[LinkedIn speculation] Halo Infinite drops last gen versions. PC, SX, and SS only.

Title sounds like it's been confirmed, clicked in here fast thinking it was as a result, lol. There's another thread about this floating around. 👀

might want to put a "rumor" or "speculation" tag on that title.
EDIT: I see it was updated.

It would be a good decision. Let the old gen die, make the new one attractive. Use the full potential of the new hardware and give us the game that Craig deserves.

Isn't it possible this person only worked on the new gen versions? Or didn't feel the need to add older gen versions when employers are probably looking for people to work on new gen games?

As an aside, this would be great for the Series S/X versions I think. But I would feel royally screwed over if I bought a One or One X in the past 6 months or so expecting to be able to play Halo on it.

The game looked atrocious by even last gen standards.

Being cross gen was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of challenges with this product.

Even if this was true, it would only be for perception and nothing else. They are not going to fundamentally rework the engine and game to make it so next-gen that it can't run on X1.

Good move for sure. Cyberpunk should have done that.
Cyberpunk sold 13 million copies thanks to those damn old gen bastards. How many copies do you think it would have sold without those? 2 millions? Maybe 3?

How many copies will HI sell being only on next gen? 1 million? If this is true they are setting up for a financial disaster.

Game Pass has nothing to do with that. The Medium (January 28), Flight Simulator and Scorn will launch with Game Pass on 2021, without a Xbox One version.

Well that's sucks. Doesn't that go against their "all in one family eco system" model?

This is not very convincing. People update their LinkedIn in order to find new jobs (or at least eventually). As each day goes by it’s less relevant to include an old generation console on your resume as nobody will be looking for those keywords. Also, Halo Infinite involves 3 other studios who are likely going to be delegated he work of the last gen ports. As game developers often use the hired help to do DLC, special modes and ports to not as important platforms.

I mean, why would it be that good news? The game won't magically improve the moment XBO is dropped, it was already 95% developed and built with it in mind.

Support it at launch but drop it with the next major DLC is the best option imo. Destiny did that, and you could tell where it stopped being built with 7th gen assumptions in mind.

Hmm, although it would make sense it could just be that this employee is ONLY working on the newer console versions and a different team is handling the previous gen

I just don't see it happening. Microsoft's entire business model with Game Pass is having stuff available in as many places as possible. Cutting out Xbox One (and Xcloud by entension, as I believe that runs on Xbox One hardware) would be like Mandalorian Season 3 only being available on Disney+ if you had a 4K TV or something. It's just the complete opposite of what they're going for.

Too many arm chair MBA types I see these days. Most of the announced first party games(Avowed, Fable, Hellblade II, Project Mara, Everwild, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, Forza Motorsport) are not coming to Xbox One. Also xCloud will use Series X version of games next year.

So... how is your opinion not being an 'armchair MBA'? 😝

Opinion on what? It is coming to Xbox One(will be the last first party game for Xbox One) but that has nothing to do with Game Pass and xCloud, since they have multiple titles in Game Pass for 2021 not coming to Xbox One and xCloud will use Series X blades.

Maybe after how Cyberpunk 2077 was handled on the old consoles, and how the E3 reaction to Infinite happened they went : Well... we can cut our losses and just do a proper next gen version of it. Especially if it is coming out in end of 2021 why bother with the old consoles. Buy the new shit.
