Why gamers complain about their games being taken away |OT| Censorship Controversy Central

Sony acting weird when it comes to their new censorship policy and guidelines. Sony didn't release the DMC5 uncensorship patch for EU because Middle east comes only Sony EU while TLOU2 getting banned in Middle east specific instead of whole EU. So when Left SJW view intersect with islamist views, then censorship prevails over entire Sony EU and when Left SJW view offend islamist view, then we have situation like TLOU2 getting banned to that region specific.

Sony has also banned One Piece: World Seeker Hot Springs DLC for North America

How is Sony Censorship policy and guidelines going to handle the situation with upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077?

Sony censorship guidelines/policy came into effect following the #Metoo movement( with PlayStation videogame headquarters moved to California ) and local region specific rating policy which now supersede ESRB/PEGI ratings which get mandated over entire region.

Here is how it works:

1.) Is it Japanese? Censored.
2.) Is it not Japanese? 50/50 chance of not being censored.
3.) Is it from a AAA studio like CDProjektRed or Rockstar? Won't be censored.

Hope Sony move their video-game HQ back to Japan. If Sony censors Cyberpunk 2077, they will suffer a huge backlash with a potential for many of PS4 users to opt for rival platform or even PC.

I consider this is unique to California/USA, the home of Left SJW Feminism because Netflix was caught doing the same with Back to the Future part 2.

They won't censor CDProjektRed. They aren't a japanese studio and are a highly sought after third party european studio. They are safe.

And agreed. HQ needs to go back to Japan. This shit wouldn't fly there.

They did, and they deserve all of it.

Wow. And to make matters worse, whoever is in charge of Gematsu.com CLOSED the comments for that news. Very disappointing behavior from a website that lauds itself as a primary source for japanese games news. And here some people recently claimed Sony's censorship agenda would have quietly ended. It has not, and thus this article I wrote over a year ago is still relevant and needs to be spread:

Apparently it was closed as Gematsu has zero moderators right now and any post about censorship gets overly aggressive. Mostly by ResetEra cunts and twitter no-lifes trying to defend it and antagonize those with issues with the censorship. Sal can't moderator and create content effectively at the same time.

Honestly, at the very least he should clearly include that explanation at the bottom of the news. Expose the pro-censorship authoritarians.

Sadly Sony's censorship won't end

Who knows. With the joke that is TLOU2 and its... scenes and the clear and blatant double standards Sony has shown to it compared to Japanese titles - it is getting around. Numerous larger youtubers and streamers are making videos on it and talking about it, defending the anti-censorship folk and calling out Sony.

I am hoping this does cause a double take with the JPN Sony folks to take back control.

I think a lot of users there (could be Siliconera since they both look the same these days) argued about Freedom of Speech, and I think the Mods kept saying it "Broke the rules" despite getting huge backlash for it.

And although I am all for Freedom of Speech and lax moderation, NicheGamer don't seem to moderate anything and let even lolicon stuff on their comments section (I was shocked that they could do that tbh), so there does need some balance between letting people debate and argue what can and cannot be censored and at the same time not let your users go Wild West.

Sony seems to be getting flak as the above poster said but I doubt the Japanese side will take back control of the American side as the latter seems to have definite control of the Playstation Brand now. (likely because the market is catered to the West mostly with even the Japanese audience not really caring about Sony products anymore).

Can you link 2-3 such videos? Or is just the usual TheQuartering that nobody takes seriously? Would be great, though, if more prominent youtubers finally talked about it.

As long as "lolicon stuff" means "anime girls", I don't see what needed to be moderated there, unless they allow posting straight up hentai images, that'd be a bit weird.

I'm continuously negatively surprised about how quiet the big gaming websites keep about Sony's censorship, though. It's as if CNN stopped reporting on drug crimes, because *they* are fine with drugs. If something is a huge happening in the industry you're covering, it's your duty as a news website to report on it. But no, instead they post news about some random streamer saying the igger-word and then ruining him. That's why everyone calls it "games journalism" - because actual journalism wouldn't need the demoninator.

Thx a lot. Could you give a very quick evaluation about those channcels? I don't know any of them. Just asking because usually (unfortunately) right-leaning youtubers are the only ones reporting on Sony's censorship. Are these also rather conservative channcels or how else could you describe them and their audience?

They certainly have a lot of subscribers, so that's good anyway.

All are very much left-leaning in political views. Though by left-leaning, I am referring to the sane view of progressivism, not this far-left cult-like mindset that seems to have seeped through in the 2010s.

Actual Hentai stuff and really disturbing stuff too.

Most websites draw a line at least.

While I'm okay with hentai stuff, it's totally understandable that news websites wouldn't want it in their feed xD Just like NeoGAF is mostly well moderated, but ofc posting porn would get you in trouble, too.

Yea, I stopped going to NicheGamer and OAG for their god awful communities. They are the polar opposites of Kotaku and ResetEra. Going from Far-Left to Far-Right. Virtually the same given the horsehoe theory folks like Papa Papa like to post.

Yeah, OAG became completely unhinged. I don't know what happened in his life, because he wasn't like that a year ago. Sure, he had the occasional dumb news, but he mostly focused on reporting on censorship and japanese niche games. Now he's a full-on alt-right homophobe, who's probably being watched by the FBI for making his "list", *cringe.

Same but yeah, there's a place/sites for all that. Makes little sense to start posting it up in news site comments/feeds and just detracts from the main point I since others use that as ammo against the idea of it.

Recent censorship on an already All-Ages version game (though it's not the first time) is just ridiculous after seeing TLOUP2. That shit is more Eroge than the Eroge I've played. I don't know why or when they decided to move HQ to USA during this generation, but whoever they have in charge of making these checks are of the same ilk as Era. Nintendo's hand-off policy should be the industry standard.

Unfortunately, the Clique will dismiss this because there's no source to prove it, even though they themselves never demand sources when something suits their agenda.

It's not something new, anyway, but if true, it confirms what we thought for the past couple years already.

I find it weird how easy it is to dismiss PlayStation from my life because of Sony's censorship agenda. It's such a strong turn off that I don't feel like missing out on something at all. I will be sad not being able to play Team ICO's next game, but that's really it.

YES YES BURGER-SAMA JUST TAKEU OUR GEIMU AND CENSOR THEM FOR THE DUMB BURGERS. IT ARE OK. WE HAVEU NO DIGNITY.
Japan cares about Japan. See Nintendo and Nintendo of America for a clear example of them not caring about translations and "localization". Pointing this out doesn't mean I'm ok with them doing it either. It is just common knowledge.

It is indeed an issue that Japanese developers are of one of two minds:

1.) They don't care about censorship to western version. This, however, should be less relevant here, because Sony demands censorship in JApanese games, too.

2.) More importantly, Japanese politeness plays into Sony's fascism. The vast majority of japanese developers just won't ever speak up when asked to change something sexy. There are rare examples of attempts to defend their game, namely Senran Kagura-developer before he quit making sexy games altogether so he could keep making games on PlayStation :/ You have someone at Atlus speaking up against the censorship in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Now PQube speaking up because of the change in Kaikano. I also remember that game that received 2 differently named version in Japan and the publisher basically mocking the PlayStation-version. But that happens so rarely.

The Devs should do what they did to Nintendo during the 32-Bit era and jump ship to Xbox/Nintendo and see how many people switch allegiances due to it.

Probably not much but the Devs will have a new Home and Microsoft have a new market.
I think even pure exclusive Nintendo could work given no one even notices Xbox on Japan side sadly. Would be great for Microsoft though.

We all cater to our Home Market but that Sales Slice is getting smaller and smaller for Japanese Developers not named Nintendo who will have to either suck it up and censor for a Global Market, go to a new Ecosystem without Censoring or continue the status quo with smaller sales every passing decade.

The last option is going to kill off a lot of studios.

Global Market? All they have to do is jump ship to anything not Sony until they get their shit together.
There should be more Asian games with english subs. Like that DOA volleyball game.
They talk?
