does it count as cheating in the witness if i look up a guide for solutions of puzzles i've already cleared since i don't want to backtrack all the way there to remember how those puzzles worked?

You can certainly ignore this advice, but as someone who played both Mafia and Mafia II last year I would highly recommend skipping the first game. It doesn't hold up very well given that so many open world games have come out since that time. First of all, outside of I believe 2 missions, the driving in the game has no purpose whatsoever. You drive to a mission and get a checkpoint. There are no side activities to do in the city, so all the driving does is artificially extend the playtime. The shooting is also extremely dated and makes the missions pretty frustrating. I honestly consider this one of the worst games I've ever played - maybe if I had played it on release my opinion would be different, but games don't exist in a vacuum.

Mafia II is still worth playing at least. The driving is still not all that important but there are a couple of side activities and the driving model is a lot more fun. The beginning of the game takes place in winter and they actually modeled snow driving in the city pretty well. You also get a more modern cover shooting mechanic.

There is one reference to the first game in Mafia II but if you watch the end cinematic from Mafia you'll understand it when it happens.
even as someone that likes mafia 1, i feel like this is probably accurate

I wrote out rules for each area/puzzle type as I went along, crossing out and re-writing them if I mistook a lesson the puzzles were trying to teach me before. I think having some sort of guide for yourself to reference when coming across a puzzle element you haven't seen in a while is perfectly fine, and I'm sure there's pages online which do just that, if you don't want to go back and write them out yourself~

Emergent Focus, the replacment sniper being trained to become a undercover operative is securing all kinds of hits
and kills
but I expect things to look better for our in-house sniper; Avictim Ofstars
not the final name
since he just got squad-sight.

Winter Demons
whom I wanted to make a sniper but sadly I only got males
is quickly recovering in the infirmary, again. It was bound to happen due to her devil-may-care attitude but she's an invaluable asset to the cause and I'm sure that she has a lot more to give.

Fresh Veggie is our field medic, always there to make sure the sittuation is under control and when he decides to picks up a gun the bodies start to drop.

Seven Swords is undergoing surgery, we're gonna give him a couple of days to get used to his new body and then we'll put him on the field asap.

Bayo Nito is... being somewhat of a problem. We'll have him checked out while there's no assignments but he seems to be having trouble aiming his weapon. Nothing that can't be solved with some more live action experience.

So far there has been no need for replacements or the back up squad, still unsure what I'll do with the extra slot once Focus finishes his training.

I'll post a group photo once the gang is back together and at their best. For now we're going back in.

No. Like I say, use every shortcut you need if you've already completed it.

Me? I just use a walkthrough the whole time.

There is no best controller and if there was it would be a Frankenstein creation of about 10 different pads over the years. Even then lots of elements come down to preference.

Actually this has given me an idea on something I was planning on doing anyways but let's have a show of hands and try something simple. What is your favourite dpad ever? Hopefully we'll get a list of 10 different ones and we'll go from there.

Dualshock 2/4
(disclaimer - I have never owned a Nintendo console, not counting Russian knock-offs of NES)

Out of the ones I've tried I'm quite partial to the Sega Saturn controller d-pad.

Do you have a setup.exe in your rambo folder?

Nope. The launcher booted straight into the game. Try installing the redists; it's possible that the launcher detects you're missing something and is trying to run an installer that doesn't exist.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
Love my Steam controller. It makes comfy couch PC gaming excellent. Anything and everything works with it. I shelved my X360 controller the moment it arrived.

Just finished Daganronpa first act. I hope the game ramps up. The first act was fun but slow, understandably.

imgur is an alright place to host the imgs for an OT?

Yup. I saw many OTs using imgur.
Talking about Imgur, do any of you have accounts on there, or are you just straight uploading on there like I do?

Also, I can't figure out Flickr and how to use images on forums.

Thanks for the OT Prinny!

I've never played any of the mafia games, but your impressions are making me very interested in picking them soon!
What are you waiting for? Get going and install Mafia 1!
