Hahaha. I faintly remember that story. I didn't remember it was Nepenthe. I do remember it was a simple economy car too. The amount of interested paid after the term will probably be as much as the car itself. lol

Last car loan I got was 1.9%.

Ya, 20% doesn't even seem legal. That's credit card territory. The first car loan I got like 20 years ago for a Honda Civic (when interest rates were way higher than recent years was I think about 5% from my bank as the car lot was higher).

My Aunt paid 9-10% while still under a bankruptcy with near poverty level income. 20% had to be a loanshark in the backroom of an illegal gambling den.

just you reminder that the only reason why nepenthe is a mod is because the community dug up racist posts about bdubs so as penance he made her a mod

that’s why you have someone like that in that position

LOL is that really true? What'd he say, and why/how do they pick and choose who to crucify?

I have no idea about reset era and how it came into existence. But it's very clear the owner played the staff and members. The least he should do is give every mod a good sum of amount. It's only fair that way considering they were there for him when he needed them.

Nepenthe still trying to pressure people into donating. It's like a bum following you the entire block shaking his tin cup.

The reason why almost everyone doesn't want to pay you is because you should had got Cerium (or now the new place) to pay you. But the grift is now aimed at users because deep down no owner is going to pay you a nickel at Reee.

I think the owner should give the mods at least something. Yes mods are volunteers, but as you get this massive cheque maybe at least 1% to the people that helped? It's optional anyway, from a moral point of view.

I saw a few perma bans in that topic. Can anyone tell me without joking if there will be another exodus? I know they won't come here, but I do hope they do not go to gamefaqs instead because those boards are already getting bad enough with resetera types.

It could happen when the new owners start altering the rules/making the forum less woke and if some more mods quit.

Haha the mods going from "of course we do it for free!" to "pls donate!" is just beautiful.

Once Reeeee is gone, how are they going to distract themselves from their miserable little lives? No more banning thousands of people a week with absolutely insane reasons.

Nepenthe changed tune (see above).

What happened is many Reee users were calling out the grifting the past 3 hours when the donation link got up and running.

And I bet some mods PM'ed him/her/whatever saying what the fuck are you doing leaching out like this tonight.

So got pressured to retract it and make it a PR move by donating it to Brazil.

Wow they are ripping each other apart on that post. Hilarious actually. Entertaining honestly. Just hate that I'm giving them ad revenue. And the fact they have full page ads taking over my screen is disgusting.

So glad for Gaf.

From a moral point of view is it the right thing to do? Sure. However, they already signed up for free so the owner does not owe them shit. I met a girl years ago at my college to help me out as an assistant for wedding videography. She volunteered to work for free and I told her that I don't believe in making people work for free. After the shoot, I told her not to let people take advantage of her because there are plenty of people who will use film students for free labor.

I'm sure the receipts will be posted for how much actually went to Brazil, as well.

Love it.

Best thing to do is just let users post, vent, congratulate etc.... and leave it at that for the day.

But some of the mods joined in as they cant help but respond. And the more they respond, the dumber it gets (Nepenthe). I bet some of the other mods are hoping he/she shuts up for the night, but Nep keeps on chugging.

Isn't it nice to have an active, dedicated gaming forum where we can talk about games without have to put up with all of these demented freaks?

Seeing this brings me a sense of comfort every time I log in:

The Politics forum has been nuked. Please do not bring political discussion to the rest of the site, or you will be removed. Thanks.

Agreed. There is no legal obligation for the owner to pay the mods. But you can argue there is a moral one. If some mods are feeling short-changed, they should take it up with the owners, and the members can support if necessary. But here, the mods seem to be fine with no compensation. So then logically, members should respect the decision and let things be. Instead there is now a lot of tension between the mods and the members which I honestly don't get at all.

That's so true, mate. I'm starting a small production company myself and I never bring someone to help me without getting paid, unless the work itself is not paid to begin with. Overall, I'd rather be a one-man crew than feeling the guilt of bringing someone to work with me for free, unless he/she is looking at it as a learning process.

Last time asked a 5-star hotel to pay for sponsorship, but they said we don't pay at all we only provide free stay and you can use all services here, thanks to social media freaks. My answer was very simple: I'm not stupid to give you near-free ad for your hotel in my documentary film that I'm working on. Now I don't need sponsors as another company paid for the lens that I was urgently needing and would put its name on sport videos, so I kept the documentary clean from sponsorship = higher selling price for channels.

Being strict while still a beginner company is now potentially bringing me an ad with a pricetag beyond my expectations. It's all about when and why you work/do things for free.

Sorry for the long post as you really brought out a situation I'm going through. Warm regards.:lollipop_raising_hand:

I haven’t posted here since the beginning of the year as I needed to shake the addiction, but this thread has provided me so many laughs that the only reasonable course of action was to go NeoGAF Gold.

I can’t believe the most cynical theories about Era turned out to be true, just too funny 🤣

Cynical theories? It was a foregone conclusion. What did you expect was going to happen to all the income? If it didn't go to a single owner, it would have gone to a small clique. There was no reality where a group of wacko strangers could agree to donate that amount of money to unknown causes. Even if the inner circle of founders had made that claim, 90% of it would have been hidden or skimmed off the top and this would be a topic about founder X or Y stealing from or Hollywood Accounting the REEEE charity funds.

Baha to be fair though, the Politics section was very entertaining.

It just got less so after the recent election where everything went tits up into full blown mass hysteria.

I was low key sad when it got nuked, but it was for the better.

Hahaha. Nepenthe now claims all the donations will now shift to a charitable donation to Brazil.

Holy shit

I ultimately wanted to give it to my friends of BrazilEra. They've been so kind and patient with me as I try (and hilariously fail) to learn Portuguese and understand life in their country, but I was quickly ignored and ultimately turned to charity (my second idea).
Even the people she "wanted" to help didn't want her to help 😂

Sometimes it's necessary. If you get an interview with a big production company and they want to see what you got on a live shoot then don't expect pay. They want to see what you got before they officially hire you. However, don't let people string you along for free labor and "paid exposure". I decided to do a promotional shoot for some guy's company for free because I already met him before. Figured it would be a good learning experience. Turns out, they liked my work so much they want me to be their head cinematographer for their first indy movie. I asked how much and he said a 3-month intense shoot for free. I respectfully told him I couldn't afford my bills without pay for 3-months and moved on.

I'm sorry if this has been explained earlier, but why exactly are members clamouring for moderators to be paid now? Seems like the mods themselves are perfectly fine treating it as a volunteer no-pay job. I don't get it.

They didn't realize the owner had been making six figures a year all along and now that they see the sell price, and being the champions of social justice they are, their brains short-circuited when they combined this information with unpaid mods.

Man, I didn't expect that ending when read (liked my work so much). In my case I filmed a documentary about Dhofari (our region) old architecture and a CEO of a company loved it a lot. Now he put me on the administrative board as head of media and agriculture (in my country I'm well-known as a naturalist on Oman TV) and first ad of the company would be around 5-10K OMR ($13-26K) to be done within 6 months! And that wouldn't be the only one according to him, turns out that most of the board are fans of my little documentaries I've been doing on TV despite being a beginner in filmmaking and ads.

Working on English subtitles and full-English voice over within a week

That film happens to be inside the very big project that they're working on! More about the project (they're trying to snatch a chunk of it from another competing company, ASAAS):

5 days ago, I only had less than $10 left. Sometimes you just get lucky when you're passionate about your business and love what you're doing. Hope things go as planned and hope things to turn out great to you and all our friends in this forum. I believe you turning down that was a smart call, but it's critical to not burn bridges as they might discuss and comeback with a satisfying offer.

When the dust settles and the whole buy out is old news, I cant wait for that forum to focus full attention on the buyers. For a site so keen on being saviours and ethical, the site they will be posting on has this as their parent company corporate strategy.

1. MOBA/GAAS games
2. MOBA Network even says in their Investors Relations link their revenue model is "rich media and premium ads"
3. The CEO is board of director on gambling sites
