Capcom source leak suggests RE4 VR

N1tr0sOx1d3

Given another chance
There will be a lot of upset people over this.
Hopefully you can have the option to switch between 1st and 3rd perspective unless of course the entire game is in 3rd.
Looking forward to this. Never played RE4.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Will be sweet, RE lends itself to VR perfectly. I mean, other than RE7 (which was far from perfect for VR without hand tracked aiming/stuff tbh) that is, normal RE. Wander around, stop to shoot/interact, no strafing and stuff, with the old school tank controls + the ability to slightly move however you want physically in your play space. I wonder how they'll do the melee follow ups to feel satisfying though. It either has to be manual where you'll just punch the enemy and have him blow back or something, or remain automatic so you'll just approach them, activate it and your first person camera view will remain static (still being able to look around etc. physically though) while the character will jump forward from it in the same good old animations to supplex the zombie or whatever. You can't have RE4 without that stuff so one way or the other.

Do you really think they’re working on two RE4 projects at the same time?
It says Oculus so if the target is not just PC but also the Quest 2 with its mobile chipset then it's possible it will be the original game converted to VR/FPV, like the Wii edition previously. Unless it's a PC game like Medal of Honor. It could still have two modes for the remake, like there's a FPV cam in the RE2/3 remakes but they don't let you enable it without mods. The enemies, puzzles, environments all the same, just FPV with hand tracked aiming for VR, normal third person/gamepad controls out of VR. If this is it then hopefully VR will be fully fleshed out this time, not tacked on like in 7.

honestly, unless re4 is VR, i probably wont go out of my way to play it. the same way i didnt go out of my way for re3 remake (although that one didnt need vr imo... it needed static cameras and tank controls :messenger_grinning:)

gotta laugh at how some people feel threatened by vr ITT. lol, chill guys, there is usually a non VR counter part for VR games. im sure they will have a re4 non VR mode... hell we have no idea how true this re4 vR rumor actually is, my money is on it just being a rumor and it never actually happening.

...

oh whats thta? you just came in to troll and dont actually want to contribute anything to the topic? ah, yes, ok i see now. well then... we'll just put you in the corner and you can cry it out while the rest of us enjoy VR. kthxbai

The RE4 VR thing seems to be a collab with Oculus for an exclusive title, just like the new Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell VR games, which would be totally unrelated to the remake in the works at M-Two. Also, while the RE4 remake has an estimated release window of 2022 according to a report by VGC, the RE4 VR game is apparently slated for 2021.

So, yeah, there are two different RE4 projects in development.

Hrrm...dunno how I feel about that. Still don't think RE4 needs a remake as bad as Code Veronica does (or at all, truthfully).

Fuck third person. I'm right there in the village with a gun in my own hands, why would I need to control a character as if I were watching him on tv?

Wait why would RE4 Remake be VR when not even RE8 is 🤔

because VR needs high framerate and double the frames rendered (for each eye)

old games just run better than new ones trying their best to look like movies and running at sub-30fps

still, most high end VR games being developed - like RE8 - are likely waiting for psvr2 to be announced to make proper use of PS5 extra power and big market. In a year or two we see how this goes...

Btw, reminds me this:

except this is much more direct evidence and an old game is much easier to port to VR intact

in any case, we need more ports like these in VR. On Quest 2, in particular, I hope for a port of older Elder Scrolls games, like Morrowind...

I love how VR is already dead. Or it’s just a deep coma?

VR has a bigger use in stuff like sim racing or other sims. I’m personally tired of the standard shooting fare for Vr. That got old quick but for racing? It has torn me away from all other types of gaming.

I'd say 3 different remakes of RE4, because RE8 itself feels totally like it.

that's flat gaming industry right now: just perpetual remasters, reskins, remakes, "sequels" of same old formula

racing in vr is one of the most fun and exciting game experiences ive had. and i only played a demo. not even sure what it was, but it felt real af.

and im not a fan of racing games. like, at all. thats how awesome it is

So, first person perspective I'm guessing? 3rd works fine of course

Good lord this must have pissed off Capcom so much. They almost bowled a perfect game with RE4 being on every fucking platform in existence. Must suck leaving the proverbial last pin standing by not slapping RE4 on VR. Give it time, though. I'm sure they'll come around as soon as they're finished with Deep Down. Any day now...

Yeah it really makes all the difference. Depth perception on turns jumps dramatically. I’ll have to show you what I’m working on when I’m done with it. Just to show how much VR racing has done to me lol.

VR is incredible when done right and Capcon has also worked with the tech. This isnt some kinect trash.

One of the key aspects of the gameplay, melee attacks, cannot co-exist with VR. That only leaves us with 2 possibilities:
  1. VR with no melee
  2. VR with steady camera melee (front kick)
Unless the rumour is false, you can’t have 4 in VR and it still be the same game. It doesn’t matter if it’s the original or a remake. If I can’t suplex a zealot, then it’s not 4.

Dead/coma in the same year Half-Life Alyx came out? Not by a long shot. This has been one of the best years for VR in many respects: new headsets are coming out left and right, like the HP Reverb G2 and Oculus Quest 2 to mention a couple, aside from Alyx there has been a deluge of excellent games like The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners, Iron Man VR, Star Wars Squadrons, Pixel Ripped 1995, etc.

As the lockdown continues, VR has helped people a great deal, by being able to virtually be "outside", interact and meet with others as if they're physically there, assist to events like concerts, going to the movies, work, education, etc.

What's wrong with running alongside your favorite heroes? We can have both. I would be happy if companies started adding "unsupported" VR modes to all of their games, even if they didn't change the mechanics or controls, just the sense of scale and place alone makes it worth it IMO. Of course that wouldn't mean they'd stopped doing full VR games that take advantage of the medium, and it would artificially expand the game library nearly instantly.

What about switching to third person view when suplexing? Kind of like in Creed when you get knocked down you get expelled from your virtual body and have to run towards it to get up, but it would be more like a camera switch instead of an "out of body" experience.
