NPD Sales Results for December 2015 [Up1: Super Mario Maker]

Seriously why do people expect Bloodborne to be a massive seller?
Dark Souls II was #57 in the UK in 2014, and it was released on 3 platforms with a huge total install base compared to the PS4.

Because SoulsBorne has a much much much stronger ratio of fans here than in reality, so the fanbase at times tend to think the games are much larger than they really are. Not that they aren't successful mind you

Monthly Active Users - MS said they're moving towards MAU numbers as opposed to Hardware numbers for their metric of success

You know what is "interesting" about that? Hasn't Microsoft only shared Mau's that one time they made that statement? They didn't even mention them in the December NPD PR, and I believe went with Live Hours or something instead.

I will be interested to see if they mention MAU's in this month's NPD PR.

Where is Halo? :(

Also I'm not surprised to see the that the first 3 games sold more on Xbox, the PS4 bundles were selling like crazy here in Mexico

And wow GTA V and Minecraft are unstoppable!

He probably meant all 3

Just means they all charted 11-30.

But one particular "group" is latching onto 30.

FWIW I don't think it sold all that well just is sad how some people want it to fail

I think people discussing the ROTR numbers aren't wishing for the game to fail (myself included), we just want to know how it sold to reach the more than 1 million copies figure.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Sure, but when we first combined the SKUs, they were still charting. Halo 4 there, as mentioned, was #3 in a combined SKU chart.

After Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed though, the other third parties went all in on making mega hits as well, and eventually crowded them out.

Not saying that they weren't charting at all, just that, due to the setup the all-included charts are based of, exclusives suffer, it's very difficult for them to appear unless they sell bombastic amounts. There can be exclusives selling 1 million for a specific year, and still not appearing in these charts. High numbers, but not hgh enough to be in that top 10.

It also doesn't help that much that Sony and MS seems to have reduced their first party output for the first two years - Sony should be on the upswing next year - while Nintendo had a lesser year, release-wise - in terms of relevance, I mean

The PAL charts numbers doesn't point to that. TR desperately needs the US sales to reach 1 million.

There are tons of PAL charts, debuting at 5th in each one adds up, Europe loves TR so the game probably had an unusually high attache rate there.

I feel like the lack of digital numbers problem is becoming more and more glaring each year. Personally, I haven't contributed to any metric visible to the public all generation (except hardware of course).

Batman and Witcher 3 both failed to chart in the Top10 for the year. Let that sink in for a moment.

I doubt any exclusives have the legs to break into Top10.

December 2014: 810,000 3DS + 150,000 Vita = 960,000 tot.

3DS+Vita should be around 650k combined.

Didn't remeber Vita was that "high" in December 2015. What happened? A firesale of Vita TVs?

Digital is a growing number no doubt, and NPD is not the full picture, but Retail software sales are still the majority and also huge

So you think it's normal that Forza Horizon 2 which was released back in 2014 on Xone and X360 sold better than Bloodborne which came in 2015 on PS4? Sony announced 2 million sales for Bloodborne months ago. That's not small.

360+PS3+Wii did 510k December 2014. Combined they did 148k this December.

PS4+XB1+WIU did 2949k December 2014. They did 3067k this December.

Waiting for pies.

For reference:

NPD December 2007
NDS: 2,470,000
Wii: 1,350,000
360: 1,260,000
PS2: 1,100,000
PSP: 1,060,000
PS3: 797,600

PS3 + Wii + 360 = 3407k

NPD December 2008
NDS - 3.04 million (+23%)
Wii - 2.15 million (+59%)
360 - 1.44 million (+14%)
PSP - 1.02 million (-3%)
PS3 - 726,000 (-8.9%)
PS2 - 410,000 (-62%)

PS3 + Wii + 360 = 4316k

Not all but some are. Was the same last month. It's pretty obvious. Same with the Halo 5 sales.

Quite a shame as its a good game.

Hopefully there will be enough PC sales and PS4 sales to justify continuing the reboot. They have been fantastic

I mean, we've known for a while that Nintendo were just going to have to suck this holiday season up, but geez.
Missing the top 10, which are all combined SKUs doesn't mean games performed horribly.

Wii U and 3DS are usually noted to be in relatively top positions, if SKUs were individual.

UK is the biggest market for Forza, it does pretty well there every year. So yes, it's not a big surprise.
