so basically the "60fps" quality mode will be very unstable if they give you a freaking 1080p60 performance mode right?

also did they enhance the Raytracing? because that RT mode on last gen was a bit... well... underwhelming

Could be that both are 60 FPS but use different graphical settings to compensate for the higher resolution.

Also there seems to be a tiny resolution difference between next gen versions...

XBOX SERIES X
  • Quality mode – 2160p - 60 fps
  • RayTracing - 1440p - 60 fps
PlayStation 5
  • Quality mode - 1800p - 60 fps
  • RayTracing - 1440p - 60 fps
Why is there a 46% performance difference in the Quality mode but no difference whatsoever in Ray tracing mode?

Ray tracing should scale the same.

Ouch, 300 more pixels is that right? not sure how the res works from that perspective but is the power gap showing?
What size TV do I need to see this difference, rocking a 65" so will make any future buying decisions based on that and any DS support.
no. almost 2.5 million more pixels.

you will notice 1800p vs 2160p on a 65 inch tv. it should be a bit more crisper and sharper, but not as much as 1440p vs 2160 which is easily noticeable.

I'm actually surprised they even did this with the Remaster. Wasn't it not that well received?

I remember glancing at Lirik's stream when he was playing through it and it some how performed worse than the original, lmao. At least on PC.

Oh my XSS with Raytracing? I am guessing the Switch comparisons are getting less and less apt.

Theres no way there was even a RT mode on Pro unless i'm missing something in your messaging.

there was tho. Pro and One X did have a RayTracing mode, it was ridiculously limited compared to the PC implementation and not worth the performance impact but it was there

Perhaps there are other graphical settings that are different between the two versions.
There was a RT mode on the Pro, it was locked to 1080p but really hovered closer to 900p

PS4 Pro has software raytracing.

People were told but they wouldn't listen🤣🤣🤣
Server blade easily wins out again.

Wel i’m sure it’a not native and won’t run stable. So if that difference must be a thing between the 2 consoles, then it’s a big waste on the XSX.

the RT mode wasn't 1440p on Pro or was it?

So, ultimately, we can't quite achieve the console 60fps dream on Xbox Series consoles with this new patch - and bearing in mind performance levels achieved on Xbox One X, that is a little disappointing. However, the experience can still impress: quality mode on Series X when paired with a VRR-capable display certainly delivers the goods. As for PlayStation 5 - we're looking at this as soon as the game updates but pre-release, Crytek told us to expect 1080p60 in performance and RT modes and 1800p60 in quality mode - all with dynamic resolution scaling in place, naturally. Those resolution limits tie into PS4 Pro's equivalent outputs, if you're wondering why they're lower than Series X. It seems that this is a limitation of PS5's 'back-compat plus' feature - but we'll double check on this and report back on overall performance as soon as we can.

If the game is running in BC mode, then the code to run at 1440p in RT mode likely already existed in the PS4 Pro version.

Last gen version with a 60fps cap.

"Firstly, there's the quality mode, aiming for a dynamic 4K on Xbox One X (with a 1080p minimum). The PS4 Pro equivalent there is a dynamic 1800p, with a 900p minimum - though I should stress that the minimums seem rather rare. Next up is the performance mode - this uncaps the frame-rate while reducing the maximum resolution to 1080p on both enhanced machines. Lastly, we have ray tracing mode. This enables Crytek's impressive software-based ray tracing solution applied to select objects. In this case, on both machines, maximum resolution is dropped to 1080p while minimum is 900p. The vanilla consoles deliver the performance mode's visual feature set with a 30fps cap - got it?"

it's not. the resolution on the RT mode is different so they made changes to the resolution setup obviously
The DF article states that "As for PlayStation 5 - we're looking at this as soon as the game updates but pre-release, Crytek told us to expect 1080p60 in performance and RT modes and 1800p60 in quality mode...Those resolution limits tie into PS4 Pro's equivalent outputs".

So I guess one of them is wrong. The XSX/XSS can have parameters altered that the PS5 backwards compatibility software cannot.

Dips and dips.

Series X
Quality: 50-60fps
Performance: Smooth 60fps with very few dips
Ray-tracing: does't hit the 60fps target (the worst mode in performance terms)

Series S
Quality: Below 30fps target
Performance: 40-50fps
Ray-tracing: hits 30fps fairy well (the best mode here)

Conclusion:

So, ultimately, we can't quite achieve the console 60fps dream on Xbox Series consoles with this new patch - and bearing in mind performance levels achieved on Xbox One X, that is a little disappointing.

About the resolution differeces.

Those resolution limits tie into PS4 Pro's equivalent outputs, if you're wondering why they're lower than Series X.
Just like I guessed and happened in a lot other games like Avengers.

Watching the DF review and the XSX version has dynamic scaling that drops all the way down to 1800p and even goes below 1440p.

And it still drops frames and dips to 52 fps from what I can see so far.

I wonder if MS is forcing these devs to target native 4k at the expense of framerate thinking DRS will handle everything. Well, DRS doesnt seem to be preventing framerate drops.

Ah haha got ya, makes sense, wonder if they patched in DS features, that makes a big difference to me. Shame really we have to pick and choose. when it comes down to it would probably stick with PS5.

Microsoft isn't an evil publisher who puts guns to developers heads.
I never said they were evil, but these mandates have existed before. AC Unity devs have gone on record saying they wanted parity. I can promise you that the xsx version of MLB The Show will not be better than the PS5 version in any way. Resolution or framerate. It doesnt make Sony evil. Just that they have a mandate.

Anyway, this clip shows that the framerate is dropping to 52 and staying there for a while despite DRS dropping to 1440p or below. Clearly the xsx is not able to hit 1440p 60 fps here so the lower bound is probably somewhere in the 1080p 60 fps range despite it being marketed as a native 4k 60 fps mode.
