Tokyo Xanadu |Import OT| - Can You Xanadu?

Great OT, Parakeetman.

I would like to know if this title has VA in all parts or just only in the story bits ? For me, hearing is much, much easier than reading.

I will probably get this when they localize or, if there is no localization announcement, after quite a while. Really wanted to play this ASAP, but short on funds =(

Thanks, for the most part the story bits are voiced, but other smaller events and some of the "Kizuna Events" are not voiced. So while not 50/50 Id say just consider it to be like that with the voice to non-voice ratio.

------

While I usually dont like to compare titles and such, one thing that I can say is I think those who played the later Persona series and enjoyed the parts about running around the town and such, should enjoy that aspect in this game during the "adventure" parts. Would be the easiest example to give folks. Am also pretty impressed with while the areas are not super large, the work they did with the town sections. Quite happy with that.

I've put in 2hrs and completed chapter 1 and this game is basically sen no kiseki with action combat. Really enjoying it so far though I am wondering how the skill system will expand seeing as all we have right now is a ranged attack and a melee attack.

A quick glance at the trophy list shows that all the usual ones are there, collecting books, recipes and notes. I'm betting another 80+ hrs to platinum.

Also seeing the other Falcom games/merch in the book store was funny. I recognised the OST in store instantly.

Thanks!

With the characters the whole who you decide to use stuff I suppose is based off of their element and attack type since it comes into play when fighting certain enemy types. The whole different bonuses you get when defeating enemies. All of that stuff is explained in the first tutorial dungeon you do. To put it short the type of kill you do effects the item multiplier for what the enemy drops. Granted it does not seem like too big of a deal yet.

Thanks for the explanation. Seems interesting enough... Considering you always have 2 characters (from what I understand at least), it shouldn't be a problem to me.

One last question about the game, but the overall character/story/world building, is it closer to Kiseki or Ys? (talking in terms of quality, not style).

Personally Id say its closer to Kiseki.

Yeah the whole system since you have a partner you can switch to should not be much of an issue. Id imagine with equipped accessories also you can make up for some of the resisted damage too with incorrect damage types and whatnots.

One thing that am sure folks will appreciate on occasion including myself as working adults is the game also allows for quick travel with the square button that also shows where the next "important" location is. So for those times when you do not want to spend running around the maps yourself, you can just use the quick travel menu to get around. Do appreciate that it allows for both.

Nice! Thanks for the info.

And yeah, if the damage type influences as much as it was in Ys MoC it's not a big deal really.

But nice to know that the story is closer to Kiseki with gameplay closer to Ys. That's the best outcome imo =X

Im looking forward to getting all the playable characters since want to see which of their movesets matches my own play style.

Am curious too if there will be any items / accessories that will increase the dodge range for your character. Do hope so.

Usually an easy way to see that is to see if the dodge has invincibility frames. Those rarely get an upgraded version (although it's not really unprecedented).

But yeah, the enemies and attacks from what I've seen are much bigger than normal Ys games, it's kinda odd for the roll to not be longer too... And apparently there's no block either.

Teach me about these discount codes. I need to go to Geo more often.
1. Get the Geo app. It's far from great and daily login bonuses are not worth it, but sometimes there's a few hundred yen coupon on new/used games.
2. If you buy a used games and return it in a week because of problems, you'll get a 500 yen discount coupon.

With how many elements there are and with how much the elemental kill bonuses affect the final score, I'm afraid that we'll be forced to use characters of certain elements for most encounters. :/

yeah there is no block looked at the key config last night. so its either watch the enemy to see the attack patterns first or trial and error it while in combat with the dodging.

Yeah there is that too. Though will have to see how things go with how this games free combat works with repeatable dungeons and whatnots.

I'll just sit here refreshing the PS store all day.

At least you wont have to do something like use your mobile phone as a hotspot to download the game. Ive done that before. Worst idea ever, but it worked lol. By the time it finished though lunch break was basically over.

Think the updates start from around 10am and finish before noon.

Just found one hour of footage (presumably the first hour of the game) from a random Youtube channel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1XqH9c49lQ

idk if I'll watch it or not. It's not like I'm going to understand the story, but at the same time I don't want to keep watching everything about the game before I can play it like I did with Xenoblade X.

Ugh >.>

Oh well, I'll at least leave the link there in case anyone wants it.

Yeah this is the start of the game ending with the first actual dungeon that you are able to fight in which acts as the tutorial for the player to the general mechanics of the game.

Thanks for that will be adding it to the media section! On this side Ive stopped recording things for the time being as the current PC is on its last legs and am pretty much out of HD space for the drive that stores the footage.

Good OT as always and I await the reveal that
the idol group is trying to take over Tokyo with song.

At least this looks like Richard Garriott wont be suing Falcom over this game. :D

Yeah I had totally forgot YNNK comes out this week also. For some reason though it was the 10th. D: Start of the month is killer on the budget, considering have rent to pay also haha

Thanks! Would not be surprised if some early impressions show up tonight by other members that might have gotten the game early.

What?

Ahahahaha. Awwwwwkwaaaaaaaaaaaaard!

I only ever got the vita TV streaming stuff going once, and it was after a day of deleting and reinstalling nonstop and it just kinda randomly worked.

Man that sucks. D: Wonder why that is... Its too bad I cant be of more help as the system that I use granted I dont stream is an AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.

Thanks, yeah real weird situation with that. lol. Had no idea it even happened till started looking up history of the series as am not as well versed as the more devout Falcom fans here.

The serious answer is its pretty much pointless to go picking it up at the store anyways regardless depending on location and / or work schedule. That and can get it for a fair amount cheaper too on occasion. Though cost is rather low on the list of concerns. Its just nicer knowing have a set general schedule that something will be where I need it when specified. Rather than going out of my way depending on location to pick it up myself let alone do the initial reservation in store.

With that being said, now I have 2 LEs. Wonderful. Will go sell the other one. Heard that these things are pretty limited in quantity apparently, since the popularity exploded right after TGS due to the highly positive reception of what was shown.
I'm interested if it's still up for grabs, by the way.

I find it to be somewhat unpredictable. The 2.3GB or so game took about 30 minutes to DL. The 76MB patch took 5 minutes...

I still cant figure out why my PSVTV the wireless feature isnt working anymore. D: Might just have to go wired with i t, as still have not downloaded the day 1 patch for the game thanks to that (`・ω・Ⅲ) wouldnt have know either if it was not for Hasemo mentioning it in his post lol

Though one issue my vita does have with PSN is how it constantly says some sort of connection error occurred with PSN so i need to go back out / in of screens to get it working again. No idea whats up with that. :/

Wat? Around where? After the 2nd dungeon?

Had just cleared the 2nd dungeon and
am in the school again atm.
At least know we know that saving often will be a must with this title if others start to report similar incidents. So far on this side no issues, but will be more vigilant with making sure I save at regular intervals.

During the card cutscene when leaving school during free time. Second time it went through without any problems.

Hmm ok Ill see if anything happens with mine around then.

2nd Boss Battle footage, spoilers obviously for those who want to keep things fresh.

Got hit once due to being an idiot lol. Not like it matters since thankfully it does not seem like we get graded on the boss battles unlike the dungeon clearing sections.

So far Hard mode isnt all that bad, but this is still early in the game so will see how it goes later on.

Based Parakeetman holdin it down with these Import OT's!!!!!

Nice OT ya have here. Been looking foward to this game so I'll be glued to this thread for impressions.

At the moment the LE is spoken for unfortunately.

Overall the title seems to be pretty good with the combat and such. Switching back and forth between the characters is what is expected from a Falcom title and works well. One thing though is I dont really like how the lock on system works. Need to look and see if I can change the buttons. As Id change switch to L1 and lock on to Triangle if possible, though doubt I can do that.

Made it to the third dungeon and now have
Sora
in my party. Fun character to use as expected.

Music in the dungeons is good too.

Also yeah these dungeons so far do not seem randomized. Granted only been to 3 so far, but all of these are preset. Even when you repeat them.

If you like free stuff, don't forget to grab the 2 pieces of free DLC from the PS Store.

Oh god, I'm watching all the footage =X

I need to stop.

Tokyo Xanadu - PS Vita TV - 3rd Dungeon Gameplay Footage - Spoilers Obviously

Not so much plot, just more who you get to use in the 3rd Dungeon.
Sora
From what I've been seeing (and seeing only D=), it seems that the boss battles are worse than Ys, but the normal enemy battles are better.

Seems pretty fun.

Although it's weird that the dungeons haven't shown any of the platforming, traps, and whatnot yet.

Maybe there are "side" dungeons that use them instead? Or maybe you're just in the beginning of the game still...

its still early on considering that was just the third dungeon. game is still introducing new mechanics to the player too as you may have seen with that clip of the 3rd dungeon. length in general is not too long either, so will have to see how things go from the mid point of the game.

third boss puts up a better fight than the previous two though. so hopefully the game will continue with the difficulty increase as the player progresses. am playing on hard currently, though i think for someone who wants more of a challenge should go straight to nightmare from the start. as if you set the game to hard and didnt tell someone am sure they wouldnt notice.

Hmm, guess so.

I'm thinking in terms of Ys here, so 3rd dungeon would already be a little into the game.

I guess it explains why the dungeons are made with tilesets if they have a lot.

I'm gonna try to stop watching the footage here
(lol, no I won't)
, but I'll try to watch some mid game stuff in some days. Maybe grab a random dungeon and see how different people get through it on Youtube or something, idk...

And yeah, I always planned to start it on nightmare =P

Do people usually write translation guides for Japanese releases?

Anyone here playing this but speaks English only?

Not really. It depends more on the game / fanbase. Unless you are actually tracking those there is no real way to know if folks do guides or not.

Played for a few hours before I had to go to bed last night.
Think I made it partway through chapter two. Finished the second dungeon at least.
So far I think it is pretty fun, but I am not really too big on the character switching. I wish the other characters were fighting with you, it is kind of lonely other wise.

My copy got intercepted by customs. That will teach me to go digital only/first.

How is the writing of the game? I found Nayuta's dialogues rather bland and as a result too wordy. It couldn't compel me into actually caring about the world and Nayuta's case, and ended up mashing through the dialogues to get back to my favourite bits. I also couldn't care for any of the sidequests. How does Tokyo Xanadu compare in that regard?

I'm sure people aren't insane enough to work on a guide for this considering there's a high chance that we may actually get this here. The most you'll see is maybe some menu and item translations unless it becomes known that no one wants to pick it up for localization.

Cleared chapter 2, first batch of subquests in ch3 and did the first free dungeon.

Free dungeons seem to be regular dungeons with ranks, but without big bosses in the end unlike the story dungeons. Free dungeons don't seem to be random if anyone's wondering.

It's important to know, that doing a (new?) free dungeon during free time recovers one point required to socialize with important characters.

So far I'm enjoying the game, although to be honest I'd prefer a bit more action to the talking, since so far it's closer to Kiseki games than to Ys in that regard.
I'm also a bit worried what will happen when I'll get more characters - can we have more than one support character whom we can change to by pressing right? I'm already pressing the wrong switch button sometimes in rooms full of enemies of different types, trying to get the most elemental kills, so I wonder if it's going to get more hectic.

What difficulty are you playing?

Parakeetman

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
How is the move set, is it one button for melee, one button for range, one for jump and one button to dodge or is it more complex?

Circle is for standard attacks.

Square is for ranged while on the ground.

Jump + Square = Aerial dash attack

Holding down Square = Charge attack.

X = Jump

Triangle = Switch Partner

The aerial and charge attack you learn from story progression. Pretty early on in the game so its not like you have to wait long to gain access to those skills.

Normal. Akiba's Trip was a good lesson of not starting games on hard when I don't know what to expect.

Seeing how "Hard" mode is, Normal must be a total roflstomp. Since Hard feels more like Normal mode lol wtf.

Hard is pretty easy for now at least. Maybe I should have chosen Nightmare but oh well. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Still only on last part of chapter 2 though. Voice acting frequency feels like 15-20% of all text so far for those who wonder.

Yeah the VA stuff is pretty much just the main story bits + voice messages on the phone it seems, after that it goes into text for a lot of the sub quests and other non-major events.
