DOOM Gameplay Demo (E3 2015)

Very satisfied by this gameplay.

Health Bar
Armor Bar

Very fast, ( fast is good )
BFG ( yes )
Supershotgun ( yes )

Close instant kills are fast and cool ( Yes )
Chainsaw dacapitation were SUPERB

The 2nd vids with the areas showed how tense those places can be ( again , excellent )
Sharing content is an excellent way to keep the community active

Verdict ( for me ) : Doom looks So freaking excellent

I know, right. Compare and contrast that to what has just been shown off. New DOOM just has flourishes of pointless animations for picking up weapons, melee attacks and finishers. Slows down gameplay. Original DOOM is twitch gaming at its best. Everything is fast and has a purpose, and even the most basic weapons hit hard.
Remember, what you saw was an E3 demo. Flourishes - in my opinion - exist on first weapon pickup, lets the player see the detail before they begin using it.
Melee finishers are cool, I like them, but I doubt players will be using them much during speed runs.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
As I pointed out in the stream thread, the hell level they showed shows that this is not the case.
We can't tell yet. The hell area might just be an arena. Arena shooters, aka go into big room, shoot, repeat - is extremely boring (Painkiller, etc).

Are you kidding me?

They actually managed turn hell into a CORRIDOR!

Jest because you can look left and right, and see a pretty background to look at, does NOT, change the fact you are stuck walking down a path, 5 meters wide, until it opens up into a little arena to kill all the bad guys, and go back onto the 5 meter path.

There is no doom here. You know, Doom, where you had to survive and FIND the exit? Not walk down a hallway power masturbating until you get to the end.

You know what would make a better doom? If you played one of the poor helpless little monsters having to survive the onslought of the OP context sensitive win button marine, until you found a way to escape.

That looks AWFUL. Cracked screen when you're hit? M4 rifles? Punching?

Made by a neo-nazi no less.

Thank you two so much. At least I'm not alone in the world.

Looks slow and boring. It's hard to come back to classic Doom corridor gameplay after experiencing CS, COD4 and now, Splatoon which is taking the shooter genre to new heights.

Looks solid, really hoping they dont scimp on modding tools.

-graphics are very attractive
-monster in-fighting seems to be back
-levels looked like they might be non linear?
-no irons sights
-lots of projectiles to dodge it looks like
-no cover bullshit
-no hp regen

some worry areas
-are as people have said non distinct enemy designs.
-the plasma rifle isnt doing it for me
-super shotgun sound isnt there nor is it powerful enough.
-not fast enough
-not enough enemies
-scope on the machinegun? that for consoles or something
-I'll reserve judgment of colour pallete until I see more levels
-the enemies glowing blue and red wasnt an effect I liked

overall its a win for now, its rare enough to see a shooter drop health regen & iron sights that kinda defaults it to better than 90% of whats out there.

People were saying they should be taking notes from Machine Games but maybe I didnt play the same Wolfenstein, all kinds of cover shooting and iron sights in that thing witrh sloppy stealth parts to boot.

Someone else noticed that! Thank you. This right here is what took the game from instabuy to probably not gonna get it.
I wouldn't look to much into that. That's most likely an easy difficulty thing. put it on Hard and the drop rate will probably be like 10% or something

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
Holeee shit, give it to me now! This is the old quamecon demo? Bring on e3. Wow!!!

My hype has cooled intensely after that singleplayer trailer. Multiplayer looks like it could still be good, and I love the look of those creation tools.

At least if it was a room, it was a nicely-designed room.

The arena was presumably what he was talking about.

I agree it's not great, but it's still far better than the first area.

All I got from that was if I liked DOOM 1 or 2 I should pick up Brutal DOOM, if I liked Doom 3 I should pick up this new one.
The only thing they got right was the sound of the doors.

EDIT: MOD tools look fun though

Dude on the post show is talking about "arenas". It's not looking good.

BioShock Infinite went the arena route, and it was terrible.

Errrr.

The first demo they showed was a corridor, hell definitely wasn't.

The melee finishers (like Serious Sam 3) are an odd thing to add. Fresh at first, but at the rate you mow down the enemies in this game, these animations are bound to become tiresome rather quickly. Hopefully completely optional.

Ammo and health magnet is a godsend for me. Customizable weapons? Yes please.

Looks nice and bright too.

Gimme.

I came again

I would like to see, based on the brief footage we had, a 50% health reduction in enemies, and maybe 2-3x the number of enemies to fight.

This is a real shame, it's a franchise with so much potential, so much history, and with people so heavily invested both emotionally and financially, but it's just a generic spunkgargleweewee. I wanted to believe.

I wish more developers were making generic spunkgargleweewee.

Pretty happy with what I saw, jaw dropping graphics, brutal kills and traditional old school gameplay. This is what Doom is about.
Aiming could be improved though and I'd like to see more variety in the environments plus many more enemies on screen at the same time.

That's what Doom is. It doesn't need anything... extra.
Hopefully this thing won't be saddled with extra.
...
Damn it, now i'm doubting it.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of enemies like you said. Two or three on screen? Come on. That's not Doom.

Some people just need to be contrarian for feel the need to find SOMETHING wrong. Nobody is saying this is best game ever, but damn, I don't think it's all that hard or that difficult to swallow your pride and just admit this game looks good. Maybe not your cup of tea, but still damn good.

Hell, I was REALLY impressed.

Yeah, this is why I didn't like the new Shadow Warrior. It's just mindless repetition. I at least like it in Serious Sam, but in that game the enemy designs are much more interesting. I almost want to call it lazy, but the arenas at least looked nice.

Hell was a corridor, then a very nicely designed multi-level arena, and then at least one other corridor going out from the arena. It was kinda hard to tell, especially since the level design for the demo is probably just limited to what they needed to show for the demo.

They had a health bar but every enemy dropped insane amounts of health so like yeah okay it's not really a resource to manage so whatever.

I am not okay with melee finishers in a doom game.

It looked slow but smooth which is weird, it didn't ever give me a heart pounding moment or anything.

It looks very eh, also I would have liked if you could keep the visor HUD up.

The graphics are fantastic and it really has the artistic style of a Doom game. As others have said though, I really hope it follows classic Doom level design and isn't' as linear as most FPS games are these days. It's hard to tell from the demo, and everything was very clearly scripted and made just for E3. Fingers crossed.

If this was a new IP being shown off, criticism would be different. But it's not a new IP, its the sequel to one of the most beloved FPS games ever. DOOM 1+2 played nothing like this. This is heavily scripted, slow paced, and all about gory visceral finishers. Rather than high speed movement and shooting, circle strafing, crowd control, map exploring perfection.
