Maybe the game is better than expected and they are doing the "under the radar underdog" marketing strategy to have increasing sales over time... Maybe the game is indie turd and nobody wants to touch it.

We'll find out soon.

All the marketing budget is going to PC....

and mobile Wipeout.

That is what really makes the money for PlayStation, that is why PS is so popular you see!

Next they are starting PlayStation ASMR streams on Amazons Twitch!

They saw Amouranth was making money there and want some of that ear-licking, butt-cheek money!

Great games die because of marketing and Sony is expert in that. The opposition is true as awful games sell well because of marketing.
If you are talking about Death loop, death loop was a bit excessive even for sony. Sony usually don't show too much in their first 2 trailers of their games so that the fans stay hyped. And then when it is close to launch they do a bit marketing intended for those who are still not interested yet. Forbidden west is a recent example, but Death loop marketing was overkill.

It was a mistake for the maker's of Kena not to release a physical version at launch. It sends a message that the game isn't worthy of one.

Expecting high 70s for this and nothing more. But it looks fun and is only £30 so I'll pick it up.

Same....

76-80 tops.

I think the aesthetic is beautiful and gameplay looks fun from what I saw but the gaming media is full of Zelda fanboys and girls and they don't want anything to touch that.... we saw that with some of the more harsh reviews Horizon got.

Not saying it's a 90+ game but I want to point out this element of game-review culture where Nintendo games are given massive benefits and others get automatically undermined.

It's an indie game. I think the graphical quality has tricked some people into thinking it's more than it is. Most indie games don't get a big marketing budget.

I fully expect a short 7/10 game which is totally fine with me for something that looks so pleasing.
This is likely. I think people are used to indies being these 2d games and when you get one that doesn’t look like shit people assume it’s a first party game which is evidenced by some posts here.

I think it will be a good game but not mind blowing. That being that it got me with how pretty it is so long as it doesn’t get bad reviews.

From what I've seen from last few gameplay trailers, the animations seem so janky, with long boring walking segments. Also the graphics look downgraded from its initial reveal. No wonder they have gone so silent, they hyped it way too much at the beginning when it was just an indie game. Not saying it would be a bad game, probably okay like Biomutant, but nowhere near RnC or Sony first party quality as people were hyping it to be

That's true but it also happens to Rockstar, Kojima and the most expensive Sony first party games. Looking forward to this game, hopefully it was not downgraded.

Agree with R*.

Kojima got away with a lot when under Konami but not after..

I disagree with Sony..... Days Gone got hammered, Ghost got lower than deserved scores first time around.... Sackboy and Astro got lower than deserved too IMO. Knack got destroyed.

Certain Sony games.... TLOU for instance got some passes due to the politics it was pushing IMO.

The rest...nah. Nothing got passes on the level of Halo 4 and 5.... where IGN and Gamespot gave 9's and 9.5's and later said they were underwhelming in podcasts.

Maybe they should release a 5s "trailer" on a playstation store app ? And some "mysterious" tweets about how they have no relationship with Kojima or Konami.

Things I learned from this thread:

It's an indie game.
It's an indie game.
There's a scary bridge in Kena.
It's an indie game.
Returnal has some boss ass hentai monster physics.
Deathloop is a thing, despite my never having heard of it before.
It's an indie game.
It's not a first party game.
It's an indie game.

Once he gets the PlayStation profits as high as possible he will jump to another company.

Or his pension is tied to profits and he wants that golden parachute to be as big as possible.

He probably has a cushy retirement number already lined up for the double income.

We all know how these people operate.

He does not appear to have a long term strategy for PlayStation at least not a well thought out one.

It's all over the place.... half-assed mobile games (despite sony music doing a proper mobile game), half-assed PC (after selling SOE, dedicated PC development), half-assed cloud / subscription service.....

And less dedication and attention to console gaming, where they made their bones, have loads of expertise and customer loyalty.

They shoulda just bought a publisher and a few studios and made a way to make the consoles and games affordable for people in countries like Brazil etc.
Got backwards compatibility working or bought a studio to port everything to PS5.

Do people want TV spots or something for an indie game? It’s plastered all over the PS5 store, it’s gotten many trailers on the official PlayStation YouTube account, many write ups on the PlayStation Blog, a bunch of tweets from Sony, had glowing previews a few months ago, and was showcased by Sony for its reveal.

What other indie is getting this kind of treatment besides Sifu and Stray from Sony, and why do we expect so much advertising for this game?? Sony will advertise Stray and Sifu the same way regardless of how good they are. These concern threads are getting tiresome.

560K in 2 months.

That’s successful according to Sony based on the budget and how many PS5’s were even available at launch (only a few million). Sony wouldn’t have released them if they thought they were disappointing as they are under no obligation to announce that stuff.

i think you’re assuming it also came out for PS4 cause a new IP from a smaller studio as a launch game could do so much worse prices at $70.
