I'm liking it a lot. Performance isn't where it should be. i7 5820, 16gb ram and 1080ti holding at almost perfect 60fps with everything max except Sun Shadow and God Rays set to normal/screenspace respectively. But there are definite random dips and it feels a bit stuttery.

Enjoying the atmosphere and style. Combat is pretty damn fun. Going at level 8 difficulty at the moment which is pretty tough but manageable. Trying to unlock everyone now, in the middle of Braddock who I love already.

I looked at a stream shortly and saw lots of dmg pop ups and difficulty options, but didn't really see looting in this game. Is that all just fluff? OP is pretty sparse on info... but I'd be sold if that 15 difficulty setting offered better loot or something. Just something more than story missions.

Just played for 2 hour on PC and I am enjoying it. Pretty fun game.

I have a ryzen 5 1600, 16gb ram, GTX 1080 and 1440p I was getting 70fps on ultra settings and 110 to 120 on high settings. V sync off because I use my 144hz monitor that has gsync

Increased difficulty nets you % increase to cash and XP. I'm at 8 and get a 35% boost to XP and 40% boost to cash.

There is no item loot per se. Each hero has a special attack slot, a weapon slot and a passive slot. You unlock different items for that slot per hero as mission rewards only. In the actual world you get money, xp, character/weapon skins, car blueprint bits and crafting materials, skill upgrade orbs. The xp difficulty levels give incremental % of extra xp and cash.

So I finally got to the point where I can just start recruiting agents...

This game is fun. It's a slow build but once it unveils everything it's trying to do, it's really fun if you enjoyed SR2/3.

It's reigned in compared to SR4, but I think it does the game justice.

The particle effects are also goddamn incredible on a 1080Ti using all the nvidia fluff.

EDIT: also dat Crackdown jumping

Just got Daisy. The game is definitely rough around the edges but I'll be damned if I'm not having a good time. Hope this gets a sequel because the potential is through the roof. Also, the way this game handles overheating with some characters is genius.

i love the way yeti is handled. There's literally no reason to ever conventionally reload. Looking forward to see how some of the less promoted character play once they get unlocked. The variety in the way the characters work has been A+ so far

Kingpin is super fun to play as.

The game doesn't do itself any favors with Hollywood or Hardtack, especially, as they're rather slow. Fortune is super great though. But man Braddock and Kingpin feel great. Gat is really great too. Rama I like as well as a sniper. Only have half the crew and so far I really like most of them. Despite being a bit tanky Hardtack is still interesting and Hollywood is a good all arounder.

This game is pretty fun. Do you have to unlock the room in the HQ to change character skins or am I just too dense to figure out how to do it?

You can select skins from the Agent Select/Deployment menu before dropping into Seoul (it's in a little menu below each character). If you're just starting the game, it should open up around the time you get the option to unlock the first additional agent.

Also worth noting you have to a one-time "load" of the DLC costumes from the pause menu, which is kind of weird. The game will pretty explicitly let you know when the option is available in a pop-up notification.

You are one dense motherfucker. You can change them when you deploy. Choose "Edit Squad" and it's right below their character select option.

Hollywood is a good starter character but i feel like i'll be coming back to him more often than not. I don't know how consistent it is but i've managed to use my mayhem and then rack up enough damage that i get a new mayhem before my 1st one even finishes. pretty great. I want to like hardtack more than i do. The gadgets for his spear get used in some interesting ways. I just unlocked braddock and i don't like at all. Mainly because she's semi auto and everyone else up to this point as has been full auto but i'll give her a chance eventually. At this point i have hardtack and braddock doing the international mission stuff.

You can change skins when you pick your squad before dropping back into the open world

Haopy about the good impressions from gaffers. Im beating saints christmas and gat out of hell before I install the game so i hope theu fix with a patch some of the stability problems when i finish the others.

I say this as someone who doesn't necessarily regret my purchase or hate what I'm playing, but I can't help but feel like this game is an answer to a question like "what if you combined the least interesting/successful aspects of Destiny, Battleborn, and Overwatch and shoved them into a single-player game with Saints Row assets." It feels like somebody wanted to chase every major multiplayer shooter trend of the past few years and then ultimately ran out of time and couldn't add the multiplayer part. I dunno, I can't put my finger on it, it's just a weird game that feels like it's trying to be too many things at once.

The dev actually said they were mid development when overwatch was shown and were afraid shitless until blizzard showed gameplay.

So basically you are probably wrong and was just a coincidence.
They actually said they were inspired more by mobas and that wanted to do something singleplayer bit thay still was teambased.

Liking the game so far.

Not sure how much time I've put so far, but I got Rama, Braddock and Yeti as my main team right now. Didn't do any story mission after unlocking Rama though.

Focused on unlocking characters, getting the relic money flowing in, doing some other side stuff and progressed to a second section of the world map.

Didn't get my Gat code (PS4) today, have to go back to ebgames to get it tomorrow, they said it was an error in their system and they'd get the codes tomorrow. Can't wait to unlock him.

I've shied away from changing difficulty though so far. But I'm not all that great at shooters in general, so I'll probably stick to default.

I only bumped it up to level 5 or 6, but the extra cash and experience you net from doing so will make things a bit easier.

The story missions are pretty good, though! I did the first Hammersmith mission with Kingpin, which has me wondering if they recorded similar dialogue for every single character in the game for every story mission, since he's very chatty with Friday and Gremlin the whole time.

All the more reason to go back and try it at a higher difficulty with other characters, I guess.

I feel 2 ranks above recommended difficulty is just right. Not easy but not punishing either.

What level are you at the moment? I just hit 7, but Braddock is a bit lower since I just got her. I probably won't have time to dig in as much as I'd like until the weekend.

That early agency upgrade you can buy that removes the cooldown for dashing is superb

One thing I dont like is when an agent dies and you revive them it mixes up the order so my muscle memory for comboing people gets messed up.

I swap between my agents whenever banter happens to mix things up, and its a little funny to hear all three of them over the course of the mission repeat something like the Uranus joke or tell Friday they dont know what the fuck she's talking about

Ok, so how's the game? I heard their are some performance issues on pc. How does it run on ps4? Is it like SR, or nothing like it?

I'm a couple of hours in and so far, I'm enjoying the game more than I thought I would. I preordered on a whim and figured I'd try it out before refunding it, but I think I'll let them keep my money. My only complaint right now is that performance seems to be all over the place.

Two sessions tonight, played until I unlocked Rama. I think the moment to moment combat so far is solid and I really like how the game "feels". The GI Joe aesthetic is spot on and although the writing hasn't captured me it hasn't really made me groan or anything yet either.

Mission design isn't anything super spectacular but I'm only a mission or two into the game. A whole bunch of agent unlock side missions opened up and I plan on focusing on those tomorrow.

Seoul is really colorful. The art style reminds me so much of the original Crackdown, mixed with some Sunset Overdrive. I almost wonder if AOM is going to actually outdo Crackdown 3 in the art department when CD3 releases in November. The verticality here seems pretty good with lots of buildings to jump and climb on.

It feels a little less populated than I'd like and doesn't seem to feature the liveliness of say, Watch Dogs 2.

Performance is my major complaint right now on my regular PS4. It hasn;t dropped to anything below 20 fps I don't think but it's definitely not smooth. It has that deal where if you load into a smaller room the framerate almost seems to double and run like butter. It hasn't really impacted my play in combat but it's still a bit disappointing.

Having a good time so far!

I think Karak said earlier it kinda struggles to maintain 30 on a base PS4, but does better with the Pro. That's been my experience so far with the Pro, anyway.

There are a lot of nods to Saints Row (the purple fleur-de-lis, a bunch of the Agency cars, and straight up at least three of the agents), but I wouldn't say it plays much like Saints Row. It's a lot snappier, more combat heavy. And the driving is way worse, for whatever reason.

That said, a lot of the side missions feel like the side activities from Saints Row IV (think less, uh, Insurance Fraud or Genki, and more destroying lightly guarded antenna towers, etc.). And the alert/escalation system feels like it's right out of Saints Row IV, ending with a fight against a heavy that resets the alert once it's dead.

OK, I need to stop for the night. So far I'm really enjoying the game after about 4+ hours of playing. I've recruited everyone up to this point that I can, which is half of them, and they all play differently and in interesting ways that I feel like I'll want to mess around with all of them and not just pick 3 I really like and ignore the rest, which is rare for me.

Game isn't perfect though. Music is surprisingly soft and low volume with no real identity or flair, especially when it's needed like intro sections and mission titles. Completely lacks that dramatic sting and bombastic nature you'd get in 80s cartoons. Which is odd for Volition as they were pretty great with the music selection in the SR series. Seoul has no real soul, it's just a futuristic set piece to connect everything together. It's very pretty and has great verticality that makes traversing on foot fun, but that's all there is to it. Pedestrians are just fodder and there's nothing to interact with in the world itself. Driving is just OK, they've never been very good at it, but there's really nothing to it. Collisions are easily the worst part of it as they kill your momentum and have no weight or impact to them. These are supposed to be over the top cartoon agents, where's the flair and gadgetry to the vehicles? Rockets, caltrops and other bonkers shit. All that said, end of the day the main gameplay loop is a lot of fun and that's what matters most.

Jacking the difficulty up to 8 has me rotating through my 3 characters every few seconds. I feel the need to be on my toes at all times running around, quick dodging and jumping. Only having one ability per character, short cooldown between melees and different dash styles has me constantly setting combos and using each character's strengths to setup the next ones. It's a really great system they have in place.

So far I've also enjoyed the writing and humor. It's not amazing but it's goofy and irreverent. Just from the new agent missions though I'd say one thing I don't like about it is that it seems too lowkey about it all. I want there to be more of it and have it be more over the top. You get these great animated intros and then these goofy Saturday morning cartoon title cards, but when actually playing the game it's more subdued. I need more of that over the top camp and zaniness. But I haven't play any of the actual main missions yet so I may find what I'm looking for there.

As long as things keep going as they have, or get better, I'll be more than satisfied with my purchase. The core gameplay is just really damn fun and despite any flaws or underdeveloped aspects that core gameplay is more than enough to keep me going.

Yep, just checked my game and I'm playing on diff 8 as well. It feels right for me, like the person above said. Time to recruit Yeti!

You know, I thought that the Johnny Gat stuff was just going to be tacked on, but his mission was pretty funny and his special ability is super overpowered.

Anyone know of a good spot to jump in my car for the 50m achievement?

Nevermind, found one!

I feel like whether or not the game will resonate to someone checking it out depends on how much they enjoy the combat.

And the combat is pretty damn amazing - there's a frenetic pace of switching out Agents, mixing gadget effects and using Specials at the right time to destroy some of the wilder enemies. There's nothing like being on the brink of death and activating a crazy Mayhem move to catch a second wind!

The writing is a lot of fun, although it's apparent that the mission design is the limited factor. You'll be hacking stations, going to underground lairs, and fighting wave after wave of enemies in some uninspired locations. Seoul itself is pretty to wreak havoc in, but feels lifeless. The upgrades to both your Agents and the base really help make you feel like your characters are growing stronger as you progress.

I think the best praise must be directed to the variety and differing playstyles of the Agents. I actually feel damn compelled to level the hell out of a lot of them because they're a ton of fun to use. I just unlocked Daisy, and she's such a change of pace from everyone else; and every Agent truly feels unique. I wish there were more costume skins, but maybe in time.

I think if you're asking yourself if you want to jump in, remind yourself that this is an open world title that really is combat focused. The customization and tweaking comes from you figuring out your Agent loadout and abilities, rather than cosmetics. The on the fly switching feels really awesome to me, and I know even though people are upset about the lack of co-op, being able to switch so quickly has made for some killer combinations of stunning and obliterating enemies.

I'm heartily enjoying it! But much like Mafia III that I loved, you've got to know what you're getting into.

I like this game a lot. It's like an R-rated saturday morning cartoon that is a bunch of mindless fun to play

The humour is hit and miss but it still definitely hits in places

Love the game so far but it runs like shit. Dropping to 25-30 FPS in the open world on a GTX 1080 at 1440p. It runs fine in missions, usually like 60-80 FPS, so there's just some poor optimization in the open segments. Maybe it loads too far or something.

So far, got four agents. Opinions on them, playing on Difficulty 10, keeping it highest at all times.

Fortune - Great, nimble, solid abilities. Damage is kind of low but this is fixed with consistent headshots. Good for picking off low targets. Adore her Mayhem move. She's cute and fun, great dynamic personality. A little on-the-nose with the Tracer expy, but not bad.

Hardtack - Great burst fire and boss-killer, poor against groups. Hate his Mayhem move. He might get replaced later but he's a solid tank for now. He's a bit basic and veers into uncomfortable stereotype territory at times, but he seems cool too. Just worried I'm gonna here a 'GOOD GOT-DAMN, THESE FOOLS IS TOAST' from him soon.

Hollywood - Ugh. Obnoxious, basic playstyle, obnoxious, basic personality. He's not bad, just dull in every way. Grating voice actor. Dropped him first.

Rama - Hanzo basically, but fun at it. Love her abilities, and she hits like a truck. Generous hitboxes. Almost impossible to miss if you're in the ballpark.

On another note, love the Mayhem tracks. A bit stereotypical, but solid.

I started playing it today, with pretty dampened expectations but I found the beginning fun enough. I was expecting bad performances after all I've read because I still sport an i5-2500k even if paired with a 1070 yet the game was performing rather well, 60fps most of the time, responsive etc.
I guess the game took notice of my fears because just as I jumped into a car and started driving around in Seoul to follow the dark matter ball, I got an insufficient memory crash (I have 8GB). Ah well.

are the side quests fixed or are they randomly generated? i can't tell if i'm completing a lot and the number is going down, or if they just keep regenerating

I think I saw something in a dev diary that the quests are replayable but variables like location change so they're not identical every time.

Never got my preorder code from Amazon. Heard from a rep and they claim they ran out of codes and are trying to get more. That's pretty lame. I would have just grabbed it from GameStop otherwise.

It's a real shame that it seems the deeper people go the more they like it, and the better the game becomes. This thread feels dead by comparison to other sleeper hits. The reviews don't reflect how some of you feel and that's keeping many from wanting to buy as well.

Is it just me or are the requirements for the daily challenges too steep? I don't think me and my teams completed a single one yesterday.

So I actually didn't realize this was a single player game when I bought it, I was assuming some sort of MMO component like Destiny or something.

I've only invested about an hour into it but I like it. The 3 character swap and amount of customization isn't overwhelming but deep enough to have different builds that it's cool to switch it up. Hopefully the end/post game content is good enough that I can sink 50-60 hours into it overall.

Has anyone ran into any problems with Gat? For some reason when I play his first mission, he loads without his weapon and can't exactly use it to fight back.

I think/hope the combination of the various tech options for altering your character's abilities and the large variable difficulty settings will make playing and experimenting with the game enjoyable beyond completing the main story. And to a lesser degree going through all the story missions and seeing how each character reacts and comments on things could be interesting.

Has anyone ran into any problems with Gat? For some reason when I play his first mission, he loads without his weapon and can't exactly use it to fight back.

What system are you on?

I only had two issues with the game on PC. Both while driving, which seems to be the section with the worst performance. Once when I was driving I hit a point where half the city wasn't loading and all the buildings and surfaces had no textures and the geometry was very big and blocky, but then it loaded in. The second time the game crashed while driving during Braddock's first mission

Outside of that I haven't had any problems. Gat's mission went completely smooth.
