Mad Max: Review Thread.

ITT: Bail out of Mad Max, get sold on fucking Wolverine.

A recent game that I ignored "average" reviews for was Until Dawn, and it turned out to be one of my favorite games of the gen. I've just given up on reviews and all of the bragging/nontravercies/fighting that comes with them. I can't wait until tomorrow to buy this and Phantom Pain.

+1

Gameplay videos is all I need to see. As I've said before I've loved games that reviewed average and hated games that are supposedly goty material. Mad max looks great to me so it was an insta buy.

Reviews mean nothing to I.

No idea why people take reviews so personally, how many of you worked on the game? Are your bonuses tied to the reviews?

You care so little about reviews, you still come into a review thread.
I wouldn't be surprised if you'd be gushing if the first reviews were 9s, but since a low average seems to come in, the time for kneejerk reactions has come and acting all superior, lol.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Seriously. Honestly did anyone at avalanche even see the movie? He looks nothing like Tom Hardy.

This isn't based on Fury Road. Plus this game looks really low budget so I doubt they had the money to pay Tom Hardy for his likeness.

Though I don't know why they'd go with such a bland character design, looks like something out of the PS3 gen of generic main characters.

I come into review threads as I'm simply interested to see what people say. It makes no difference to me. If I find I don't like it I'll chalk it off as a bad purchase and move on. It's happened before and I'm sure it will happen again.

As I've said I like the look of it so I've bought it. Try to understand :)

I stopped defending game purchases about 25 years ago lol I'm too old for that nonsense now.

Well, Monolith took Arkham's combat and as has Mad Max it seems so, why not?

Because the Nemesis system is still new. Other devs haven't had a chance to experiment properly with it yet (assuming they're interested in doing so). Arkham's combat is old at this point, and itself, seems to take cues from the even older Assassin's Creed series?

What I'm trying to say is that it seems that people think these games (Shadow of Mordor and Mad Max) are coming from the same studio because they're all being published by the same company, and should somehow automatically share features.

That's because he isn't supposed to look like tom hardy

He's meant to look like generic white middle-aged videogame protagonist #6201. AKA Ethan from Heavy Rain.

I haven't made a comment about not caring for reviews in this thread, but the reason why I'm here is because I'm expecting gaffer impressions. They are a billion times more invaluable.

He wasn't designed to be the exact likeness of any Max because this isn't a movie game, it's a game based on the franchise.

He looks closer to Mel Gibson in the first Mad Max movies than Hardy.

My favourite game of all time received 6's and 7's. I don't need validation, I'm an adult I can enjoy what I enjoy without having to justify it. Nothing superior about it just didn't understand why reviews are taken so personally.

But I've been put in my place.

Hmmm....let's see when the bigger reviews hit. I was hoping for this to turn out to be good so I could pick it up for cheap during a lull next year.

Well, Canada post came through and it looks like I'll be getting my copy today before the embargo even drops. That's fine, i'll make up my own mind

That counts shovelware. 70 for a triple AAA game like this is disappointing.
Since when was AAA such a signifier of quality?

LOL why are y'all so mad? 😂 Has there EVER been a good game based on a movie? I saw these bad reviews coming a mile away.
The bad definitely outnumber the good by a large amount, but there have been plenty of good games based on films.
The Thing (can't remember what I played it on)
The Warriors (Ps2)
Batman (NES)
Goldeneye (N64)
Spiderman 2 (PS2)
Aladdin (both SNES and Megadrive versions)
The Lion King (again, 16-bit consoles)
Alien 3 (16-bit)

As a microcosm of the good to bad ratio, even within Star Wars games you have the Super Star Wars trilogy on SNES which is based on the films, and then Rogue Squadron, KOTOR, X-Wing etc if you expand out from them.

Me too and I find gaming ,,journalism'' highly dubious and inferior, however, reviews are still a crude indicator of what's to come especially if you haven't been sold on the thing yet (otherwise I also just buy them blindly).
At this point, I just find that questioning reviews once an anticipated game doesn't score amazingly is just redundant and cliched. I don't think I've ever seen gaming sites criticised when high scores come in (only in hindsight discussions about overratings happen), so apparently these reviews still seem to be good enough as long as they please expectations, at least for the majority, which then suddenly finds their self-dependency only after two sites give average scores to another title they wanted to like.

I will get Mad Max sometime next year in the summer drought when its like £15-£20, Tuesday belongs to Metal Gear for me. I can't wait for Avalanches Just Cause 3 at the end of the year though that's a Day One purchase, In fact I've already got it Pre-Ordered
:p

This has been quite the thread already, and the embargo isn't even up yet!

lol yeah...but I am guessing an average of around 7.5 I guess...like many said, the big minus is the release date...and as for looking like Gibson or Hardy, didnt they say many times that this is not based on the new movie, like story and chronologically at all...obviously its based on the Universe but not a direct movie game...

It's already that price if you look around.

I have a friend who looks like Ethan from Heavy Rain. Do you think he'd be happy if I told him he looked generic

If you have another friend that looks like Alan Wake, you could break the news to them together.

I got grudge sucked!
So according to this thread I should be playing this Wolverine game. Right?

I dunno. Wolverine didn't score much better than people here are predicting MM to score. but then it became a last gen cult classic. so you can get Wolverine now and wait for the underrated PS4/XB1 games thread in 2017 to get MM.

The first step is denial my friend, I did the same thing when colonial marines reviews came out (this is obviously a much better game) but when people tell you a game isn't what you'd hoped it would be it kinda sucks.

To be honest, the game is ending up with scores that I expected for it, and that doesn't necessarily mean that I still won't get it.

I like the way the GameTrailers crew puts it: some games are "solid 7s", and even though they're 7's, they're still enjoyable and someone can certainly find something about it that makes it enjoyable for them. Will I pick it up for full price? Likely not. Does this mean I would never pick up this game? No.

I've seen enough that makes me interested and I will eventually buy this game. It is what it is.

I do wish the market was big enough to sustain a certain category of games that have a couple of things going for them but are rough around the edges. Same way that really good acting or directing can be enough to warrant a movie ticket.
