So I take it that no, you've never lived in the projects. And apparently don't understand how averages work.

I lived in Bronzeville in Chicago for two years. Long before it was gentrified with all the pretty new condos replacing the Robert Taylor Homes. Saw way more CPD cars driving around there than I ever have in the suburbs. Across all the places I've lived, the higher the average income, the less visible the police presence.

And I have a hard time believing an average response time of three minutes for SF, because to hit that average there would have to be a shitton of responses at mere seconds which just isn't happening.

This is why I laugh when people say this is the greatest country in the world this and Alton Sterling within 24 hours ? All around "Independence Day" Man this country ain't shit. It's time for to organise a political platform (what Black Lives Matter should be doing) that can effectively change the laws so shit like this can stop and provide accountability for police officers and other public servants when shit like this happens.

The look on the little girls face when the camera panned on her in the cop car, as she's telling her mom "It's ok, I'm here with you".

No words.

What the fuck. That video is horrifying.

Fucking cops man. So many incompetent thugs getting into the system. Something's gotta give eventually.

Some are saying that FB is censoring this.

I wouldn't be surprised, I don't personally think facebook is the place for this. Not everybody wants to see the death of a man on their wall. As long as the footage migrates off to other platforms and goes viral and people on facebook can link to it I don't see the problem here.

They don't run patrol in the wards. I lived in 3rd ward, I heard gunshots nightly and can count on one hand the number of times police came out. And they actually have incentive to patrol that area, considering UH was within walking distance. But they still didn't.

The area around UH is a notorious shit hole and has been for decades. It's been that way since my mother moved here from Spain in the early 80s. The only thing that changes that kind of patrolling behavior is money, just like what happened in Midtown, which itself was a shithole until gentrification occurred.

I'm not sure what the solution is.

Doubt Facebook is censoring.

More likely it is getting falsely reported by trolls and people who don't want stuff like this to be seen.

Thing is this is the type of stuff that has to be seen because then people can't say "I didn't know."

It's easy to ignore stuff when it "happens to someone else." Not as easy to ignore when it's in your face.

sorry about that maybe we will get gunned down in public elsewhere

Both my mother and father grew up in midtown :(

Who is going to make the change we need to protect civilian lives from these monsters behind a badge? And how?

If it isn't the cops killing us, it's the mentally unhinged. And if it isn't the mentally unhinged, it's the gangs. And if it isn't the gangs, it's the terrorists. And if it isn't the terrorists, it's our own government. When do we, as Americans, finally stand up and say "enough is enough!" to all this senseless violence against us innocent civilians?

I read what's going on in the video. No way I'm gonna watch that.
Fucking hell america, get your shit together.

I usually don't like to point fingers and act like my country is super perfect or anything but at least Austria manages to just be corrupt and stupid without regularly killing people.

But if it was daylight and the brake lights were working, how would they know the tail lights were out? Unless you are saying you think the brake lights weren't working?

And not trying to imply you're downplaying anything. I want the facts too!

Tail lights and brake lights run on completely different fuses. Your tail lights can be out, but your brake lights can still work etc.

Tail lights are usually tied to a relay and only come on with the headlights but it depends on the make and year of the car as far as I remember.

I still believe it was probably bullshit in all honesty.

edit: also it doesn't even have to be about the bulb/light being out. My car was kinda a mess since I was poor and working on it myself, and I got pulled over once because there was a crack in the casing on one side.
I got pulled over a lot because my car stood out....

Have to echo the sentiments about Facebook and say I seriously doubt they're trying to censor this. Judging by Zuckerberg's comments in the past with respect to social movements I can't imagine top brass over there would get rid of this to quiet the situation. Its intial takedown of her page may be a moderator error or some other system glitch.

Only reason I can see this being removed is because of its violent and disturbing nature.

It's unfortunate that the world works this way. 20 years ago you would have never heard anyone recommending you go to midtown, while today it's one of the most popular parts of the city.

I lived there 2 years ago and the extent of our issues were homeless people pissing in the stairwells and the occasional breaking into vehicles.

Hard to criticize Facebook. The video was down for what, a couple hours? All of them after midnight East Coast Time?

Keep poking the black community and expecting us to sit patient while you cull our population and try to placate us with patronizing language. Eventually the apathy will turn into the response you expect instead of the one given.

Not that I want to see it, but did the girlfriend record the actual shooting? It's not on the YT link and I can see the cop trying to spin what happened into not being his fault.,,

Facebook thing is probably a system in place where it automatically deletes things after a certain amount of reports. Twitter has that too.

Gentrification is a disgusting thing, not just for the way it runs people out of their areas, but also because it's disgusting watching the lack of police problem vanish as white people move in.

My grandma lives in the heights. She moved there in the late 60s. Her house is a shotgun house that is ancient and tiny. She used to live in between several other houses. Right now she's smack dab in between two enormous high rise condos.

No, she started recording after he got shot. She was probably afraid for her life and just started streaming it LIVE to Facebook as evidence.

I feel like at some point black citizens in america will have to carry GoPros around all the time, russian dashboard cam style, to expose all that shit. And it probably wouldn't even help

it's illegal to film the police in some states and cities. And police unions are pushing for laws like that to spread.

I'm black and had a busted tail light on my car 2 weeks ago (UK). The last thing going through my mind is getting stopped and shot. Seems the gun problem in the US doesn't only apply to the public. Completely insane that anyone could be killed like this.

That was so heartbreaking.

Even with the Facebook video, I have no doubt they're still going to throw that one under the rug.

No shit they do.

I'm not sure it isn't a money issue more than a race issue. If the entire population of midtown shifted to young, black professionals the result would still be the same imo. More money means more taxes and better government services. More and better services, particularly with regards to security, leads to more stability in the area and more business moving in, and furthers the type of "virtuous" cycle that allows for gentrification.

Is this supposed to be the same situation when supposedely the person shot got out of the car and slapped an off duty cop in the head, got back in the car and got shot?

South Phoenix is such a place. When I was in HS, south Phoenix was a place I totally tried to avoid.even Downtown Phoenix had some shitty areas. Then the city made an initiative to spruce up the streets... Surprise, surprise, now it's bustling with young white millennials walking around in what used to be a near shanty town.

I don't understand (well that at least seems a common thread)

- if it's a carry state and he has a license, then the police should not be surprised if someone has a gun on them, and should be trained how to deal with that situation.

- if you're nervous and trigger happy, why ask for ID if the ID is near a gun and actions could be misconstrued? Surely in that case as soon as you're aware there is a gun, the safest thing to do would be to keep the suspects hands away from there (eg on their head) and get them to exit the vehicle where you can disarm them in a controlled manner.

At this point I expect establishment of civilian-run camera networks that blanket neighborhoods and roads just to ensure documentation.

The gun problem in the public is what escalates the police responses here.

Could someone explain what happens in the video step by step please? As I would rather not watch it.

Thank you

The historical and current normalcy of the casual murder of black and brown people with impunity in America has not and never will be just a "gun problem." You take away the guns and they will just bring the ropes back. White supremacy is a cancer that runs deep in so many aspects of America society, I can't se this bullshit changing without leveling and rebuilding the most egregious institutions. Peaceful protest and respectability politics will never fix this.

Video starts with the shot/bloody boyfriend. The girlfriend explains everything that's going on while the pig cop approaches the drivers window shaking like a little bitch with his voice breaking since he knows he fucked up. Then the woman starts crying when she realizes that her boyfriend is dying/dead

Cops aren't going to run around with nooses in their back pocket. We might end up doing this the way the Brits do it. It would be better.

Save the weapons for situations that actively call for it.
