LTTP : Uncharted 4 what the hell happened (SINGLE PLAYER)

About 4 hours into this game (chapter 8 of 20 odd)
My last Uncharted was 2, which was an amazing game ( 10/10) for me.

Playing this I was super hyped, I was going to get the remastered collection, then though fuck it get the ps4 one.

The start is what you would think but hell the pacing is sooooo odd. The first 5 chapters I played almost with one hand, it could have all been done with a 30 second cut scene, the 'traversal' elements are a joke just look for the clearly labelled hold/jump here sign and follow.
Yes it is gorgeous but all I do is follow a basically pre path down a super linear route. Then suddenly the 20-30mins of movement parts stops and you have to kill 20-30 people dead, then the next boring part. I forget the controls to the shooting part since it was like 30 mins since I shot something.

The characters are so boring, and nothing new, the plot so far is boring as fuck. I personally feel the graphics are good but while playing it hardly matters - the gameplay is soo slow and shit. I am unsure to finish this game, and just move onto TLOU.

What you think GAF. Another overrated game that has the super polish but is basically a 5/10 game.
Lmfao in no way is Uncharted 4 a 5/10. It's a masterpiece and I think the pacing is just fine. It's one of the best games I've ever played and I've played many games

For me it's UC2 and Uncharted 3. Sure, 3 fell off a bit in the latter half (the british guy was just gone and the game felt unfinished) and in 2 there is a bit too much shooting and weak villain.
In 4 the graphics are insane and I like just playing it but there are almost no set pieces and the story is boring. I still like it more than 1

I have used both from time to time. They are both often overused as well, like most phrases or words.

ND I believe recognized a lot of the climbing, some were leftover from a function or element they wanted to add, but ran out of time and/or technical limitations and could not remove them. Something to that effect. I could be misremembering the finer details.

Hence why LL was much better in that regard, and I expect TLoU2 to also be an improvement over both.
Yep, if I remember correctly Naughty Dog had a stamina system in place for the climbing sections, but didn't have enough time to implement it

After having to basically start over after Amy Hennig left, the game still turned out great

yeah i bought this game about a year ago, never played uncharted, made it to like chapter 7 and never watned to touch it again, literally was falling asleep this game was so damn boring. Like...there were several levels with no shooting, just walking...that's not a video game, dawg.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Sony games are NOT movies OP.

More serious though, naughty dog are the Sony company that gets more accused by this. I actually loved the last of us, but I got bored of the slow pace eventually.

It's a surprisingly boring game. Back when I was playing it new, I felt that the actual combat was the only good thing in the game and they decided to barely give us any of it. It's like you get one big arena fight where you can stealth or Rambo, then 20+ minutes of climbing on cliffs. It just bored the hell out of me despite the great presentation.

Combat was probably the best in U3, yet the game in general felt unpolished and janky. Don't know if it was made better in the remasters.

Uncharted 4 felt great as a conclusion to the series. But you had to go through Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 to apreciate that they didn't want to oversaturnate the game with constant combat.

My least favourite Uncharted but still better than most TPS games.
Too little Elena
Too little Sully
Boring villains
A lot of walking and climbing on rails.
Too little humor
Soundtrack crap compared to Edmondson's work

So they took the strongest parts the combat and made less of those parts.
The worst parts the on rails exploring or climbing and extended the fuck out of them in boring stretched out interactive but pretty levels.

It is dependent upon expectations. If you know you are getting third person murder sim with adult relationship character bits and dumb pulpy story slathered with super expensive animations and gfx, then maybe you’ll be satisfied.

if you expect Doom pedal-to-the-floor with Mario tier platforming...

I personally enjoyed it but not as much as UC2 and Lost Legacy but one thing I really didn't like about UC4 was the ending. The whole point of the story was Drake going too far, half way he lost sight of helping his brother and became more about finding the treasure first and he lied to Elena and really like that part but in the end he never got punished for it still got his happy ending.

when the FUCK did people start using the word "pacing" to describe video games

when they morphed into into interactive entertainmen. You base your product on non-player controlled story, you have to worry about pacing. Druckman wanted to be a novelist afterall.

Uncharted 4 was a breath of fresh air, but first you had to be already tired of the Uncharted formula, especially after replaying the games on harder difficulties and murdering thousands of goons.

Clonning U2/U3 formula would have been an overkill for U4 and ppl would be complaning that it's just same shit over and over again aka "You played one, you played them all."

LL was a great "return to form" for those wanting more 2 and 3. The gameplay/controls were great.
yeah controls and gunplay are already very good in u4.

i already have the game in the hard disk lol (it was on a strong discount)

and yet it seems most other games agree with me in this very thread!!
I salute your attempt at meta trolling and just like UC4 I give you 5/10.

I'd say the majority of gamers disagree with these opinions especially seeing all of the awards Uncharted 4 received

Let's not forget games like any entertainment pieces are subjective. One man's gold is another man's err not gold!?

There isn't a wrong or right here ;)

However the over all reception was positive and sales also back this up along with critical response. You might not like it but it is a good game generally speaking.

I don't like Football, I've never played a Fifa game but I can recognise it's a good game. The thing with Uncharted 4 is it does slightly alter the formula and just like Resident Evil it depends what aspects you like the most to how much you rate any one entry. Some themes carry the whole way through so your likely rate every entry positively (like I do).

Personally I loved it. I liked the slower story and character moments, which were well acted, plus it was great to spend more time getting to know these characters even more than we already do (providing you played the series from the start)

When the action does kick off, it has some awesome moments too and the ending is perfect.

The only slightly disappointing aspect for me, was no supernatural elements this time. Ghost Pirates would have been fucking awesome.

Thought it was great tbh. The heist bit in Italy is the best part and the gameplay is unarguably the best of the series (edit: also the bell tower falling, that was brilliant).

I disliked the epilogue though. Felt like wayyy too much like sequel bait.

Also felt the game was better for dropping the supernatural elements (although it didn't exactly make sense).

Ahhhh, the return of the Nathan "The Murder Machine" Drake. LOL!!!

I did enjoy the game. Big improvement over 3. While I found it high quality, I did find it 'more of the same' without adding too much new. Also thought it was also unnecessarily long.

I didnt particularly like the Jeep parts. While at first I liked the winch and thought 'cool new mechanic'.....it quickly got stale:
  1. Drive to area
  2. Climb up.
  3. Realize you need winch.
  4. Climb down.
  5. Get winch.
  6. Climb up with winch.
  7. Attach winch.
  8. Climb down.
  9. Drive jeep up.
  10. Repeat a dozen + times.
It probably is a good time for Sony/Naughty Dog to take a break from Uncharted (I believe Sonys new unnamed studio will e taking over). They should let it marinate for a bit...then come back with a kick ass return.

Yeah that was a bit annoying.

Reminds me, I hate such a funny glitch during the chase scene. The rope got caught round a tree and Drake turned into a ragdoll flying all over the screen eventually getting stuck under the map.

And yet the Majority of people on a videogame forum that have no interest financially in the game specifically agree with me?

I agreed with all the critics myself that dave chapelle is a hack and terrible and that amy schumer is at least 100 times funnier.

They forget an actual pacing and an interesting plot/chara/villains.

The only good things are the graphics, the digital acting during cutscene and the gunplay and movements.

Peak uncharted was the second chapter even with a shitty gunplay.

B-but his brother was the most interesting character in the series not named Sully and Elena though.

I don't understand how OP can love Uncharted 2 but say Uncharted 4 is shit, They basically play exactly the same, 4 is a step up from 2 in pretty much every aspect so to me it almost reads like a troll thread.

These types of threads usually are for the honeypot.

I wish someone made this thread before I started playing..you lucky lucky bastard.

There are a ton of them with this game and TLoU, ironically. They seem to pop up every so many months, like clockwork.

I don't remember the pacing in the game specifically, but I can say my favorite parts of the Uncharted games was the exploration and puzzle solving and my least favorite were the gun fights. Tbh I could have enjoyed Uncharted perfectly fine if they took guns out of it entirely and just focused on stealth, story, puzzle solving. I just loved being in the Uncharted world.

I thought I deleted that proof part but it's true

You didnt like the game and that's fine but the game is great

I probably wouldn't like Breath of The Wild but I understand that it's a great game

Same. I'm extremely suspicious of people bemoaning the lack of gunplay considering that it's always been a weakness of the series.

Seriously?????? So you ignored every post in.this thread to say that? Your post obviously is a trollpost since you have not read the vast amouts of reasons for such aa statement.
Also uc2 is 10years old....if all uc4 is a graphic update of 2then yes its a 5/10 bang on average. If this game is a 10 then how the fuck can mgs5 be a 10?that would have to be a 1000

I liked the game a lot and enjoyed it. I just didn't care for the driving around in the truck parts. I understand they were trying to add some new mechanic to the game and such but it felt tedious and unnecessary. Aside from that though I have no complaints. I liked the story and the characters and the ending felt good.

First playthrough I couldn't put my controller down. Was enjoying every minute of it. Started a second playthrough on crushing and just couldn't be bothered to do it again. The second playthrough is rough and boring because it feels like a chore. Can't complain because it was fun the first time and the MP was decent.

Yes, the game's pacing is slow until chapter 11.

Chapter 11 is the first 2-4 hours of the game. Picks up after that.. from my experience playing the game.

Fair, as much as I'm in the game's favour, it doesn't strike me as a game you'd get much out of a replay. Very much a one and done thing.

I remember I wanted to see something from the game so I quickly looked up a playthrough on youtube and i scrolled to 2 hours and they were STILL at elena playing crash bandicoot...had to go to the 4 hour mark to see what i need to. It's just not a fun game after the initial prettiness of it wears off. After TLOU and even playing Uncharted Remastered collection , UC4 was just a bore cuz as you said once the action actually happened it was over just as quickly.

Just Druckman being overambitious.

He added TLOU elements to the Uncharted formula and failed. Those games are different worlds.

But anyways, if you put the pace aside, there's fun to be had still.

Shit is fucking boring as hell. Like 80% exploring and listening to cutscenes. Made an LTTP of it a while back.
