Went with a Sean-inspired Kodiak Cakes Power cakes stack with PB and bananas for post-workout. Wife urging me to save some calories for movie night.

All you guys talking about looking small is why I lost my motivation. I went from people saying,"dude you are big!" To, "you should eat more." While I knew it wasn't true, that combined with watching my lift numbers decline slightly just made me go back to hitting bigger lift numbers and enjoying the bulk more. This time though, I'm committed to the aesthetic goal even if it means all of that. Hard though.

FitGAF, I used to post here but it's been awhile. Work got ahold of me and I lost time to post and honestly, stopped watching my diet as well. Luckily it was winter and I got stronger, but now I'm really trying to cut - brutally.

This August will be my 30th birthday and I want to have a 6 pack (or as close I can get genetically) by then. Honestly, and this is kind of sad for me, I've never really been skinny enough to get there before. I've gotten close, but I was a fat kid, then got my self in shape 4 years ago, but I've never been truly "cut." Always carried a little too much fat around still.

The last 2 weeks I've been cutting hardcore and have been really diligent. It's really tough for me though, because right now I'm at about 1700 calories a day (6'1 210). I feel like it should be higher, but I'm tracking everything (I mean everything) and I'm losing about 2lbs a week at this rate. I think I'm going to have to keep cutting like this until the end of May or so.

So anyway, I'm posting here to keep myself motivated. I don't really talk about it in person with a lot of people. I'm not one to try to brag/complain about stuff like this with the people in my life and I don't have a lot of friends that are into fitness. Thought it'd be good to jump back in with you guys.

Thanks!

Hey, dude, welcome back.

It's been a while. I remember that you did Olympic lifting. And for some reason, I also recall that you commented you did it in the buff. :p

Haha I do Olympic lifting yes. I was joking about the nude lifting, but hey, never say never.

The reason why maintaining with a large cheat day or two is so satisfying is because you get the best of both worlds. The next couple days after you swell up with some size and get stronger but by 3 or 4 days later you're fairly lean and the bloat is gone. Just a little motivation to work hard and get to where you want to be.:)

I had 5 big pieces of pizza and gelato yesterday and my weight didn't budge. But I admit I went into that dinner with 1300 calories still available. Today my dad wants to go to Cracker Barrel for his birthday. Haven't eaten there in years and I don't think I like it there. Not sure what I'll get.

Tomato status?

They have a grilled chicken with veggies side dish that's fine and probably has 800 or so calories.

Also, not tomato, but damn close!

Yeah I was just looking they have quite a few healthier fish and chicken options.

Might do that or just go eggs, bacon, oatmeal

What have you done to me Mkenyon? Ever since I bought the PB&Co white chocolate I haven't had regular peanut butter.

Did you see the ice cream he posted a page or two back??? I feel like he's trying to fatten us out of his own competition...
The thing about the white chocolate PB is it's not much different than natural PB. A few more gs of sugar and some palm oil. I'm good on ice cream Häagen-Dazs has me covered.

Had a few days off, just went and burst through my OHP barrier :D (Not gonna say the weight as it's fucking embarrassing)

Absolutely killed the rest of.my workout too. Can't believe how much motivation the OHP gave me. Weight is very slowly climbing up to so good day overall.

Been at it for the last 4 months, and after some back pain two weeks back I reduced my weight down to focus on form, yet again.

So, form check time.

Also I totally wanted to try the 120fps shooting mode on my phone.

Forms perfect bud

Reset went really well today. 285x15 on deadlift. Felt really good but fatigued me (plus I stayed up until 4am playing The Division). Did a couple back off sets too.

Back injury is nothing to play with. I have an enlarged and painful thoracolumbar on my left side from working heavy clutches in drag cars (as street rods because you're young and dumb and don't care how shitty it is to drive them in traffic) and from heavy equipment at the day job. Shit sucks. I can go heavy for about a rep before I cripple over in pain. Most of my squats and deads are lighter in weight because of it but it's all good with more volume.

If I bend over there's a huge hump on my left from it having the shit kicked out of it my whole life. Throws a wrench in a few of my lifts but I go slow and steady. Gotta take it easy with back issues. Your form looks perfect, too. Nice and deep!

One scoop a couple of times per week to make a shake. Nothing crazy.

Half a scoop a couple of times a week doesn't seem like very much...I take it you're getting a lot of protein from other sources?

Usually a 1/2 scoop a day for me. If I cook extra chicken to hit my protein goal then I'll skip the whey. Just calculate by servings to know how long the tub will last for you. Also, what brand you using?

I don't have any protein powder yet, but I was looking at this brand because it's fairly cheap and suits my dietary needs. Have you ever tried it before?

Like others have said, not much. I try to rely on protein from food as much as I can with powder as a sort of last resort.

What kinds of protein are you eating?

Half a desiliter per day mostly so ~20g of my protein. Honestly I find it so easy to get enough protein from normal foods (because you don't need that much) that I hardly need whey anymore. I just use it because it's the easiest way to get something into the system in the morning post workout. Can't be bothered to eat food at that hour.

My daily intake is around 140g as I'm cutting so 120g comes from meat and other sources. I actually find it hard to stay at that number and still eat meat. Tends to go over so easily.

Thank you for the info. Is it safe to entirely rely on protein powder if one isn't getting enough protein from their daily food intake?

Really, anything. I eat chicken almost daily. Beef 2-3 days a week. Fish 3-4 days a week. Pork 1-2. I eat eggs, beans, nuts, cheese, etc as well, almost daily. Without trying, I'm at 1:1 grams per pound easily, which is too much as is

Link?

Is that sold in Canada?

edit

Wal-Mart sells it! I'm gonna get some of that. Natural PB is too difficult to swallow so I can only put it in shakes... :(

I did it before for a bout a year and I made massive strength gains, but it broke me down. Now with what I have in my garage I can do it properly.

What you have in your garage plus everything you've learned over the last few years.

You think this is worth looking into for the rest of us?? I'll read the pdf, but any highlights?

Edit: holy shit this guy's a psycho! Lmao.

Whoa, that's a lot! I think I mainly get my protein from peanut butter and beans.

Well FitGAF this is my first post ever in a fitness thread. Have lurked in a couple of these for a while and I just want to say what an inspiration so many of you have been to me. Finally convinced me to get off my ass in August 2015 and start back working out. Now I've had many stints throughout my life where I have started exercising and only kept it up for about 3 months so results never really lasted. This is easily the longest I've stuck with it and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It's worth mentioning that I have a condition called Pectus Excavatum which causes the left side of my chest to be sunken in compared to my right side. It makes it really hard to make much gains in the chest area and is also the reason I've always been ashamed of taking my shirt off in public. But it's something that I've finally began to get over, hell I even posted my first ever shirtless selfie on facebook the other day, something I've always been terrified of doing. Just wanted to say thanks to you guys, despite not talking directly to any of you, your posts have hand a hand in keeping me motivated to continue pushing forward.

I never really planned to keep working out for as long as I've stuck with it this go around, so I don't exactly have proper progress pics. So I'll just post some shot from back in august 2015 and now and hopefully you can glean how much my body has changed.
Also sorry in advance for the shit quality of some of these pics.

Probably the closest thing I have to a comparison since I'm in the same position in both.

Welcome and you look great. Look forward to seeing you around. Any short-term or long-term goals?

Half a scoop a couple of times a week doesn't seem like very much...I take it you're getting a lot of protein from other sources?

I eat a LOT of eggs (whole), chicken/pork daily with a few slabs of red meat thrown in weekly. LOVE LOVE LOVE PB, almonds, milk (whole), not so big on fish (never had a taste for it), bacon, beans, lots of milk products, etc.

If it has protein, I'll eat it. I tried substituting some to move around some macros and take a single shake daily but I miss food too much. So a few times a week I will make a shake. Now that I have a blender I'll make a monster shake: oats, ice cream, PB, milk, eggs, scoop of powder. GAT DAYUM is it good when you go deep with making a killer shake. I do 1k total calories for my shakes. Down the fucker in like 15 seconds they are so good :D I use those as more of a treat, tho.

So pretty much what Bum says.

Food is usually the best source of everything and if you have a large enough library of recipes tastes good as fuck and never boring, to boot.

I made a summary video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRHo23nO4z8

Bench press: 102.5kg (1.22xBW)
Frontsquat: 130kg (1.55xBW)
Squat: 150kg (1.79xBW)
Deadlift: 180kg (2.14xBW)

Really successful first year of lifting. I'm wondering where I will be after a second year. This year I'm definitely going to participate in 2 powerlifting contests. First one in May and the second one in October. I won't break any records (aside from my owns), but it will be a valuable experience.

Thanks guys! In terms of progress, my chest is definitely an area I want to build a lot. Due to my condition, it's been a slow process but I can see improvements in it from when I first started. I also did the dumb amateur thing and didn't focus on legs enough for the first couple of months so now I need to work on em. My calves have always been an okay size as bigger calves seem to run in my family but if you saw my thighs I pretty much got Popeye's arms for legs. So I did a damn good leg workout the other day that I felt for pretty much the entire week (Had me swearing up a storm whenever I had to take the stairs). Gonna work on em some more today.

Main focus overall is pretty much just to build more muscle, lose more fat and of course up my strength. I'm currently at 171 lbs, and I'm around 5'8". Goal right now is to shoot for 180 lbs and maybe even go up from there.

I read a lot of the 50+ page pdf last night while I put the baby to sleep. Great read. Love his philosophies and will definitely take a few things away...most certainly NOT the whole program.

Dude says that when he tears a muscle...a full on tear...he switches body parts and finishes his workout.

He's got a unique view for sure. He's also been injured a lot, but also very successful. He was one of the first competitors for worlds strongest man, and pro Highland games.
