Reached the first "real" boss. Not too easy. I guess this is a good place to stop for today.

Ah alright, wasn't noticing any changes to the price of keys but then again I only sold 2 bones. Thanks!
The bones seem to regulate the price down to a minimum of 20 gold, so if it's already that you won't see an effect (but it can still change the number of keys you can buy at 20 before the price increases).

Well I played 5 hours straight and just beat the first major boss.

This game is fantastic. Really really fantastic.

It's noticeable, but outside of the menus it plays pretty damn well with the controller IMHO (and the menus also work pretty well with the Steam controller and a trackball mode switch).

You can navigate the menus with a regular (Xinput) controller. You just need to hold the start button and continue holding it while moving the curser it brings up. Then click X to select something. Clunky, but it's something one can get used to.

It also suddenly makes better sense having the X button to confirm (except it's A when first interacting with things, after which A then leaves the menus..), since it's easier to keep that pressed along with the Start button, instead of A and Start.

Still a weird setup though.

Played about a couple hours, the game is really great so far. I like how every weapon is useful and teaches you a different skill, really encourages you to try them all out. I also like the guardian system, the three I've found are all pretty useful, making it tough to decide which one I'd like to use, but since you can swap them at any time in town for no penalty, there is no downside to experimenting. The game basically feels like if you mixed Diablo with Ys, which is something I didn't know I wanted until now. Also the music is great.

I haven't had any issues with using the gamepad for fighting, but I also don't have any qualms about using the mouse for menus. It's also not true that the gamepad is bound to 8 directions for movement as was in the OP, at least that hasn't been the case for me.
Thank you for motivating me to try using the gamepad. At least on my end I've got analog movement, plus just the right speed now for cursor movement when holding my "Use Mouse" button. Now I've got an optimal set-up for playing with gamepad, and thankfully the D-pad automatically lets you switch skills and items. I updated the FAQ with newfound knowledge.

Overall it's been a rollercoaster of a launch but it's doing fine.

Seems like every time my character's name appears in dialogue, the rest of the text gets cut off.

Just bought and downloaded and will be starting up the game shortly. Mad props to XSEED and company for bringing this one over.

I'm honestly considering asking for a refund and getting the Steam version, at this point... Maybe if it's still not patched by tomorrow. Though now that I type it out, I sound pretty unreasonable. Eh.

You have the dev of the port literally engaging with people directly in this thread, and she's fixing issues very quickly. Sure, it'd be nice if there weren't issues at all, but c'mon.

EDIT: I actually misread your post. I'm sorry. I read it as "asking for a refund for the Steam version"

I would assume Sara is trying to get all the minor bugs fixed in the Steam version first (she's already patched a sizable number of them) and then once it's clean, translate all the fixes to GOG at once.

The skill thing is no big deal really, just gotta get 100% proficiency on a weapon before using it (which is very quick).

...Ooooooh... I thought you had to get proficiency on the skill, which required using it. This changes things.

Man, the way the gamepad controls are set up in this game is kind of annoying. Instinctively, I want to rebind confirm to A and cancel to B, but if I do that I end up having to use B to talk to NPCs, which feels almost as weird as confirm defaulting to X. I honestly can't decide which one I dislike the least...

At least I was able to easily bind ESC to the start button to bring up the settings/quit menu, though. Gotta love the Steam controller!

Support these releases! We already had a 1.2MB patch, though I'm not sure what it fixed because Steam is refusing to show the News article.

I've worked out a GOG patch already, but I don't know when it'll go through.
Just hang tight, okay, GOG players?

Out on Steam, but not on GOG.

So you need 100% proficiency before using a skill ?

I also don't know if my steam installed the patch or not. I'm supposed to have at least one magic and still cannot access it.

Sorry, I'll clarify. Each weapon has a skill attached to it. You're supposed to be able to access a skill (not magic) when you equip a weapon with that skill. When you get that weapon's proficiency to 100%, you learn the skill innately and then you can access it at any time (with any weapon). The glitch was that you were not able to access the skill at all until you got to 100% proficiency. (In other words you had to learn a skill innately before you could use it at all.) Sounds like this should be fixed soon.

Magic never had a problem as I understand it. Magic books are one-time items, once used allow you to use that spell whenever. They aren't tied to weapons or anything.

So where is the magic/skills menu ? I have been searching everywhere ._.

I go into the menu and I thought it would be one of the tabs next to the itens but both are darkened and never open.

Star at the bottom is magic. The middle tab is skills. Not sure why you can't access it. You should be able to buy entry level spell books at the shop to learn something. Maybe you have to get past the tutorial stage? I don't recall.

I'm glad Charlotte is taking an active role as things flesh out. Seemed for a moment it was going to be "Let's do this! ...and by this I mean I'll stand in this Inn and be a container." I realize I am hired help here, but c'mon, lady!

Very early game:

For some reason I thought this came out on the 10th (I guess because so much other stuff is).

Purchased! I can't wait to give try it out!

Oh.

Oh I could get reaaaaaaaaaaaally involved in playing this. There's a "zen" to playing this like VS, but simpler in preparation. I think the music and color palette play parts in this.

Several people have reported this now, so I hope it's fixable.

Yup, had to avoid my go-to guy name and go with "Brave" heh.

Uh? Does the name you enter have anything to do with it? If so, any idea what the issue is exactly?

I got to a story segment earlier and there was so much text missing that I ended up turning the game off and figured I'd wait to see if Sara can fix it. I'm not very far in, so I wouldn't mind starting over with a different name if it could prevent the bug from happening.

edit: Well, not sure if it's a coincidence but I started a new game with a 6 characters long name (the maximum the game allows) and the bug doesn't seem to be happening. Weird.

So stoked this came out, I recently bought the Trails in the Sky games on sale and have been on a tear through the Falcom games on steam after finishing FC. Loved the various Ys games too, can't wait to buy this. Just have to finish TiTs SC first. :)

Hm, I get stuttering regardless of how low the Frame Buffer is set with a 980Ti @ 1440p, but running it a lower resolution helps with Windowed Mode.

What was the max resolution that was used back when this was originally released? I guess I may as well run it at that.

Edit: Eh, it's stuttering no matter what I do. Bummer. The game seems awesome though, so I'll push through!

Just sunk 3 and a half hours, now I'm done with most of Eternal Maze just like old times. What's scary is how fast I've gotten at this game...maybe post-game rankings won't scare me anymore.

Sadly this seems to be the biggest problem not yet solved with XSEED's release, and going from lowest to highest graphics settings doesn't stop it.. I hope Sara can fix whatever's causing this—for all we know it's a problem with DirectX 8 not cooperating with modern GPUs.

A Steam user seems to have found a temporary patch/configuration to reduce stuttering via NVidia Inspector.

FWIW I am on a 980 and the only settings change I made was putting res at 1920x1080x32. No stuttering for me unless we are talking rare frame drops (only noticed one)

Oh, I switched it to 'smooth' as well, I think. I was getting a steady 60.

I'm having the name cutting off issue as well. I think I may give it a few days and see if Sara makes any progress. I beat the first little dungeon and I already like it a lot more than the little of Ys i've played.

No stuttering here either.

1080p, everything maxed and forcing 4xSGSSAA. Running a 980 and on Win10.

EDIT: G-Sync monitor though @ 144hz.

Wow, that totally fixed it. So now I'm running my 980Ti@1440p with the Frame Buffer at 8192x8192 (Max)

I just need to solve the name thing and we're in business! I see that longer names seem to resolve that, maybe I can give up my name.
