Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X|S - An Excellent Port Of An Ultra-Spec PC Experience | DF

Banjo64

cumsessed
XSS resolution: native 1080p, no upscaling.

Interestingly the X has frame-rate issues entering large cities but the S is practically locked.

Definitely can notice the hitching on Series X at times. There are occasional ~4 second freezes at times too, presumably from asset streaming despite my high internet speeds. Hope Asobo irons it out because this game is jawdropping and a technical masterpiece.

Series S tho!! Perfect performance in this game is wild. At a native 1080p too

I fear for the life of my Series X. The amount of heat it gives off playing this game is insane. And yet still makes zero noise. I wish my PS5 could do that.
If you had X1X, playing something like Gears 5 made it that you cannot hold a hand on that, this is really not like that.

Jaw dropping game. Played for a few hours after work. Found my house and flew around over the Nomandy landing beaches. Can't wait to spend more time on this over the weekend. Stellar port for sure, don't let the few hitches when entering large cities hold you back, there's a whole world to explore!!!

Edit: Series X on an LG CX.

I doubt it's 120, I'd bet my balls that's it's duplicating frames so it would half of the refresh rate. Still impressive, this is a game that, on Ultra even at 1440p, you are not going to be getting constant 60 in any GPU/CPU combo on the market.

LFC only kicks in when the FPS drops below 40FPS as far as I know. Hence the spikes you see over cities, that Everest scene is almost 120FPS, because its not a very demanding part of the game.

Wow... That's scary. The Series S has the same heat as playing any other game and zero noise.

I was afraid that the Series S would be louder and hotter running real next gen titles, but so far I am extremely impressed.

Playing State of Decay 2 or Flight Simulator on it is the same thing, 0 noise and just a little warm above the fan.

The TV's LFC does, but I bet the engine is sending the same frame twice.

I think it is good decision to scarify resolution for ultra settings. More devs should settle for 1440P. SS performance is also expected at medium settings.

no the Xbox will double every frame of a 60hz title. this means if you run at 120hz and the game targets 60hz, the system will display every frame twice.

it does that with every game. you can test it if you have a VRR TV with a build in hz display.

for example if I play Watch Dogs in 120hz and in 60fps mode my TV spits out 120hz, if frames drop below 60fps, let's say to 58fps, my TV will then run at 116hz because the Xbox doubles every frame

this also will effectively lower the lower bounds of your VRR window. if your TV can only go down to 48hz for example like many hdmi2.0 TVs then this lowers the lower fps limit to 24fps

First windows store update was only 600 mb and I was all “praise Jesus!” And then I started the game, and it said I still needed a 23 gb update out of 123 gb free space. I went to download it and now it’s downloading 123 gb 🤔 I had to uninstall kingdom come deliverance.

Game looks great...I'm absolutely terrible at it though. The sticks feel too sensitive for the precise adjustments the training wants me to make in the plane. I think I should maybe just download this on PC and play it there. I lowered the sensitivity on the X and Y axis to -75 percent...I still can't keep the Cessna steady enough to satisfy this frickin anal trainer.

1440p should be right on the high end, drop short on 4k 60 though.

The stutters that appear look reminiscent of the stutter issues some people have on PC when not making use of the manual cache option while using max settings. I'd guess the issue doesn't manifest itself on the Series S because the data that is being downloaded and streamed in won't be as big in file size.

They should try creating a high quality setting cache (if it's an option on console) and then going over the same areas. If it's the same as on PC it should result in the stutters mostly being ironed out.

We were talking about it in the official thread - but it seems some of the training missions are bugged. The plane will pull down to the right when its not suppossed to meaning you are having to fight that pull while trying to keep level. It only happens in certain missions.

A Plague Tale: Innocence did none of that. With a 120Hz TV, FPS is unlocked over 60FPS and reported as such.

Lol. Soft pulls and pushes mate. It does work. Even with the standard settings. But you don't need to successfully complete the trainng to become competent with the controls. Once you've got the gist of it feel free to go practice in the world map or arround the attractions (forgot how that activity is called). You won't be asked to fly at exactly 6000 feet or 2500 knots like in training.

EXACTLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I just kinda chalked it up to, ok guess the winds coming pretty hard out of the west. So it's a bug? That's insane.

Dude, thank God. I was getting so triggered...she kept saying "Uh, Maybe you should practice this more". Look ok I get it, I don't wanna crash, crashing almost certainly means death...but ma'am we are 6000 feet above ground, how likely is it that I crash if I don't keep this red squiggly line exactly on the horizon to level out?

well that's true but like I said if a game is targeting 60hz the Xbox will double that to fill a 120hz signal.

the unlocked mode in Plague Tale was most likely an oversight to begin with

Reminds me of the bug at launch when the plane would always pull to the right, I had to go in and adjust the dead zones to fix it (Xbox one pad)

Guess, we have to wait for NGX to do a proper analysis.
No mentioning of raytracing, missing details etc.

Alex "as good as on the PC (Ultra)"

hH2Xxvq.png

No clue why your post cant be quoted. The XSS version is also "very close to ultra settings" like with the XSX copy. But due even lower resolution it does not look as good = thus it´s not very close at all.

XSX = 100%
XSS = only -44%

he says "very close" to ultra settings 🤡 one of those comparisons is between S and X, and the game is 1440p upscaled to 4K. Of course native 4K is going to look sharper. The overall settings do look similar to Ultra in most cases.

The circle you highlighted is an artifact of screen space reflections.. and it doesn't have Raytracing on PC anyway? So why would he mention it for Xbox?

So Series S users are getting an inferior experience. I thought they said just reducing resolution would be enough but here they are reducing settings to the point where Alex pretty much says it doesnt look next gen unless you are on High or Ultra.

That said, color me impressed. They managed to run the same game on both consoles and they made the right choice for each console. I would always take higher level of detail over higher resolution but for series s, a 720p mode with ultra settings would look way too blurry so another right decision here.

I wouldnt say series s has passed its first next gen test with flying colors but its not a complete disaster like I had anticipated. Series X running this game at 1440p ultra settings is very impressive. The 2080 does not run the game that well. or at least it didnt before their cpu optimizations.

Yeah well i'd say the fact that Series S is running this game at all is a huge achievement. And like you said, its 1440p on XSX so unless they wanted 720p. or even lower, on S then they made a decision to run at a higher resolution with some lower settings.
The right thing to do imo.

i agree

i dont see any "gen" defining differences between the two tbh. as a matter of fact, lower draw distance settings helped series s push a more stable fps. both consoles have practically the same cpu, only like 100 200 mhz or so difference. i don't see why they went so overboard with sx. there's no cpu disparity between these two consoles to be able to push that much draw distance on sx than series s

series s benefits from more tailored, better optimized settings and pushes a locked native 1080p. if sx had the same, it would push a beatiful, clear looking native 4k...

the framerate is not perfect
1627483265-xbouze.jpg

they will have to fixe that
Framerate will never be fixed due to sheer scale and size of thegame. It drops hard randomly on PC as well depending upon locations.

Network issues or unstable connections can cause dips as well while it loading data through cloud.

In Offline mode you will get stable fps for flying but you will lose everything else. :p

baaahahahahaha rofl

19 ad 20 fps and delusional fanboys with "VRR" is helping me ...

I been gaming since 80s... 19 to 20 fps is fucking 19.. 20 fps

I was expecting 1440p 30 fps locked...

I have never heard my PS5 make any noise, guess you are unlucky. It doesn't give off as much heat as my Series X either.
