Vaccinated! Woo!

Also don’t watch the latest episode of Real Sports or look at the news coming out of Michigan unless you want to be bummed out. Young, extremely healthy people going on ventilators, even small children. These variants will be no joke, need 100% inoculation 🙏

Any sources for this? Thanks.

Aight so got a first hand real world vaccine trial and this shit works guys. Have a close lady friend who got the moderna second shot and it has been past the 14 day period for it to kick in or whatever. Got exposed by someone at a dinner for well over an hour. Did not contract the disease. Amazing.

Anecdotal evidence here but my office just want back to having mandatory in office schedules. Instead of wfh and come in whenever people are now having to come in at least twice a week. I never thought I would be so happy to be forced to go into the office.

Internationally all offices are scheduled to be on the same page by Fall. Fingers cross this is the start of the end of all this.

It is curious to see how the russian Gameleya Institute/Sputnik vaccine operates their twitter.

Yesterday after the Brazilian FDA/ ANVISA in a technical presentation proved that their vaccine is contaminated with adenovirus, their Twitter went full guns blazing calling for a debate with the Anvisa technicians on a investigation that the congress is doing about the epidemic. When Anvisa agreed with the debate, the Russians threated to prosecute Anvisa.

Good luck with that.

i've seen different reactions about going back to the office. it seems people who have their own dedicated office just for working at home are less happy about going back than people who, for example, do their work in their dining room or kitchen table. unfortunately for me i still had to go to work every day so i'm kinda envious of WFH peeps

I admit I didn't watch the video yet, but is it possible that they are simply getting their massive wave now, similar to the one that (as an example) Southern California got going into the holidays of 2020? With their population and population density, maybe that changes things?
summarize from reddit:

Contributing factors:
  • government-promoted homeopathic "treaments" and anti-science sentiment in general by the government with a nationalistic character.
  • cult-of-personality around a politician (PM?) who declared COVID "beaten" in march, detractors are attacked for being political opponents like Trump supporters attacked opponents.
  • religious festivals (e.g. biggest gathering of people in the world, once every 12 years) proceeding without any measures to prevent spread
  • after the steep drop in diagnoses in February people attributed it to elements of Indian culture (diet, genetics, etc) or unscientific theories (quackery, confusing correlation and causation), and became complacent.
Bottom line: people are dying because the demand of IC beds exceeds the supply. The deficit between supply and demand will continue to rise, perhaps for months to come.
---
Apparently there´s right now a congregation happening in an area (sry, forgot the name of the event), that might spark, provoke an even bigger catastrophe. :/

The Dr. in the clip says, that they´re overrun, ill people have to share beds etc.

Yeah they weren't fucking around when they said the new normal. There is no going back to how it was before. Our company has completely restructured everything and plans a more flexible "hoteling" method while people go into the office. Overall it is good because we are saving millions on real estate space that we have been able to give back.

They are still ironing out the details but many of the people who used to be forced to come into the office might never have to. I think they are leaning towards the people that do have to come in to only be in office 2-3 days a week. It is kind of exciting to see how this is going to work out.

Yeah its been a blessing and a curse. I have been in that lucky category were it was mostly WFH but still had to go in from time to time to check physical infrastructure. I work with people that have not been downtown in a city since this all broke out who seem terrified of things going back to normal at all. This whole thing has effected people in so many ways and I think it has done a number on some mentally.

So, about that Indian thing, B.1.617, info from a friend of mine.

Has 13 mutations compared to the vanilla form Wuhan.
3 of them in spikes:

1. E484Q - I was told, it was no big deal by someone I rather trust on the subj (failing to grasp why, sorry, dude was too tired to interrogate)
2. L452R - Californian version has this, seems to make virus a bit tougher to neutralize
3. P681R - have been detected multiple times in various places, is not known to cause any effect

At this point it isn't even clear if B 1.617 is the main variant spreading in India, could well be, say, UK variant.

Cambodia had a death toll of zero until 2 months ago. Then deaths kept going up.

I don't believe they had 0 deaths until Feb 2021. Their 3rd world healthcare system is terrible. Something fishy here.

I was in Cambodia in March 2020 in Siem Reap and no one was social distancing or masking. In fact I left on March 10 because I feared they would become one of the biggest hot spots.

Is 'That Pure Potato'
It's been about 24 hours since my Moderna shot and I am itchy like Tyrone Biggums. I'd take an antihistamine but I'm not ready to pass out yet.

Czech Republic now vaccinating 55+ citizens, situation here is improving, but it's around 2200 new cases per day (10 mil country)...and around 1000 deaths per week.

It looks like I need to make the decision if I want to remain 100% remote for work once my state fully opens, or go hybrid and keep an office on-site. What strange times we now live in.

My city vaccinated more people the day I got my shot than on any other day in the past: 6,600+ people. If every resident pursued a shot we (city) could be at 100% within two months.

We have an other problem here in Hungary. We will most probably run out of people who signed up for vaccination next week (also 10 mil country).

We've just passed 4 million vaccinated, and we have 4,5 million signed up. Which we should pass next week.

Registrations are growing, there are ads on every single media with celebrities and sportsmen and others promoting vaccination, but not fast enough.

We've introduced the "vaccinated card" system, where you can only go to places if you have at least the first shot (inside of pubs, hotels, spas etc) maybe that'll have a greater effect on registrations in the coming days.

Currently we have enough vaccines ready and waiting to reach heard immunity but the fucking stupid people don't bother.

It is exciting to see how the world comes back from this. Many of the traditions that we had will forever be changed. None of companies that I know of are pushing for 100% work in office, it seems to be mostly hybrid.

I really hope that the idea of spending 40 hrs a week in a office never comes back.

After 26 years of working for the same company COVID finally forced them to shut down ANY office work for my department (software dev).
They saw the savings of not having to pay for office space (and how a significant portion of network infrastructure now becomes a cost and support issue for their workers instead of having an IT dept) so it was an easy choice for them to choose to close the office.

I don't like that I'm not compensated at all for having to pay for all network stuff (internet/switches/upgrades) out of my own pocket I'm still willing to do it so I don't have to go suffer in a shitty cube farm surrounded by people.

My point being, most of downtown here has fundamentally changed, there is TONS of empty office space now and the city is struggling with what to do with it all. There is talks into turning some office towers into affordable living but I'm not sure the management companies want to go down that sort of path. They might not have much choice anymore.

Same here. My city is struggling but I am optimistic with the changes that can be made. I feel all cities have changed and the ones that work with it will see a massive rebound.

I think certain states that never closed down will feel very little reason to change the way they were doing things. The cities effected will move forward with different work protocols creating a drive for more people wanting to work for them because they offer some form of remote work.

A Hiring Manager I know cannot find anyone for their current opening because it is company protocol for all people to work in office. Like they have not received a single applicant and the position has been open for weeks.

Which is nuts to me, I guess I'm isolated in my thinking but unless your work demands constant interaction I really don't see the need for that anymore.
I am reminded for this ANCIENT cartoon I saw when my company first started floating the idea of working from home.

How many people are tested each day?

Here in Sweden (also 10 million) we have had around 7000 daily cases during weekdays for a very long time but deaths have been a constant 100 a week since late January.
I think we are up to more than 300k tests each week.

I hope it turns around fast for you.

~18 000/day. I mean we were the worst in the world few weeks back with infected and with deaths/per capita. And that was the time I got it too. Horrible shit.

I sound like a broken record here but are you guys seeing India?? Why is the USA not banning flights what are we waiting for? The rest of the world is starting to figure out what's up and we're just sitting here looking stupid as always going "nope let em all in hehe let's destroy all the progress we've made. Oh they broke another global record for cases like 7 days in a row? Cool fly em on in :)"

Like what the actual fuck where is the outrage over this. We're just starting to look like we can get to Israel's level of eradication in the coming months and this threatens that.

Just history repeating itself. It's not only the US either.

The worst thing about it is that many countries are now starting to really open up again.

Not even worth thinking or stressing about it anymore, what will be will be.

Me and the wife (and probably at least one of the kids) had it late January. Was pretty mild flu-like for us though.

Not that bad testing degree so hopefully your deaths follow the cases in a decline soon also.

It fall from like 3000/week so it's getting better. Anyway, for me was serious, ended up in hospital, but I am also on imuno suppressants.

My company is expecting 50% of people to work from home, 30% to be hybrid and 20% to be in office. The company was saving 500k per month in utilities last year by having the building shut down. We got rid of half of our commercial real estate space.

I have zero desire to be in office full time. My productivity is way up and my QOL is better too. My plan is to eventually go back 2 days a week, mostly because I think it is good for me to get out of my house some, but my whole team will be working from home permanently so I may end up doing the same by 2022.

I couldn't say it any better. Getting out a couple of days does help you mentally and its good to interact with others in person. I wouldn't be against working from home full time though lol.

Just saw they were shutting down flights from India starting next week. That feels...too late? Last year while half the country was up in arms over flights from China getting restricted I was wondering why the hell we weren't doing the same to the rest of the world. We're so damn close to beating this and now we just kicked the door wide open again.

Well we're shutting it very soon. I think it was a very smart move that will probably avert any major catastrophe. So good job USA. Better late than never I guess.

Papers, please.
That's disgusting.

There is some pushback against it with people saying "muh rightZ" and "muh freedomZ".

But fuck them and fuck every anti-vaxxer frankly. Getting people vaccinated as fast as we can, or at least getting to herd immunity as fast as we can is in everyones best interest.

If I were the government I would make the shot mandatory and this fucking covid hell would end next week.

I'm fully vaccinated but I don't think we need to be putting special armbands on the non-vaccinated and making them sub human like many want to.
