On foot exploration feels like how the game is designed to be played. The Skells are just a neat way to unlock more areas.

It really does feel that way so far, at least with all the locations I've been to. Your character feels like they have weight, the run speed is fantastic, the jump is magnificent and can even be adjusted mid-air. I can really tell that a lot of work went into the on foot controls.

Thank you for taking gorgeous hudless shots WHILE NOT BEING <OFFLINE> :p

Thanks man, it's one of the things I always try to keep in mind. The instant I get the "Disconnected" message, screenshots are a no go.

Somehow Yelv is my second highest leveled ally tied with Hope, just behind Elma, at level 24.
I also started his second mission, we'll see how it turns out tomorrow.
And screw Oblivia and its stupid big pit. I've died twice to that with my skell.

Man, I have not had this sense of accomplishment in a game since bloodborne and I can't even remember before that. That feeling when you give mechs to your party and as you roll across the plains and then transform as a team, dang. It just felt good.

Miiverse pic of the new mechs in the background in the barracks

Mine is the one on the left, Elma's is the middle, and Lin is the last on the right

First things I did was go to primodia, noctilum and oblivia and try to go to the probe points I couldn't get to last time. I got a couple. I also had to back off a few as well since they were crawling with level 50+ enemies and tyrants that have high level enemy entourages lol. I'm surprised at the stuff that were easy to get to but I missed anyway. Its weird.

I also did Frye's mission to unlock him as a party member. First time to Syvalum. Even on an alien planet, it is seriously the MOST alien looking region. It just looks weird, in a good way of course lol. And the music for it is really good.

I think I've done the vast majority of the quests in the game now. Just missing about half of the casts affinity missions and I'll be done. Going to put that off until later, I have a few games that I would never get to if I keep playing this game. :lol it's that fun.

Wolfenstein The Old Blood
Fallout 4 - midway through this one
Soma

Then back to XCX.

I seem to have lost the quest that gets my mechanical skill up to Level 5. It isn't in the Concourse or in my mission menu. Anyone know how I can get it back or am I screwed?

Yeah, his character's appearance / mannerisms kinda got a side-eye for me... on one hand it's cool that there's a diversity of characters, but he appears to be the only gay-coded one and seems like an old-fashioned stereotype.

Though I did find it funny that you'll hear a random male NPC fretting over not going out with him when he was asked out.

Also, props to the translation / voice-acting team for striking a balance between keeping (what I assume to be) the original character's mannerisms and speech without pushing it over the top - I was surprised
when you finally hear Lara Nara's voice actor in HB's affinity mission that they'd chosen someone with a distinct voice who nevertheless didn't go for the stereotypical speech pattern indicated by the dialogue.

The localisation does seem to have done its best to translate it relatively tastefully, but there's only so much they could do. I wasn't particularly surprised with him, given how popular similar stock characters are even in modern Japanese media; (at least Lara is portrayed relatively sympathetically and doesn't sexually harass/assault anyone) but it is a little tiresome that the only time they'd even consider LGBT characters is through one-off jokes or 'quirky' stereotypes. Of course, expecting anything else would be foolish, but that doesn't mean I can't whine about a game that doesn't check enough boxes on the Standardised Western Liberal Diversity Checklist.

If this is for the Archaeological Off the Record, he actually only appears in the Early Morning, between 5 AM and 6:59 AM, not regular morning - he should be right there if you fast travel to the park.

So I gave chapter 12 a shot and
the fight was going super smoothly, got the boss to 10% and he gets a shield. Apparently I have to kill a particular orb, identical looking to however the fuck many there are. While I'm doing that he's regaining health. Whatever it was easy the first time, I'll do it again. Difference is now there are even more orbs on screen and he's purple now doing crazy shit.

smh

You should just
aim for the orb in the middle of the platform

In chapter 5
FUCK the fierce vigent. My whole party is at lvl 21 or higher. Still wrecks me with that splash attack. Any tips?

I think it's kinda funny how you can 'sneak' around enemies in skells. As long as you don't get too close and/or right in front of them, you can be jumping around from left to right and you won't get spotted. Especially funny around the enemy camps where they are standing around and guarding the area.

At least in that case, it's probably justifiable for the same reason enemies at a much lower level to you tend to ignore you - they obviously notice the giant robot, but they know it's in their best interest to pretend they don't.

Finally finished off the blood lobster quest.
I tore the final battle to pieces. Yeah I guess Mighty Glaive: Galaxy Chief (high attack stat and gravity element vs. a mech...ouch) and mechanoid slayer XX would do that (also battle probes). In the area that is set in I did some exploring and got party wiped against a level 60 tyrant and their group in there. Dual guns and longsword is such a glass cannon or maybe I just got arrogant.

Just so I understand correctly, the Division Support Effect doesn't actually affect my player character or party, right? Its only meant to buff other online players who I group with?
Yes other players who have scouted your bonus or are in the same region as you. When you get a bonus from another player (it is completely random in-battle) it will appear as a buff where all the other buff icons are (the symbol is the division icon and there appear to multiple levels too) which makes me think only the lead party member gets it.

Why would you cancel off the record? That aside opening and closing the concourse menu to refresh the list should eventually bring it back. Try to clear a few basic missions too (especially social ones).

.

But Dual Guns are the tankiest, 99% of things can't hit you, the other 1% being weather and extremely specific things. Be sure to overdrive so you can refresh ghostwalker over and over!

I think this is the most fun I've had playing a game this year. 45 hours in. I have 3 skells now and just doing some quests and exploring before beginning chapter 7.

For some reason the sound, graphics and animation all start to feel like they get better the more hours I put into it. Overall I'd describe the first 30 hours or so as abrasive, but it gets more smooth the more I play. 45 hours in and I'm walking around just the barracks looking at the graphics amazed. When I first started the game I guess my senses were just overloaded by all the weird crap (the sound, music, graphics, characters, dialog, it's all crazy coming from xenoblade on wii) in the game and I think I'm just getting used to it and now really starting to appreciate what it's doing.

I was getting used to traveling by foot and everything felt weird about the game after getting the skell. I can say I'm loving the skells now after getting a good feel. I don't want to go back and read the big thread but thanks to whoever posted about the L button being reverse. It's helped me a lot.

It really feels like the original Phantasy Star games to me. I'm really liking Mira.

As much as I enjoyed going around on foot hoofing it to find stuff, now that I have my Skell it feels kinda pointless to still run. I feel like the game got so much easier (and simpler) overall. I know that fights will get tougher of course but yeah, kinda underwhelmed now that I can just quickly fly to wherever. Too hard to resist not jumping in them and going.

Just wait until you're going into non-skell areas and you get rekt

Yeah that already happened for me at the end of
Chapter 9. That was a really shitty fight that I was NOT prepared for. Once I got back into my Skell it was okay but having to fight those 4 or 5 mobs along with the 2 main guys on ground was a nightmare.

That was a good eye opener for me in that I can't let my ground-based game fall by the wayside.

Best to give it to a companion or sell and buy a new one. The repair cost is the same amount as what you can get for selling it so better to buy a new one to get 3 insurance back.

Just be sure to remove any gear you bought for it that you wanna hang onto.
the Skell with 0 insurance is on a companion, when it gets destroyed I need to use a ticket or pay to get it back.

guess I'll just sell it and buy it again, I have money to spare anyway.

Side quests exist only to give you slight boosts in XP and Affinity. Nothing more.
Affinity Quests and Missions are better uses of your time.
But you should still have a bunch of gather quests anyway since you'll likely complete them along the way.
yeah I know, just getting frustrated. a lot of normal missions too have some random "oh right I need these materials go get 'em" which is so forced into the mission for no good reason that I have no clue how the devs at Monolith Soft still can't understand that it's just annoying crap for most if not all the players. even after they did the same thing with Xenoblade. (which yes, was far worse in that regard)
I want to complete those missions because some of them have some really nice (or grim, when everyone dies lol) side-stories.

The grind for Ares 90 begins. It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Just need like 1000 more tickets for everything and then finish killing some stuff for the easy items.

Hey buddy, remember how much pain you gave me when I was just a wee level 18 trying to take you down?

Yeah come and get it now
I still have to go back and fuck up Oskar. That ass has a thing or two coming to him.

So you can potentially fall down a hole killing yourself... Well... Too bad I discovered this jumping down with 3 skells.
Yeah that's really disappointing, as far as I know it's the only area where you can die by going out of bounds. Missed opportunity to have something cool and/or creepy at the bottom.

Just stated playing dress-up with my characters since I just started bothering with fashion gear. I like my creations so far, especially with my current main Celica. Gonna try something for smug HB next.

good spot for Seidr control devices?

and Crude Neilnail mask?

Seidr Control Devices from Seidrs around FN505 in the air near the spires. Try breaking the head. Crude Neilnail Masks from Neilnails in their time attack mission. Better off using reward tickets for that one.

love Mia's level up quip, gonna be sad when she's maxed

I've already forgotten it. Don't want to start her affinity mission, or it'll really all be over...

"Hey Mia, what do you use for your hair? It's always so shiny and stuff!" "Manon oil shampoo! All the girls in the city are hooked!"

Got my Skellenton.

... Now how do I use this thing? Where do I refill fuel? What's it for? What should I do first? Should I buy weapons for each available, or just save money and buy a new Skell? When should I buy Skells for the rest of the team?

I KNOW NOTHING.

I KNOW NOTHING.
The terminal near the kitchen and on the way to the Network terminal in your barracks has a Skell hangar menu you can do general management in. This is where you refuel, repair, assign Skells and stuff. Just dick around a bit in it, it's fairly intuitive.
I haven't ever worried about fuel with my Skells so far.
It was an issue for Light Type Skells for me but once I went heavy and got some arts that stagger to bind enemies it became a non-issue. Well, at least until I got the Ares 90 and kinda overused that one art that uses 2000 fuel, lol. But at that point you have so much Miranium it's not an issue either.
