Oh you're going to get eaten alive for saying this. Good luck mate!

Yes it gets better as you progress and get stuff but can't say how much better though

hey guys

i just started this after getting a switch through work. started with zelda as ive always been a fan of said series.

but bloody hell is this boring.

does it get better as you go on or??

It’s a great game if you’re willing to give time to invest in it.

My personal opinion is that while it has faults, it’s still a masterpiece like Ocarina of Time was when it released.

It’s a very polished game with tons and tons of surprises.

It’s also the first “free roam” Zelda that doesn’t have a linear progression like the games prior. So it might be hard for some people to adjust who are used to prior games.

I’ve always found it to be an extremely relaxing game to play with tons of places to explore.

It's a nintendo game dude it's epic. 10/10. Nothing like horizon zero dawn or all those indie games. This shit is amazing. Nintendo once again makes a 100% unique game deserving of a perfect score.
hell yeah

Ex-fucking-actly. If you don't love this game, video games are not for you.

Edit: how did you get your work to pay for a console?

Edit #2: or is 'through work' a wink wink, nudge nudge, fell off a truck kind of thing?

It didn’t get better for me, OP, but your experience may vary. It wound up feeling like a directionless Skyrim clone where the journey is supposed to far outweigh the destination... and those games are not for me. I prefer more focused experiences that keep me invested.

Extremely brittle weapons and annoying climbing meters also help to snuff out any further interest in this game for me after the first couple of hours.

One person’s treasure is another person’s trash.

Overrated in my opinion. No better than an 8/10 and im being generous. The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, AC Origins/Odyssey simply does everything that BOTW does but far better and with better visuals, actual stories, full voice acting and just overall better.

I see BOTW as a slow, dull, empty, boring open world with outdated combat, non-existent story, minimal voice acting, etc. For me, it's simply old, outdated and obsolete. I lasted 22 hours and the last hour or two, I was literally just wandering around and there I knew - game was fucking done.

But if you continue playing, good luck and hope you can actually enjoy the game.

The game has some outstanding elements (like it's physics, the overall atmosphere and look, the puzzles, etc.) but, I think it is also a severely overrated game. The lack of variety in the far too big map, overall repetitiveness, needless busywork, terrible equipment system, and minimalist, mediocre soundtrack made it one of my least -favorite titles in the series unfortunately.

6/10

You're given most of your tools (bombs, stasis, ice-blocks, etc) within the first two hours, so if you can't make your own fun after that point, it's probably not the game for you.

There's significantly less plot-driven guidance (read: hand-holding) compared to most other 3D Zeldas, so I can see why it didn't resonate with a lot of long-time fans, for what it's worth.

I also was bored of this game and REALLY tried to like it. After 30 hours of trying everything I said to myself "why the fuck are you playing this moron?". I proceeded to powering my 360 and playing MvC2 for the next 3 days.

I'm sure you would've loved it more if Zelda had big anime tiddies, wouldn't ya?

I found the game best at the start. It's very repetitive, so if you're bored now, good luck.

I didn't like it at first. It felt a little too "My First Open World RPG". After everything clicked, I put about 70 hours into it.

I still have some complaints. The weapon breaking mechanic was just not fun. I get what they were trying to do but I don't think it added any enjoyment. The shrines got a little repetitive and some were obtuse. I would have preferred traditional dungeons instead of puzzle shrines but at the same time, I praise them for trying something a little different.

While not my favorite Zelda, it's up there. Just like any RPG, you have to give it a little bit of time to level up, get some items and get a feel for everything before you write it off.

Which part of the game do you find boring?

Personally I really enjoyed it, it has fantastic atmosphere and genuinely open, innovative gameplay.

I played HZD and BoTW at the same time. I played Zelda with my wife and Horizon solo. I thought both were solid games, but Horizon overall was the better game.

What did you like about HZD better than BOTW? I don't ask this to be a douchebag, but just out of curiosity. I thought Horizon had such an underwhelming gameplay and terrible enemy encounter design, I fail to see what this game has other than really good looking graphics.

It's an early access open world game with no legitimate objective with craptastic graphics and poor voice acting. Oh wait, I mean cartoon bubble text because of typical low budget Nintendo. No troll post; it sucks.

What is innovative about it? Having stamina meter when climbing? That SoTC already had in 2005 in terms of hanging on for dear life against a boss monster. Setting up objects in the world to peform tricks with those objects? Already done as well.

Gets kinda tiring to engage with threads like this when there is no real discussion to be had because of claims like "but bloody hell is this boring. " as the starting point.
Like, whats the point of the thread? do the OP care to give his insights in how the game is boring to him? How can anyone know what he means by "does it get better as you go on or?? "
Maybe he is asking if the game changes? but as is, there is no real direction for the thread to go on. You either try to explain why the game is great to you or how you think that it is overrated, and it becomes a pointless thread.
Like, maybe if you are gonna start a thread try to put some effort? because if you can't bother maybe you should just try to necro the old OT or some other LTTP, this is hardly a LTTP thread.
OP, if you just want to know what to expect from the game, i recommend this video, there are no real spoilers appart from locations, but the appeal and systems are very well explained:

Maybe the thread is just bait...who knows really.

The combat in HZD was really good, especially for an open-world game and much better than BoTWs. I also disagree strongly about enemy design. HZD's enemies are amazing.

The story of Horizon was also very cool, something I was not expecting going in.

BoTW beat it in its sense of exploration and world traversal, but HZD beat it in pretty much every other aspect imo - gameplay, story, graphics, performance, etc.

Its very important to state i went from zelda botw straight to horizon.
Don’t do that it completely ruined the game for me.
It suddenly felt so old.
Clunky and outdated in everything it did besides gfx ofc

For me, BOTW's chief issue was it's difficulty. The tutorial area was about right, then they completely messed up in the intro to the open world making the difficulty spike all over the place for no particular reason, and by mid game any difficult the game had completely vanished once you had enough health+armor to stand up to the 1 shot kills, and had realized that cooked hearty Xs basically gave you near unlimited health. Then it just became a dull grind.

You put anyone who doesn't like a particular game as much as you on your ignore list? Seems mature.
It’s more of the hyperbolic bullshit that comes out in these threads that I find off-putting.

Speaking of maturity — I’m not overly concerned if a stranger on an anonymous Internet video game forum thinks I’m “mature”, and you probably shouldn’t either.

ive never played it myself, but think this is one of those games where part of its greatness can only be appreciated by people who like games where you make your own fun. People like this appreciate games like Sea of Thieves, although I think Zelda has a bit more direction than that game. I'm like you I think. I need a bit more direction and goals in my game. I don't wanna just go anywhere and do anything. Tell me what the goal is and make that journey the best part of the game.

Again I haven't played so I could be completely off here, but all I seem to hear about when people praise the game is the whole "if you can see it you can go there" spiel. Like that's cool and all, but what about the boss fights? Is Gannon still a thing? Any cool weapons? Other characters that are interesting. Specific dungeons that are really challenging?

Fair enough. Just to be clear about something, I meant enemy encounter design and not the enemies themselves. Pretty much every enemy you encounter will be surrounded by a horde, so the game incentivizes you to just run past everything. Since there's zero reward for exploration, this makes the world feel way to inconsequential. It feels like playing a load screen.

For me personally the game really opened up and started to grip me after beating the first beast. Up until then the game really felt like it was hand holding me. I know you can do them in any order, but the game really pushed you into zora.

I love the Zelda series and I’ve beaten most of the games, but I just can’t get into this one. I forced myself to play about ~25 hours, but it’s not getting any better. Weapon durability is a huge bother to me, making the right food so you can travel through certain climates and the lame shrines. Why do we need 120 shrines? Between the number of shrines and the number of moons in MARIO Odessey, I feel like Nintendo just padded out the games, which result in a drop in quality.

I like that Nintendo is trying to change up the formula for Zelda, but the shrines and weapon durability gotta go imo.

I actually think it gets worse as you go on. Starts off pretty good to me, since it’s such a huge world and you’re wondering what you’ll find. But a lot of what you find turns out to be pretty uninteresting.

The world environments themselves are great. What you actually find in those environments usually boils down to shrines, enemy camps, korok seeds, stables, or a divine beast. And no, they don’t look any different from each other.

I disagree. For me it's the first Zelda since the OG that replicated the sense of scale and wonder I had as a 6 year old exploring Hyrule and searching every corner for secrets.

I'm also an absolute sucker for any story set in the Era of Decline.

See, this is why videogame hype can be obnoxious. Nothing replicates the wonder of being six, except maybe a brain injury.
