Why the PlayStation 5 still using Bluray will make most of its revealed specs useless and void, and why they should ditch it for alternatives.

No one is questioning the disc as DRM. What we are questioning are your claims of a performance hit due to continuous checks and scans of the disc from "blu ray drm codecs" slowing down transfer speeds from a separate hard drive or ssd. I am fine with any PS hacking scene documentation OR official documentation. From the screeds you write it gives the interpretation that you don't understand what a codec actually does or what a DRM check actually is.

No, the performance hit is after the game is installed. The game was made with the Bluray format in mind. Even in the SSD the Bluray codec and DRM are still in the disc. so you can't increase the read speds any higher than the max Bluray will allow you even with a SSD because it was only formatted to go a certain maximum speed.

You can work around this by using the laser to read the disc at the same time as the SSD running the install but that creates latency.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I..........

what.....

Can someone please explain how this works in ONE post, instead of multiple small posts by different people so he actually keeps up and understands?

Freedom Gate Co. Freedom Gate Co. seems to like reading garbage news articles, so maybe this will help (circa 2013)

The disc installation is required on PS4 because the console is not designed to read games off of discs.

I never said the game ran off the disc. I said the codecs when you download to the SSD will still make the install to slow to take advantage of SSD speeds since the DRM is continously checked even installed.

Funny. I stick a disc in my ps4 and it installs in a few minutes. Then I play the game just fine without slowdown. The load times aren't even long.

This is on a non ssd.

Hahaha, no.

Ohhh but havent you heard? thats old news that affected the ps3 only
With PS4 SONY invented HTNL5 codec (code name Wyvern) it runs of a secondary ARM processor located in the power brick, it effectively nullified any performance penalty
They sold the license to MS that's why the xbone was more expensive at launch ($500 vs $400) and their GPU/Memory config was weaker because they used alot of the budget money paying Sony for the next generation Wyvern codec license.

Its fascinating stuff really, if you got time i suggest you read up on it.

Bluraydiscs aren't made with SSD in mind, they were formatted for HDD. There are fast HDD but the tech that makes SSD's faster is different from HDD's.

this is some really high level trolling. my hat is off to you. had me going for a second lol!

I agree. They should put games on SSDs since they are getting so cheap. Just have a slot that fits into an esata port. That way you could save on the internal storage space too because you could just run games from their own SSD

So if PC games still came on discs, and the exact same installation files we have today were printed on blurays, PC gaming would not see any benefits from SSDs anymore?

PC's are not a closed platform, so there's nothing proprietary making the installation process only a one-way connection.

For the PS5, if I download a game, the DRM and codec are proprietary because Bluray is a proprietary format. DVD was the last open format we had, which is why it was easy to upgrade, enhance, and crack. The PS5 OS is also made with Bluray in mind.

It's that exclusive software that makes the SSD never reach its full potential.

Blu Ray was released in 2006, SATAIII was released in 2009. Therefore, SATAIII is faster than Blu Ray.

Duh.

It's not like the two technologies are complimentary, and when SATAIII was introduced they created faster Blu Ray drives that could take advantage of it. No way.

Damn dude. And
MODERN SSD drives. The ones that are fast. SANTAIII

Just stop

Yes, because Bluray was made for HDD not modern SDD. No Bluray supports SATAIII or higher speeds. It's capped at SATAII at most, but it's maximum is the fastest HDD which is faster than SATAII.

So all Sony has to do is make a custom bluray disc that is made for SSD in PS5. Assuming what you said is true that is. You haven't provided any links to back up your claim.

Its been humorous.

Boom, game-set-match. Feel free for all the above users to apologize, I'll accept it with open arms.

My question is, will a blu ray optical drive be hindered at all by being connected to a sata 3 port, especially when i'm going to be playing 4k video though it on my 4k monitor. (in the future).

  • Wont matter, blu-ray will not exceed SATA 2 (3Gb's)

Can't do modern SSD's as I said, confirmed!

What does that have to do with the game already installed on a hard drive?

All that reinforces is they moved away from streaming off of Blu-ray because of how slow it is compared to a mechanical or solid-state drive.

Once the game is installed on the hard drive, the disc serves zero purpose other than a check in.

Why aren’t you getting this?
