Bumping this up.

Hi, again. Some of you might have seen some of my previous posts about the Elite controller and while it's a great controller, the build quality (more so of the bumpers) is pretty bad.

I got my first Elite on Oct 27th (release) and that one lasted until December 28th.

I got in contact with Xbox Support, had it all replaced and had a new one by Jan 9th. This one lasted until April 10th. Got in contact with Support again and it was replaced, new one arrived a week or so after.

And here we are on July 18th, three months or so since I got this one and once again, the same issue. The LB button will become very difficult to click in and then it will just fall out.

My third controller right now is in the "difficult to click in" stage so I'll give it another day or two before it completely breaks.

At this point, I don't even want to get it replaced. I've seen posts that newer versions of the controller have better built bumpers but I have no guarantees of actually getting one of those.

Ugh.

My 2 week old controller hasn't had any problems yet, but the LB and RB buttons definitely feel loose...like in a, this-won't-last-a-year kind of way.

Oh well, back to Amazon this goes!

So I got one today. Really enjoying this controller, and it may very well be the best controller ever made. I have a couple of questions. Which sticks and D-pad are the best? Also can I use the paddles with PC games?

I like the default sticks personally, but I would try out all of them just to see what they feel like. It's super easy to swap them in and out. As for the paddles, they definitely work with PC games.

Where'd you buy yours at? I had stick drift on mine so I took to best buy and they exchanged it As a defect because of 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Microsoft Store in Oak Brook, IL. Called and went into the store to tell them about it but said there is nothing they can do since it's beyond 90 days of purchase (11/2015 for me).

I ended up calling Microsoft directly and they agreed to ship me another controller after I sent mine in to them (at my expense for shipping of course). I'm completely done with Xbox after this generation, considering I had to send in my Xbone as well for graphical issues too.

I'd say the parts you use depends on the type of game you are playing. I got the elite mostly for FPS games, and I've found the combination I like best is the standard-height concave for the left stick and the tall concave for the right stick. The tall stick gives me more accuracy with less thumb movement while aiming. The d-pad for the FPS games I play doesn't make much difference. I tend to use the disc because I think it looks cool, but in all honesty I'd say it's a bit less accurate when I use it for quick selections.

Returned my controller on the 6th of June, STILL not received a replacement.

I know it seems like I'm spamming this thread a bit but i'm in absolute shock how bad customer service is from MS for an item that cost £120 and is still in warranty.

Got one of these amazon warehouse and now the damn thing won't do anything with the xbox. It turns it on but does nothing after the fact. Tried pulling batteries, resetting the xbox and also resyncing it to the system. It will turn it on and nothing else. Return? Common?

Did you contact them back again about the missing shipment?

Junk? I can't speak for this since I can't tell what happened just yet but most of the things in fact all of my stuff from there has been like new and 30% or more off. Never had an issue till now. This controller got to me for $60 or so and is like new except for the fact in less than a week it just turns on the system but nothing else. Hate to return it when I got it $90 off.

I didn't think to try usb but I will give that a shot tonight and see. I also hate to hang onto a turd if this thing is going to be prone to this shit in the future.

Edit - tried USB and it works but unplugged it does nothing. Can't figure it out. So return it is I suppose.

All I can say is buy it from Best Buy with a 2 year warranty. Wish I did, my sticks are loose already. Still usable currently.

I guess this wasn't mentioned and i didn't read about it anywhere until someone pointed it out to me.

FINALLY Scuf decided to release something for the Elite controller. https://scufgaming.com/scufelite/

The scuf elite kit will include a variety of their thumbstick offerings and progrip handles, as well as a battery replacement that turns the elite into a scuf basically (Why anyone would want to do this i don't know).

I'm excited for the regular domed thumbsticks and that's all i'm buying. I'd like to have seen some different paddles but oh well.

I'm pretty disappointed that they just list 2 kits. That means if I just want one short domed stick, I'm probably going to have to buy a $30-40 kit full of stuff to get it.

Why would anyone want the paddles from scud? Well they are arguably more comfortable and the positioning is much better. Microsoft couldn't use that because it is patented by Scuf otherwise I'm sure they would have done the same.

What's a good setup for halo that I can try and see if I like using the paddles?

I DID switch to manual transmission in forza and use the left paddles for downshifting and the right for up and that feels really fucking cool

well, it's not out yet. hopefully there is an option for that. they currently do sell you a set of 3 thumbsticks so i can't imagine them not doing the same once this is ready to launch

the paddles from scuf make absolutely no sense at all and is mainly for people with some seriously huge hands.

Ordered an Elite to give a break to my two current controllers: the Xbox One launch one (B button isn´t functioning properly; it stays pressed half of the time) and the one with which I eventually replaced it (that has the same problem, but on A button).

I know I can probably repair both of them, but this was the excuse I needed to grab that gorgeous Elite. I have big expectations about it; even PS-fundamentalist, Xbox-hating friends who tested it admitted it is the greatest console controller ever made.

It arrives in two weeks. I hope it lasts at least until Scorpio.

I would totally double dip on an Elite controller if I could customize the colors in Xbox Design Labs.

I use two paddles for FPS: left side is reload and right side is jump.

I can no longer play console FPS without paddles.

I really wish they would change it so I can set every game to have different controls instead of a 1-2 switch.

well, you can actually do that but you have to load them in first. you can create different presets for any game you want and then before playing that game you just load in the two you want.

Semi-old news, but I just noticed that the CronusMax now supports remapping the paddles to whatever you want:

Qn0Ba36.png

This is another much requested feature from our community. Normally you would have to use the Xbox One console, or the Xbox One App from the Windows Store to setup the paddles on your Elite controller. Not any more! You can now map your paddles using our own GPC scripting engine straight out of the box without the need to use any other tools or complicated setups.

Not only can you map your paddles to any buttons, triggers or analog sticks, but you can also map them to combos, macros or mods – the possibilities are endless!

Going to give that a spin tonight!

Be gentle with the bumpers.

Thinking of picking up one of these soon. Anyone play Halo 5 with it, and if so, what layout do you use? Would it be worth it to use all 4 paddles or would 1 or 2 be better?

What are people doing to the bumpers?? I've had mine since launch. Use it daily. Bumpers are still pristine.

Same, but it doesn't really work like that. People have launch day PS4 controllers with perfect sticks on them, and some people have them chip away on the first day of use.

Hardware fails. All of it.

I use all 4 and it's glorious. Can't imagine playing Halo without 'em at this point.

4 paddles is pretty amazing. I use 4 short paddles though. I mainly put low usage skills on the bottom two and slowly work them in otherwise it is kind of overwhelming.

Oh shit. Reading those replacement posts I regret sending it to Microsoft though I bought it at Amazon. Damn it.

Regarding the features of the controller, did you know that you are able to disable paddles if you want to lay the controller down and prevent accidently pressing those?

You can set up profile 2 with paddles disabled and switch to it whenever you need to.

So my left thumbstick template (cross thingy?) is broken now.

Like the middle bare thumbstick started spinning. Not the whole half-sphere, just the middle bit. So this really sucks. Is this a "common" issue?

Am I explaining that right, idk.

My controller came with my elite console which I bought pretty close to release so I assume I'm screwed on getting it fixed.

I saw some of you guys mention a newer version of the Elite at the top of the page, you all sure about that? I'm just waiting on a great price for the Elite since I won't have an XB1 till October anyways, I would imagine that the Gears 4 Elite would be the newest version, but I would want guaranteed quality before dropping that kind of cash on it. Even if it's the best controller ever made, if one person has problems with the bumpers, I'm going to have some doubts at $250.

I'm just keeping my eyes open for deals since I really, really want an Elite controller, preferably to start with on day one with the console instead of starting off with the regular controller.

The Gears 4 Elite controller is not based on the newest version with Bluetooth etc. it is still based on the old version. This was confirmed back at E3 after the announcement by Rod himself.

There are currently no plans to make an updated version of the Elite controller.

shame about the extra-premium pricing then

It's now been 35 days since sending back my faulty Elite and I've still not got a replacement. This is an absolute joke. Contacted MS CS so many times and they keep saying their "back end" team are looking into it and will e-mail soon. They said that 6 days ago, had nothing from them.

Whatever you do do NOT buy your controller from MS. They really don't give a shit and the customer service is terrible. I'm so fucked off with them. All I want is a working controller, it's in warranty ffs :(

Having a similar experience.

What a fucking joke.
