Dead or Alive 5: Last Round |OT| Bouncing on new systems.

The console versions were also 4 points. For some reason, it defaulted to "console" controls (3 point holds) instead of arcade. You could change the counter option when you changed your controls.

DoA2 was a 4 point hold system. It had the option on consoles for 3 points, but it was not designed that way. Why would Ultimate have 4 point holds if the original didn't?

Well the more you know. Says command type in my DoA2 Hardcore manual. I guess that's the switch between 3 and 4 point system?

Is this a patch that automatically unlocks everything or something?

It gives you a code to unlock all costumes, except Honoka and Raidou I think.

Mine installed when I launched my PS4, but the code is to go to the Options menu and press all the shoulder buttons.

Thanks, I'll check it out! I unlocked most stuff in DOA5U but didn't bother with the save transfer, so I'd rather not have to go through all that again.

Does it automatically download? I don't think I got any notification or code.

It's actually a patch and when we say code it's actually a "cheat code". Just go to options and push all shoulder buttons at the same time then it should unlock stuff. The code is even shown as the second message on that news thing.

Yeah, that's it. I played DoA2 in arcades, so when it came home and defaulted to 3 point counters, I immediately looked for a way to change it. I think 3 point counters are terrible, even in DoA3. I liked many things about it, but always hated that.

I don't know why DoA2 defaulted to 3-point.

Thank you both. Hopefully I get an answer soon.

Off-Topic: Bayonetta, what is your avatar from?

I emailed them through the .co.jp account and not the actual NA one since the .co.jp one is the one they were openly advertising on social media, I might try the NA direct one if the .co.jp one doesnt get me anywhere.

Honestly, I'd like to see the 3 point system return as at least an option like in DoA2. It would also interest me what the preferences are between 3 point and 4 point. Maybe we need a poll?
I can see 3 point being more popular for the casual player, anecdotal but it was for me(when I was still casual) at least.

What I personally currently don't like is that the low hold low profiles high attacks :|. So if they do re-introduce 3 point, I'd like to see that gone.

Also calling counters a 1:3 or 1:4 isn't quite correct. Since there is also the timing, throw component and some more stuff in the equation.

Anyway I'm fine with either as long as it's fun.

Specify system next time because PSN could be PS3 or PS4.

I would join but I got work soon =/

With Shin it's usually always PS4.

I think, if they return to 3 point holds, then the timing needs to be much tighter. Somebody earlier in the thread said the timing is more strict, and it is, but it's a difference of a few frames. I'd say it's hardly noticeable.

It should definitely NOT be an option as 3 point holds entirely change the way you can approach a character. It should be standard if it's changed (and I hope they don't).

And yes, low counters avoiding highs needs to go, period. Whether it's 3 or 4 point holds.

Sounds like you hate options :p. Different approach different gameplay I would have no problem with that, as long as they are being kept separate.

Practically speaking VF5FS has a 3 point tight timings counter with specific characters like Akira. But that's probably too tight.

I really hope they never revert back to 3 point.. if anything I would like the counter system to be even more complex, like advanced holds only. low holds leaving you standing would be good too even if it would look a bit weird at first.

I think in general counters are more risky than they used to be with a tighter window and the Critical Burst, bating out counters is a great strategy to get a CB. I know people online tend to panic when they are being hit and spam out counters to get out of it, but I always say try and block or only counter when you understand the string as see it coming.

In this case youre talking about a fighting game where 2 people would not be on even ground if the counter system is different, so its not a good idea for it to be optional. If they did it but kept it separate then what would that do to online community and offline tournaments? you'd basically have 2 versions of the game.

I love options. But if you only have to guess mid, and I have to guess mid punch or mid kick, that's stupid. That changes the mindset behind the moves I choose to do. Strings that are mixups with 4 point hold no longer are. I don't want it separate, I want a game designed cohesively around a single decision.

I agree 1000% with this post.

As I said keep it separate as in not mix-and-match. I have no idea why you would even think that 3 point and 4 point should be playing together at any point.

It would probably do nothing to online community and offline tournaments? Online communities are pretty loose and people will just choose whichever they like more whether it's 3 point or 4 point. If either one dies out, that's fine too.

Offline tournaments TO's and the competitive community will do whatever they want anyway, evidently looking at the costume soft ban. So if they want to settle at 4 point? More power to them.

I'm also starting to think that there is a severe disconnect between casual players and dedicated players. Considering that you guys want it to be even more complicated when you see a lot of players saying that they like the game because it doesn't feel as complicated/overwhelmed as a traditional fighter.

Well, yes, there's always going to be a disconnect between competitive and casual players.

I would rather they choose a standard and stick with it, not add something in that doesn't belong after the fact. Design the game around a unified vision for counters and it will be better off for it.

Here's the thing. What makes KT more money? It surely ain't the small competitive base. I even wonder who's actually buying the costumes.

I couldn't care less. I'm talking about my enjoyment.

Obviously the casual market is the money maker, that doesn't change my preferences and opinions.

Honestly, I consider myself "casul" as fuck in this game but I still like the sound of 4 point system more.
I say "sound" because I never played DOA3, so I didnt experience the 3 point system, but I dont the 4 point system makes the games harder, just give more options to the gameplay.

I'd say basic human virtue like empathy?

It's videogames. Not that serious to me. It's a hobby and I place my enjoyment of time spend with it over that of others.

Casual fans have their priorities, and that's fine.

Myself and others like Xion have other priorities, and that's fine, too. I'm perfectly willing to accept that DoA will never be what I wish it would be, but that doesn't mean I won't express disappointment or spout ideas on visible message boards, social media, and through surveys when I have the opportunity to do so.

You could still try it with DoA2: Hardcore :p. Though I heard the emulation adds lag, so not fully optimal.

And this is why I'm glad that most devs don't listen too much to the community.

No skin off my back. :)

I guess we can agree that whatever they do they won't please everybody. So they might as well do whatever they want and displease everybody :p. Just like the DoA TO's.

The whole game...

Sounds like it. From the EU Blog about Ultimate Core Fighters:

DOA5U: Core Fighters players who purchase all unlock keys separately (characters, Story mode, and music) are eligible to earn trophies the same as players who purchase the full version key and upgrade to DOA5U in one go. A full version key will be available to these players for free download in order to enable to trophy unlock feature.

Casual here (I don't do online either).

I'd like to see a 3-point mode in the options for offline at least. Plus if I have friends over, we just want to beat each other up while seeing cool stuff without having to master it.

Ok, so I have to buy the story mode as well as all the characters. That kinda sucks as there are quite a few characters I won't use. The only times I use many of these guys in the past was to unlock all of their costumes. Is story mode the same as the Vita version?

Thanks.

Yeah they haven't done anything to the story. Unless they have updated the prices, it doesn't make sense to buy everything individually. It is cheaper just to buy the full game.

I am again free to roam the halls of GAF unbanned. I love me some DOA but yo I am super duper garbage at this game now. My hands and brain simply refuse to play it properly. I perhaps need to just fall back to Jann Lee until I am comfortable with the game again.

Low counters giving low profile like it does is really dumb. That's really my only problem with the system.

3 point with the current window would be fine with me. 4 point I really dislike though, it's just a guessing game with such a small window. The way they were before was how the game was designed, it was always supposed to be a significant part of the fight and a key difference between this series and others.

Just felt like I needed to chime in on this, even though I'm a bit late.

You're saying that you want 4-point counters dropped because with a smaller window it becomes a "guessing game". In actuality it has the opposite effect. You want the 3-point system reinstated so that you can be rewarded with a successful hold at times where you weren't actually sure which attack came next. You want to be able to guess when to hold, rather than actually respond knowing exactly which attack follows.

Hell no to 3 point counter system. The 4 way is the best way.

Does DOA bring you significantly more viewers than the other games you stream? Because it sure as hell does for me lol

I am at 134 viewers. I am doing better numbers than pxg. DOA brings numbers like nothing else.
