously had split focus on. They now have a single market to target with games. Kudos to them for making a simple switch. Pun intended!
The gameplay is good but everything else is lackluster, and great sales and popular youtube people saying it was good doesn't mean anything. As a Mario fan, I'd much rather pick up Mario 64 over Odyssey any time
I don't hate Mario and I'm not a console fanboy.Everything else is certainly not lackluster. Great sales and words certainly means a lot of thing over the minority hating it because they hate Nintendo/Mario or console warring
And nothing of value was lost. What you said is true. But Sony lost Keiichiro Toyama and some devs went with him to be part of his new studio Bokeh game studio, which is also true.
And nothing of value was lost.
I disagree but, to each their own.And nothing of value was lost.
I don't hate Mario and I'm not a console fanboy.
Mario 64 is still the best 3D Mario game 26 years after it came out.
My point is that Odyssey is extremely mediocre in comparison to 64.Ok, nobody says Mario 64 is bad here, and Mario Odyssey is still a great game.
Except that Odyssey isn't mediocre as suggested by the overwhelming positive reviews from the masses and great sales, and those who think so, are the minority consist of trolls, console warriors etcMy point is that Odyssey is extremely mediocre in comparison to 64.
Like someone else said, Odyssey just feels like a game about picking up the trash.
I'm being 100% honest, I'm a big Mario fan, Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy are great, but there's a meaning to the word "overrated" and it's when most people say something is better than it actually is.Except that Odyssey isn't mediocre as suggested by the overwhelming positive reviews from the masses and great sales, and those who think so, are the minority consist of trolls, console warriors etc
I am being 100% honest here too with the assessment. I mean, the masses and critics' opinions and the great sales are very strong backings for the argument on why this game is great. We couldn't care less about the opinions who insist otherwise.I'm being 100% honest, I'm a big Mario fan, Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy are great, but there's a meaning to the word "overrated" and it's when most people say something is better than it actually is.
You don't have any real arguments other than "people like it" and "people who don't are trolls and console warriors"
There's something called an "opinion" you know? and it is my opinion that Mario odyssey is a mediocre overrated game that under-delivered. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, I love Mario but I don't like Odyssey and I'm allowed to not like it.
Not everyone has to have the same opinions, otherwise it would be just boring.

I mean...this isn't the mid 00's. That guy did Gravity Rush after that ...but it did nothing for Sony.I disagree but, to each their own.
Sure you do (you are not a "we") . If you couldn't care less then you wouldn't be discussing it. All the sales, critics, and arguments in the world doesn't trump someone else's personal opinion. That is true regardless of the game or the platform.
Its not a “you” here. If the game’s gathering praises from everyone except the minority, its safe to declare the game is great in an overall sense. All of these certainly trump over the personal “opinion”
No, it doesn't. The majority's opinion is still opinion. You can declare it whatever you want. So can I. If I don't like Red Dead Redemption 2 (which I don't) then all the praise from the majority isn't going to change that.
This.Because most of the japanese games were weeboo games.
Yes it does though. You dont like Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t make it a bad game, because the common sentiment is that it is great.
I mean, that still doesn't mean the game is bad. Its really not up to me. Its the general populace that decides it is great.Common sentiment doesn't make it a better game for me though. If you are going to judge games only by what the majority says then that is up to you. According to your logic, you are not able to tell someone if you like a game without checking metacritic.
I mean, that still doesn't mean the game is bad. Its really not up to me. Its the general populace that decides it is great.
Nobody cares if you hate a high quality game there, no worries.
Actually, its right to say the game is great, because we’ll be going by the general opinionsThe majority can view a game positively and an individual can view a game negatively. Neither are wrong.
Actually, its right to say the game is great, because we’ll be going by the general opinions
It is fine to say the game was well-received by most. I have no problem whatsoever acknowledging that about RDR 2. I don't have to agree with it though. To me, RDR 2 was not great at all. That doesn't invalidate the general consensus just as the general consensus doesn't invalidate my opinion.
Nah, its generally understood that if we say a game is great, we’ll be excluding the minority who says otherwise
Well I guess that makes it easy to ignore other points of view then.
well, we shouldn't waste our time on 'opinion' from trolls, or edgy people who loves to hate great and popular things and the like. Their 'opinion' are worthless.
I don’t think luck is needed here.
Ironically the best first party game about Japan wasn’t even made by a Japanese studio: LTTP but Ghosts of Tsushima on PS5 is so damn good and nails the Kurusowa aesthetic better than even From could pull off with Seikiro.Probs because Japan Studios games and Japanese PS games in general sell much less than their western games. Shit’s weak but what can you do.
??? Thats mostly because Sekiro wasn't going for Kurusowa aesthetics and I personally bigger fan of Sekiro's style compare to Ghost of Tsushima.nails the Kurusowa aesthetic better than even From could pull off with Seikiro.
I mean...this isn't the mid 00's. That guy did Gravity Rush after that ...but it did nothing for Sony.
People say Sony abandoned the Japan studio but those games were doing literally 0 for them.
There's a reason they kept the part of the studio making Astrobot. It was the working element of the studio.
Whats the point on having so much senior talent that clearly wasn't producing anything?
Even the Gravity Rush series even if they were generally well received by critics (80 on metacritic overall) no one was playing them...
And Keiichiro Toyama's new game looks bad btw.
I agree, PS3 was definitely filled with exclusives that barely sold, people get emotional over Japan studio but for a huge studio they didn’t output that many games.Sony would have went the way of sega if these “fans” got their way.
Everyone wants sony to make the games they made on the ps3 and psp but no one was buying them
Returnal, the game everyone(but sony) deems a financial failure sold twice as much as any of their in-house japan studio games in 3 months on an brand new extremely supply constrained console for 70 dollars
I agree, PS3 was definitely filled with exclusives that barely sold, people get emotional over Japan studio but for a huge studio they didn’t output that many games.
Sony still bet on Japanese games on PS4, Nioh being a good example. Who knows maybe they have other things planned for PS5.
That being said, people tastes are also influenced by culture… some Japanese games do not resonate with some gamers. I understand Japanese culture/games are Sony identity.
But there’s a balance that has to be made, financial and creative vs risks, specially from a company who keeps making new IPs…
Well I hope so too! smaller team lower bar on what is a commercial success.Well i hope people support Team Asobi’s new game, whatever it ends up as
