Bought this last week and finally got my validation code issue sorted out.

Going to start this tonight. I have a Cyborg X stick and a sidewinder force feedback. I suspect FFB isn't really useful and the extra buttons and throttle will help more?

Anyone tried stereoscopic 3D?

I'm trying to think of a good gamer name in anticipation of Tuesday... just wondering are we able to change it at a later date or are we stuck with it? Also is it first name/last name or just last name?

We have been able to change during the alpha/beta/gamma, not sure that will still be the case after release. You can do multiple names with spaces if you want a full name.

The servers are a mess today. If launch day is like this (or likely worse) then this going is going to get absolutely shredded online after the always online fiasco.

Id love some kind of in-cockpit mp3 player. Itd be awesome to be able to just pull up some kind mp3 menu and listen to your own tunes while cruising around the cosmos

I've only just realised that this was anything to do with Elite! I feel so stupid....

If you're on a budget then the Thrustmaster HOTAS X. If not then a Saitek X52 or X55.

My Saitek X52 came in today and it works natively with Elite very well. I've been having a blast playing the single-player combat tutorials. It's definitely better than the ol' m/kb setup.

Sooo after spending about 1 hour ( unstable server not helping ) trying to find a station selling a mining laser ( refinery already brought ), I need do know... where the hell to they sell those ? completly random ?

I'll give it a try, last 2 system I tried were about extraction I think, but only minor station, half of them didn't even allow outfitting, and all of them were pretty far from the sun.
Seems pretty crazy business wise to make a station close to asteriod belt or planet with ring and not think "hey I should probably sell mining laser to people who come here". ^ ^

Maybe you're right, but I feel like the price point for the game is above the standard user on steam will pay for non big AAA title (and even those most steam users wait for a sale) so I feel like you'd get a jump in users but I'm just not sure quite how many. That could also potentially bring about server stability issues. Through word of mouth and communities a manageable swell in additional players may come anyways and without the 30% fee from steam. I feel like they are smart to wait and see how well they can do independent from Steam. But it's most likely what we both said, which is waiting to see the reaction, if/when sales become tepid, then they may start selling on steam.

People who pre-ordered but weren't beta backers can play the tutorials only, they can't get the main game until Tuesday.

Really shitty servers right now, though. This is actually the first time since I started playing that I've actually been booted from the game because of the servers, and multiple times now. And I'm playing solo... their servers better be up to task on Tuesday or this shit will be unplayable.

It doesn't seem to work in open play groups either. My buddy is never in the same seed as me, I'd like to be able to back him up in fights, or on missions etc.

Also it's ours, let me know if anyone wants to help out. I need to wait until the day of release to create the thread once I get the go ahead right?

That's one thing this game is missing... some way to see what your friends are doing or anything to show you're connected and in the same (literal) universe.
Maybe some leaderboards, or some sort of galactic guilds or something. Just a way to see what people is doing, where was the last Station or Orbital or whatever place where they checked in, etc... there's so much information that could be shared to make everything more interesting.

I'm not sure, I haven't been able to actually "see" my buddy yet. But we've been in different areas 98% of the time anyways. Can anyone else shed some light?

Edit: I know they have said there will be slaved frame shift jumps for larger ships, so I imagine you'll have to be able to join the same instance as your friends at some point.

Not yet. Wings are coming next after launch, and they have said that with that will be better multiplayer tools and features. So at release the social features are kind of thin.

I mean yeah you can play together, but it doesn't always put you in the same instance with friends. Once grouping tools are in the game then it will.

Just pre-ordered and jumped into the combat training with kb/m, surprised how well it works! Feels not quite natural but I got the hang of it in no time. Mouse x-axis set to roll, of course, yaw just feels weird.

I was worried the combat was going to be kind of boring, but they managed to break up the old space-sim endless circles dog-fighting with flight assist and boost pretty decently. But the immersion of it is just nuts, and that's what has really sold me on it.

Haven't beaten incursion yet but man I'm trying. Got to round 10 once so far, but only after blowing out my canopy in a final salvo trade-off with round 9's guy so I wasn't getting much done after that.

Whatever, you're all used to it by now and I'm rambling, but it totally rules. Thanks for hyping me up for this, GAF!

Farther than I got. I made it to about round 6 and then got smashed.

Playing through the combat tutorials to kill some time and get acclimated to the X52. Holy shit at the abitlity to change movement. It's fun to try and get ahead of a ship, toggle off flight assist, turn the ship around but keeping the same velocity and heading and shooting at a guy behind you or next to you. It is an awesome feeling. If you guys can, be sure to get a HOTAS, it's a huge difference.
