MediEvil (PS4) demo is now available

Looks like it lost a large portion of it's atmosphere...
  • For starters it doesn't seem have the main theme of the original. At least not in the intro!
  • All weird things that made it look like a Tim burton stop-motion movie have been removed. (the Androgynous form of Zarok, the spiral eyes of the little girl, the form of the zombies being closser to a stick figures, the faint green dust at the end of the stages, ect...)
  • Everything shines and sparkles to much! The treasures, the life-bottles, the runes, the locks. There is to much visual noise! What's wrong with having an item sit on the floor? Afraid that we won't notice it?

You say that, but I hate what they made with the Jet-ski levels in the N.sane Trilogy. The jumping was great for Crash 1 but it was less precise in 2 and 3 than the originals. I just give a pass for the Crash Remake but they made 3 games in one package just like the Spyro.

Now look at Medievil, they are remaking just the first one and looks like the gameplay is missing a lot of the fine-tuning.
Fuck you're right. I forgot about the jet ski levels. I remember really liking 1 but as you say.

Yea they have missed a fair bit of details on Medievil.
The distinct moaning of the zombies and the sound of the health pool.
Dans sword charging up isn't right either. It's the sort of thing where you could see a picture of it and hear the sound in your head.
The music lacks bass too. Little things that made it stick in your head.
I hate the way the camera works now too. It could be a real bugger in the platforming parts but generally it was fine.
Controller doesn't vibrate when he walks.

Lots of little details and some major ones have been over looked.

Really disappointing on this. It was the remake I was really looking forward to.

I just hope this is an old build by now. But to be safe, I will wait for the game to release and see the reviews from people who played the original.

The performance is poor on both consoles, and I suspect the Pro mode is not fully in yet.

I put a video up on this yesterday and the Pro is only being used to boost performance, but both still need work.
Love your videos. Keep up the great work.

Looks terrible. Some things are best left in the past.

Now where's my Demon's Souls remaster you fuckers?

Well, that was short. I think it took me more time to download the demo than to actually play it. I'll still probably get the game at some point, as it's a cheap release.
It's funny to think that this demo was bigger in size than some of full games out there releasing around now.

I'm at work right now. But what they did with the original narrator? They changed just the voice or even the tone too? I remember playing it as child and sometimes I got scared or felt pressured when getting swarmed by enemies.
No clue. They had some of the old voice clips like the gargoyle heads on the wall but either they lost all the ones with the narrator or just decided to go with some old lady that sounds like she's reading a storybook to a bunch of kids.

Not much we can do about it. But I would like to see them enhance the original experience than changing some of the things that were part of the charm from the original. The game always had the silly vibe but I don't remember it being aimed for kids.

Yeah, now it feels like a children's movie or something. Also I just remembered they kept the creepy skeleton laugh at the menu screen. Doesn't fit the game at all anymore.

Better on the pro but i'm surprised how bad it dipped a couple of times.
Wtf is going on?

It's the first thing I noticed on the base ps4, i.e. the framerate is brutally uneven. I also didn't like the narrated books (with one of the Dunmer voice actresses from Skyrim, no less, i.e. "Farengar you need to come at once. A Dragon's been sighted nearby!"). That kinda took me out of it.

On the plus side the music is still one of the best game soundtracks ever & I like the vibration on the controller during combat. But I didn't like the camera - at all. I was fighting it the entire time.

the game is absolutely god awful...

save yourself money and get a used PSP and a used copy of the PSP remake (or emulate it... PSP emulation is pretty good by now) which is actually good...
because they knew they couldn't just copy the god awful gameplay and leveldesign of the PS1 original and call it a day.

The demo is much shorter than the original Ps1 version that ended at the first boss fight in stage four plus included the hall of heroes.
It kind of reminds me of those Sega Ps2 3D remakes that are mostly bland copies of the original.

This is one of those PS1 games that was pretty damn good for it's time, but is a victim of its era. I remember playing it maybe 7-8 years ago and still had a good time, it just wasn't as great as I remembered it to be. A more extreme version of this: Syphon Filter - holy shit that game is rough.

Anyway, I'm going to download the demo as soon as I get off my ass and stop playing the DQ11 switch demo while looking through GAF.

How do I open the door to get the secret?

Thoughts on the demo: Great artstyle, short, good, but I will just replay the original and get this game as a PS+ freebie in maybe 9 month from now on.

I wish the helmet that can be found looked like the helmet Dan has in the intro. Also it would be great to have because Dan had the helmet in the japanese version of the original game:

the psp remake was a disaster and you should be ashamed for recommending it

Played the demo and it is what it is. An old school game doing nothing truly great looking prettier. A solid rental maybe, or psn sale purchase.

This is a strange remake. I was 13 when the PS1 was out and somehow never rented, bought, or cared about this game in any way. Is there a huge following? Why did they choose this as if anyone would care?

People arguing about the framerate, game is just staying true to the original.

I remember some places drop to a single digit framerate

I think the game is well-remembered. Sir Dan is one of the classic Playstation characters that people remember from the PS1 era. He was also in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Play the game....

It happens that we underestimate a saga without having played it. Do not judge without playing .

Yeah I mean I find myself strangely intrigued by it since it's something I never tried at all but it must have enough love for it for someone to think it was a good business decision to remake it. Hell, I could probably play the PS1 version and be fine with that. I love going back to PS1 games.

Game is not bad, it's pretty much the original with a significant graphical overhaul. That is all.
Camera is a problem, it's really outdated and it doesn't follow the action well.
I think this is meant mostly for the fans who already love the game. New players expecting something modern will be disappointed. Honestly I don't think that what was done with Crash or Spyro is much better that what has been done here, but probably it's just that the original hasn't aged as well as those games.

I'll say it again: they really missed an opportunity by not going after the Tim Burton stop-motion look with clay-figure like visuals (and we know it can be done - look at Tomorrows Children), it would have made the game something especial visually.

Dumbest post in this entire thread.

If you aren't shitposting anyway.

This isn't 1998 and this game isn't graphically demanding.
