I read that Nephente 5000 word post--or what I could; a lot of it's unreadable--and one thing that stuck out was that the mods were discussing the banning of all Harry Potter references because of Rowling's politics. I don't like Rowling's anti-trans stuff, but banning the art because of the artist's private views is just horrible. Call me crazy, but you should be able to reference works of art, even problematic art, in a free society.

*I'm using "art" in the broadest possible sense.

**As someone who got permanently banned on Era for saying I support the idea of civil liberties, I'm fully aware that their mods and a big part of their community are actively opposed to a free society.
Rowling is a hardcore liberal and not a hater of trans people. She's just anti trans taking away women's rights.

It sure is...
"Disqualifying a person's opinions because they happen to be a different color / sex / orientation than you is lame"

To think that any of the timid crap this guy said is actually controversial on REE. He has to take baby steps condemning obvious racism. We're not even up to the level of argument in the 1960s yet.

I've lost count. How many of these games are considered problematic or problematic-adjacent. Oh, and I mustn't forget, which ones have a history of having a history?

Now I see where the money came from to buy Era.

Moba 100% plans to spam their other websites in hopes that Era's user base will engage in that content. This won't be a ad-blockable thing, as it will be baked into the Era experience.

Lol, and so it begins.
I haven't reread all my messages but I have been using the voice recognition as I'm a little lazy on typing that much but it is my words doing my best to articulate. Trust me when I tell you I have been here long enough lurking or gone and occasionally checking back without participating to have the resounding opinion that I do. This is coming from over 15 years of membership and that was even before I could join since I learned for almost as long as the forum has been up.
Just remember, we’re watching you.

I appreciate that. I came back here for the camaraderie at the end of the day.
I’m not trying to deny or joke about anything of what you said but to be far maybe it is because English is not my native language and I really not understand most of what you wrote 😢 I re-read it several times.

I hope you are good and wishes the best for you whatever forum you are.
As I said in the first quote in this post probably has something to do with the fact that I use the voice recognition but let me clarify and say that I am very much in line with what this form stands for and I'm glad to generally see that it really hasn't deviated too much while also taking proactive steps to improve.

This is why I even messaged Evilore before even posting again and committing myself because I was very clear on the type of poster that I am and in general I would like to feel welcome the community that I posted. As I stated earlier in the thread I do not post in 5 or 10 different places. I am a predominantly one place contributor and it's been like that since the videogames.co (predating that gamespot.com transition), GamaFAQ's pre shit hole days lol, and as I said before I went on to lurk here pretty damn well soon after the reestablishment of the gaming age days.

And to be honest with you I do like reminiscing about that because much like my favorite childhood video games or movies, those beautiful days of the early growth of the internet in the mid-90s quite the special time especially considering how the world is now.

I'm not too familiar with the MOBA company that bought them out, but my take it on it is that if they try to undo the "community" ResetEra has in favor of something more mainstream, they may not succeed in bringing in new people because either the site's current reputation is too ingrained, or because people would rather go to a forum like NeoGAF than something corporate-owned. I'm not really all that certain how they can make it "grow" again unless they're willing to do an ad campaign the likes of which they themselves want companies to buy space for on the site.

I don't think they'll undo anything is what I'm saying; some people are leaving right now.. and they are anti-capitalist nerds for the most part, many of them probably the obnoxious way too woke types in general.

It won't be as significant of an "exodus" as most people think IMO and the site will continue to generate a profit.

Indeed. If they can keep spouting their hateful bullshit there, most will just stay. They have no real morals, only hate. And if MOBA wants to profit off of these monkeys, they will not get in their way too much. Probably for the best, better keep them contained.

I don't think it's the end, either, necessarily, but it's another chink (not using a pejorative, don't ban me plzzzz) in the holy armor of the fortress, and it's so, so gratifying to watch. It's like Jenga, maybe not this block, but one of them is gonna knock the whole structure down.

This is your future B-Dubs. This is what you will need to improve to make Daddy Bjorn happy. And you do want to keep Daddy happy.

I am curious why the acquisition paid by cash-on-hand rather than through a loan. That took most of their cash-on-hand. I guess I will have to wait until the next earnings report in Nov.

Just started skimming their thread again now. Royalan, KJack and BDubs on fire today defending no pay mods and being accused of being racist themselves.

Great times!

And due to the fact that thread has to be left open so everyone can vent, as long as the posters dont go overboard (ban worthy), the discussions keep going as it'll look bad if they lock the thread or go on a ban trip.

For all of you with Reeee accounts there, keep it up! Dont let their multipage Tag Party last night derail the topic. lol

Anything is ad-blockable.
Product placement in streamers webcam shot is not ad-blockable. They are going all-in on those types of ads. Watch that earnings report Bjorn gave to get an idea of what I am referring to. He specifically mentioned energy drinks as a potential.

Banning any discussion because its creator is a POS of a human being is stupid and it doesn't solve any problem, you're just tossing the dirt under the carpet.

Nerds... find a way.

If it's an overlay is even easier.

You better believe Blizzard and other big games won't be barred from discussion on Era to drive traffic:

~12 mins in. Collect money from people volunteering their work.

Bjorn: Hey Riot, Activision, Valve, we just bought Resetera. Any of you want one of your employees to be a mod here?

Game studios: Sure. But what about the existing mods?

Bjorn: Meaningless. One guy's big idea on the board last night was giving out Tags

Game studios: Done. Give us a couple weeks. We'll send you over details about our designated employees. As well as graphic assets you can plaster all over the site to promote our games

Bjorn: And don't worry about current mods being as issue when we gas them

Game studios: Why not?

Bjorn: They aren't paid. There's zero legal issues or severance pay involved. We can kick them out tomorrow if we wanted to with zero repercussions

Game studios: So the site was cashed out by a guy getting $4.5M and none of them were paid? Wow. That's even better than what we could pull off!

I have no idea what that is. Funny story (not really) is I didn't eat an actual kiwi till I was like 35. They are pretty incredible actually. We make kiwi "chips" in our ninja dehydrator and they are awesome.
Kiwi do all the good digging

They are the ones who dug up cerium’s homophobic past

they dug up bdubbs racist posts from gaf

and I think they outed a few pedos lurking on reee also which the kids just brushed under the rug

Creator 1 was made to specifically target sponsored creator content. Not sure if this means they want to pay YouTubers to mentioned their websites?

A good summary of what the presentation has been so far (~15 mins in)

I don’t know how they think they are going to get away with promoting blizzard stuff on resetera

the second they start posting stream links or promoting their other sites content it’s gonna get bombed

It is a ticking time bomb. Moba has no clue what they just spent millions on.

I think I understood a bit better now… thanks for the reply… we are in the same page. I’m a reminiscing of that early-mid 90s too after all I’m just months from reach 40 year old (7 months to be fair).
