Looking at these pics...I'm gonna have to go with the PS5. I looks like they put more effort into the design aesthetically.
I think the Xbox is more practical, which isn't bad by any stretch, but the look of the PS5 is more futuristic and depicts evolution. Xbox Series X looks like an Xbox One X that had too much for breakfast.

Neither design is that compelling, but I find the new Xbox's utilitarian approach less offensive. The PS5 looks too much like something meant to pass as a generic techno gadget, instead of being immediately recognizable as either a game console or piece of computer equipment.

The engineer in me likes the ultimate expression of function over form of the Xbox Series X, but despite the fact that I will never buy a Sony console, I cannot deny that the PS5's Tron-esque look is really slick and I prefer it cosmetically.

The interesting thing is this generation we get really polarizing design offerings. One is very pragmatic and minimalistic, the other futuristic and sophisticated. I prefer the XSX, but I'm not surprised at all some go for the other design aesthetic.

It goes without saying, the PS5 has some huge vents on the sides. Both consoles went with a vertical design for cooling.

The PS5 is just more futuristic, if that's you taste, well great. Since the PS3 they always dared to try out something new, or push the design towards something different. Personally I never liked it, but a lot of people do so good for them.

Xbox looks like the slick/simplistic mini ITX PC build I always drool over, but never have the balls to build.
PS5 is that weird/fugly case you buy from Ali Express or at those big Chinese tech markets where they sell a bunch of knockoff components.

I liked the PS4 design, the new one is hideous that could be marginally less hideous if it was a solid color and not white. As long as has an acceptable cooling solution for once I'll be happy.
Xboxes have always been giant black boxes, so nothing really changed there. Looks like a mini tower pc so I dig it.

They are both pretty laughable. But I'd give the slight edge to the Series X looking slightly better. Though that's like losing the ugliest person contest.

Both get a thumbs up. Sony's has a bit more flare to it, though I am not a big fan of the ports' placement.

I'll go for the one that will not get laughed at and dismissed as a child's toy by the in-laws. They already hate me enough as it is, but one look at that Sony monstrosity will have them dragging my wife out of our house. And I kind of like my wife where she is.

Honestly, I wasn't paying attention to gaming stuff around the time the XSX was revealed and at first glance I thought it was just a new Xbox One like the One S and One X, meant to be more like a PC hence the tower form factor. Boy, was I wrong. It's not impressive but it's doesn't suck, it's inoffensive, it's just a box with a mesh grille on top. I think it's a weird form factor for a console but I don't have any strong feelings towards it.
The PS5... On one hand the curves, white and black colors, and lights give it a futuristic vibe. Kind of like they took the silhouette of the fat PS3 and carved the PS5 out of it. But on the other hand it's a noticeable departure from anything Sony has released before and I'm not sure where I sit on that just yet.
At this point I like the PS5 better because there's actual design choices going on.
