The problem with era isnt just the mods. It's mostly the users. The mods came from the users after all. They are all a bunch of toxic hateful bigots themselves. I remember when Etika committed suicide, a mod said something along the lines of good riddance. The users forced him to resign, but the same assholes were the ones who had mocked his mental illness and clear mental breakdowns. That kind of targeted harassment probably led to his suicide. All because he used homophobic slurs during his mental breakdown. No sympathy. No compassion. No lets label him homophobic and harass him until he kills himself.

They did the same with Dave Chappele's trans friend who killed herself after she defended trans joke Chapelle had made. They also had a black gay mod resign because he dared to say that asexual people have not experienced the kind of racism and homophobic discrimination black and gay people have.

They dont care if you are black or trans or suicidal, they will turn on you and treat you worse than fucking terrorists and Nazis.

Agreed. The stuff happening now is dumb, but it pales in comparison to the things I've seen there in the last year or so (demanding an actor be fired because they go to church, wanting to put minors in adult prison for saying racist stuff, "the Soviet Union was good, actually" trutherism). If you're talking about putting a legal minor in adult prison for life for wearing a Trump shirt and it doesn't get moderated (this is an actual example, not hypothetical), then I don't want to hear anything about your commitment to human rights. And wanting to eliminate churchgoers from the employment pool or the public eye (again, real example) is "purify the society" bullshit.

This is truer than you think. The Etika suicide thread had hundreds of users post their experience of getting bullied on era, and nearly all of them said they were suffering from some form of depression and had suicidal thoughts. It was eye opening to see a forum that takes such a hard stance on transphobia, homophobia and racism completely fail to protect its most vulnerable. Everyone except for a select few lives in a state of constant fear on that board. Constantly looking over their shoulders and the mods exploited that by rewarding snitches who mass reported and targeted anyone they didnt like. They had Discord groups where they would organize mass reporting knowing mods would never do their due diligence and ban based on prior infractions and number of reports.

Just curious - how old are you?

I’m 42 and have learned to stay away from the herds, especially when formed during such circumstances they did here. Too many did not want to wait and get all the evidence on the table. It was just chaos - and that’s what got me super suspicious. Never take rash decisions until the first smoke has cleared is my life experience.

Following the herd either means you are going to get milked or slaughtered.

I'm 41, but I am quite anti-social and as a result didn't have a lot of interactions in my life talking with people about those matters. My family were the typical 'gays are making fools out of themselves with the parades and the like', so when I got my first real job 20 years ago, I was in a department which was filled with women who had progressive thinking - nothing extreme, but they would frown upon some of my 'haha' remarks concerning homosexuality and would tell me that my views were backwards and obsolete, and it was the first time I questioned my upbringing and how much of an open minded person I really was.

So ever since, I guess I tried to be more open-minded to ideas and opinions concerning people who I originally found to be ... *sigh* less 'normal' than me.

I guess that was a big reason I was open to ERA's ideology. I guess reading all that talks of theirs about being a bigot and a homophobe kinda brought all that doubt back and made me question where I stand with the minorities. I didn't want to believe I was a bigot and I was quick to follow 'the herd' - even if I more or less 'stalked' the herd, since I was a lurker.

But after a while I realized this wasn't true equality. Equality means listening to everyone, as long as you're not a scumbag about it. When people were accused of being asses simply for stating a different opinion, I realized I was on the wrong side - no scratch that, I realized that ERA THEMSELVES were never on that side to begin with.

I see it quite often, might be why people don't realize you aren't supposed to use it.

we still should be trying to adhere to basic decency. I am part of threads from over 20 years ago. And multiple motorcycle threads with average users being in their 50+ and they say some old out dated jokes, jargon but don’t post porno, dildo pics, racial slurs. Because regular human decency should be an automatic.
That’s how you run a long lasting forum. Your trying to get new people not run off or show how Immature you are.

Even the Honda Facebook groups are cordial. Because we talk about something we love, and also advice for riding/fixing can and could save someone’s life.

Literally had this happen on someone who was curious on new clutch/brake levers. They didn’t take the advice serious bought shitty knockoff levers found on eBay/Amazon and literally got in a bad wreck. They were ok thank god, but their bike is trashed? They came back and were pissed and people put the blame on them. But later a couple of us including long standing admin examined thread, saw how info/discussion was not taken serious by poster who was asking because of all the dumb troll posts.

There’s trolling for fun, but still got to be responsible for what you post and what you say. That’s basic human edicate/decency.

All I know is that EviLore and staff provide a service, which I use and extract value, which is how nearly everything else on Earth works. If we're perfectly fine with that economic paradigm when it comes to Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, McDonald's, FedEx, Chuck E Cheese, Krogers, and Big Papa's Dildo Emporium, then there's no reason why an internet forum should be the exception. He can share everything, and that would be his right. He can share nothing, and that would also be his right. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter because he's not operating the site under false pretenses of a holier-than-thou ivory tower where stated or assumed values conflicts with actions and deeds.
