Neogaf's reactions are confusing

Here's what I think would be a good selection:

B9edh3P.png

In order: Like, Dislike, Love, LOL, Nice, Hmmm, WOW, Sad, Angry, Disgusting, Shitpost, Insulin (when someone's hallucinating), Honk Honk and Cattle (herd npc behavior)

You want downvotes go to Reddit.

The whole point about the existing system is it's a palette of expression but they're all essentially 'Likes ' subject to interpretation. The purpose was so that if you agree with what someone said, you no longer need to quote them with a '^ This' if you've nothing to add, whereas if you disagree with them you should be directly responding. Originally it was just straight likes, but it got expanded with the variations to add some nuance a while back.

Hey, let's calm our colective tits, sir. I was just making a suggestion.

Hey, let's calm our collective tits, sir. I was just making a suggestion.

And I was explaining why it is the way it is (you are the OP after all). You start throwing downvotes, Sad, NPC or shit emojis into the Politics sub or the Console wars threads....it isn't going to be pretty. Is there room perhaps for some more reactions? Maybe but nothing that's principally negative which is what you're largely proposing.

If people can't handle emojis should they even internet?

Determining whether the reaction was used seriously or ironically is half the fun. Each reaction other than lol and like can mean opposite things.

Thoughtful - 'That is a intelligent point' or 'you think you are intelligent but you are an idiot.'
Triggered - Almost always used ironically to mean "you probably triggered an idiot" but maybe rarely used straight up.
Praise the Sun - 'Finally, someone saying what we all think' or 'you are an idiot cult member who worships dumb things'
Love - 'I love the point you just made' or 'I love how much entertainment you give me when you say dumb things'
Fire - "Preach on brother' or 'a bonfire of idiocy'
i think you got it right. reactions are ambitious in most of times and that's the joy of reading each one of them. one needs to interpret the sign and meaning and also the intent of the person who is trying to send the message even in form of sending reactions...

Did you really have to?

Because this is about the umpteenth time this suggestion has come up since the likes system was introduced. and not the first time by you (you were wanting a 'sad' reaction last time in Feb). This stuff was thought through long and hard at the time of its inception in terms of the pros & cons and the whole point was the idea of being able to add a 'like' was deemed a positive move as regards forum engagement, but having clear negatives didn't seem to bring any added value to things versus just Redditfy GAF which was deemed the wrong way to go from an identity perspective, given the forum was essentially relaunched. I'm merely a conduit of the methodology here as I played a small part in matters, but Evilore can do a far better job of explaining to you the 'why' of things as it was ultimately his idea.

rather than thumb down, make a post and argue the point

the flip side burns away 'this' -ing, other antics

👎

This.

But for real, thumbs down is a bad idea IMO. Maybe add a puzzled "wtf" reaction, or a raised eyebrow skeptical reaction, but not a thumbs down

Also, I kinda think it is funny how he LOL reaction can be used more as an ultra dismissive reaction than actual "that was funny" reaction

I still find myself befuddled by the triggered reaction. One day I will understand its TRUE meaning

I think a couple of the current ones are sometimes open for interpretation depending on the content or tone of the post. In that regard it can be a little confusing.

Yeah, that's the one that's the least intuitive as it could be used for people to show that the post they reacted to triggered them or to taunt a post where someone was triggered by something stupid--i.e. a "lol, U mad?" type of reaction. It's hard to tell what people mean as its often on posts where some manchild is ranting about some console warrior nonsense and so on so either type of usage of the triggered reactions fits.

At first I thought it was all about “your post triggers me” but sometimes it seems more of a “hah you’re triggered”

Yep. I think people are more using it in the latter these days. But as I said, it's hard to tell whether it's someone poking fun at a triggered fanboy or if the reacting person in another type of fanboy and was triggered by their ranting. Same with political ranting etc.

Praise the Sun - I appreciate your contribution, sincerely

LOL-can mean I literally found your post hilarious in a good way or bad way. Depends on the poster I am reacting to.

Thoughtful - mostly means I found the post insightful in some fashion. 2% chance if it’s a known dunce on a given topic it’s done in jest.

fire = dem cheeks

thumbs up - huh, ok I can fuck with that

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
They are meta.
I like them a lot because you can interpret them differently depending on the context of the discussion and the people who reacted. They are their own thing and I enjoy them. I am confident that eventually we’ll have too many and some will have to go, but so far so good.

To be honest, I'm not really sure i understand fully why I would use the new emojis instead of what we had. How many posts pop up that would require an empathy emoji? and don't get me started on Strength, is that like a super like?

How should I use the Praise the Sun? Is it supposed to be used to praise a post/ user? But doesn't Fire do exactly that? "That's fire bro!"

Or is Fire like "burn"?

What about Thoughtful? I can never know if they're in doubt or giving the idea a thought.

"I like lettuce"
**Thoughtful reaction**
What does that even mean?

Then there's triggered, but it looks like shook. Why?

1. Go tits thread
2. Praise the sun
3. ?????
4. Relax
