Osaka Cygames established to expand business presence [Current project is a PS4 game]

Mobile dev going console.

Are things finally turning around? ;)

I know they're not.

In an ideal world, mobile devs that make it big on a one-hit-wonder will invest into broader games development. Sure, those games will likely have a poorer ROI, but at least you build a portfolio of customers on both spectruems, the whales and the $60 ones.

Seeing a mobile focused developer make a move towards consoles is surprising.

Rage of Bahamut was really successful.

I remember the devs saying they had 10million users in 2013.

A mobile dev taking the millions they earn from whale hunting into console business and from japan of all places.

I hope they become extremely successful and pave the way for everyone to follow them.

Technically Gungho was the first, but their reinvestment into the console business hasn't turned out so well...

The game business of CyberAgent break record in sales and operating income over the last six months. So they are not opening this PS4 studio because of a decline in mobile but to carry on the expansion of the game business I guess. Very interesting move for sure.

Cool. I like this...Make money in a lucrative but a more tedious gaming environment and use said money to do something more ambitious.

After PnD devs make 3DS, now we come to this.
It's so strange and bizzare that mobile big names investing to traditional platform while the older publishers throwing so much shit to the mobile market and ignoring their old market platform.

Rage of Bahamut RPG anyone?
a fully realised game in the animes world would be awesome.

Oh yeah, card game-RPG hybrid would be cool

I think that the headline is somewhat misleading.

This is the press release from Cygames. They specifically state that they established Osaka Cygames for the purposes of headhunting talented software engineers and to expand their business presence in the western region of Japan. The development of a high end PS4 game is simply the current project the new studio is working on. They do not mention whether they are publishing it or if it is a contract project. Cygames already mentioned last year that they were working on a PS4 title though, so this could simply be an expansion of that same project.

The main purpose of this studio is to expand their business presence and hunt for more talent who aren't based in the Tokyo area. It is not a studio made just to create PS4 games. Don't be confused.
