"We're just going to dogpile new stuff on top of all the old" as your iterative design strategy creates massive issues with acquiring and retaining new players.
Except when it comes to MOBAs.

I can't tell if you're sarcastic
I don't like Rage mechanic and long combos in Tekken. I don't like comeback mechanics in 1v1 fighters (or even 2v2 fighters where you win after killing after 1 character).

Tekken combos have generally become longer over time.

Tekken 3 Standard juggles -> TTT Tag combos -> Tekken 4 Wall combos + height based combos -> Tekken 5 wall combos, removed height based combos -> Tekken 6 Bound combos -> TTT2 more advance tag combos plus all the other stuff before it.

Ya, because adding more heroes totally solves the whole "people pick this hero over x,y,z because this hero does their job but better.

You run into a ST akuma dilemma easily if there were 20 more shotos in SF

What's amazing for me is it's hard for me to find the community online. I just don't know where the cod comp scene hangs out at. There's no thread on gaf to my knowledge, and nothing ever pops up on reddit. I see it on Twitch, but other than that, I have no idea. I should check over on Gamebattles.

well it's not like there's a thread on GAF for LoL either, and it's the biggest game out there competitively
then again CoD is particularly invisible for whatever reason

They don't add more heroes to solve balance issues...they add more heroes to keep people playing the game and putting money into it.

At the very least in DOTA 2 there is no ST Akuma situation.

I remember in LoL, every new hero was ST akuma.

Xin Zhao, Vladmir, Kogmaw being my most standout "what the fuck they are obviously making these guys overpowered so people buy them with riot points" heroes.

Irelia, Lee Sin, Vayne, NOCTURNE I only remember these names because how fucked up they were. I quit playing right before Wu Kong, but I've been told he was Xin Zhao 2.

I dont mind getting hit by long combos if they look cool. But honestly anything past the 12 second mark is a little absurd unless it's using a bunch of meters up or what ever.

Yeah, in LoL's case it's clearly not an accident that they're tuned to the "stupid" side on release than nerfed later.

I don't know if TTT2 would be the same game if it didn't have netsu.
Netsu is a completely separate metagame that really adds to the depth and breadth of the gameplay system.

As far as combos, I will just re-post combos from Final Round. Tag assaults make everything more fun and creative.

They can't just use the Tekken 3 system because stuff like low block stagger, crush moves and low parry were good stuff. As were stuff like easier throw breaks in Tekken 5. Also damage from random hits was insane in Tekken 3, like half life taken from eating a counter hit Paul Death Fist (LOL!).

I can live without Rage mechanic and long ass combos though.

I don't think easier throw breaks were a good thing at all- throws are the most visually pleasing part of Tekken since they're pretty creative, and yet you almost never see them in high-level play due to being breakable on reaction at that level.

Not sure low parry is really necessary anymore either (note, not saying it's bad at all- just saying it isn't necessary for Tekken to be good)

Don't think half life death fist on major counter is a bad thing either, provided it's balanced. It was like a fierce slash in SamSho.

Yeah, the netsu game was something I could figure out just from watching Tekken matches (I did watch some of the Green Land streams when I did my morning bike workouts this winter, usually it was Tekken Monday and Topanga tuesdays since I usually did it around 8:30am or so)

VF really has the same combo system as Tekken now in general, but VF gets to the point a little bit quicker, which is good, outside of wall combos. VF has some really stupid wall combos.

You mean the Naruto Ninja Storm games?

I have played them and while they are better than DBZ games they are still too cinematic in their game play for me to take them seriously. Great visuals and presentation though.

No, I don't mean the Naruto Ninja Storm games. I mean the Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen games for Gamecube.

I don't know man if I wanted fun/creative combos I will always have Marvel 3.

KOF98 had some really creative combos , and some really weird combos like Chang double DM, Ralf Kick into super, Sadomaso into super. GGPO Chinese matches were a treasure trove of fun stuff I unleashed in tournies to gimmick folks out.

(wasn't all combos either)

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.

Those were some really good decent fighting games. Shame they never took off like the ultimate ninja series did. Revolution 3 on wii was also pretty good.

tekken combos are not long man...you just see the flexibility of the system a lot in them

how u play marvel and complain about tekken combos? what on earf?

i see what you are saying, in that the general trend has been for them to elongate, but cmon bro...

Because different game series have different expectations.

Just because I like something in one game doesn't mean I think it's appropriate in another. And to be honest I don't like some of the longer combos in Marvel either (Zero loops, Doom loops and Vergil loops bore me like they bore any other player/viewer).

In other news can someone please tell Eventhubs to update their UMVC3 tier list? They still have Wesker as top 4.

Usually though like people have said anything feels clunky when you don't understand it. 2D fighters are like that to me for the most part.

I give the games their time and don't stop playing within a day, I play my fair amount and after that if it feels clunky still, I don't wanna play it. Basically what happened with me for injustice (but I guess all NRS games are clunky? According to people)

To me it's mostly Tekken that feels more clunky and slow than the others.

Although, I never spent enough time to be amazing at movement in that game though.

I see tekken as one of the fastest 3D fighting games lol. Peoples movement in that game is nuts. Looks fun too.

maybe just have a bunch of regs fill out the answers whenever, so you have a pile of already done spotlights you can put up if need be

I like MvC3's combo system. I love it, in fact. But I prefer TTT2 over it. Things are exciting when stuff is off-axis and you don't know what's going to happen.
