I love my PS5, but this has to be the worst design ever produced

I like the PS5 design. It's meant to stand up.

I don't mind because I've always stood my consoles on their side. I had the official PS3 stand and official PS4 Pro stand. They all look so much better vertical in my opinion.

Aftermaket black panels make it look so much better

I keep mine erect, as expected of a man of my vigor. I like the aesthetics, to be honest. But that doesn't mean I think they're great. I like plenty of bad shit.

Anyway I keep it behind my TV because it's the only place that behemoth won't hog everybody's visual field.

It's kinda weird, yes, but since I hardly move it, only to clean the dust that gets under it, isn't a deal breaker.
That said it should have a way to 'lock' the stand in the horizontal position.

All I know is whatever they did my system is silent as the dead. I don’t care if I had to have a penis with the disk drive as long as it doesn’t make noise. That being said I got one of those things that let me mount it to the wall and actually looks pretty slick. There are ways to work with it.

I thought mine was completely silent for the first two months, but I think it ramps up a bit more now after a few updates, on a few games at least. It's not loud, it's the quietest console with a fan I've had, but, it went from "wow, I can't hear this at all from the couch" to being able to make it out from the couch. Anyone else in that boat?

Not really even a complaint, like I said, it's way quieter than my 360 (but of course), my PS4, my Wii U, can even hear the Switch docked sometimes, anything that wasn't fanless like an N64, but it did seem to change from dead silence like some people described to being able to hear it without trying too hard from couch distance.

Never tried a penis on it though

Except for the original PlayStation or possibly the ps2 slim, I don’t think there has ever been a great looking PlayStation. The ps5 is comically huge. Waiting for the slim revision before diving in that ecosystem.

Did you hear that OP? You aren’t allowed to critique the design of PS5 until they are widely available, and everyone who wants one can get one. Please be more sensitive.

I declare this thread null and void. Your criticism has been stricken from the record.

Huh - i never realised but it looks like one of those star trek ships no..?

Either way, the look doesnt put me off - its the fact that they had to make it so much bigger than usual.

The ps3 slim and ps4 were fantastic.

Anyway I’d agree with OP 100%. I love the system but the physical design is just garbage. They somehow managed to make it both ugly and impractical.

just why the hell would you design a console with a weirdly curved bottom that requires a wonky stand just to make it sit level?

And I thought maybe it’d be one of those things where it looks better in person. But the first thing I thought when I unboxed it was that it’s comically huge. I think I’d be more forgiving of its dopey design flourishes if it were also impressively compact (like the size of a PS2)

I think the Series X looks Gross AF horizontal but I quite like it Vertical.

PS5 looks passable in vertical but its just too god damn big. The popped collar also adds totally unnecessary height. its already too big and that doesn't help. It feels over designed to hide its size.

Yeah it's truly awful imo , the slim redesign can't come soon enough. I always lay my consoles horizontally. I'll just wait I guess , xsx is not much better in terms of its design but I'll take it over the ps5 all day.

The physical design is retarded. I have mine horizontally and it's a nuisance to get it centered on that stand. Try to connect/disconnect a cable by feel and it falls off the fuckin thing.

Also from a manufacturing and logistical perspective it is ridiculous. So many dumb bits of plastic in shapes that are (relatively) complex to manufacture. That huge-ass shipping box. I know this is Sony's problem and not mine, but still. They can easily save 50 bucks without any hardware change, just a less retarded design.

It's not great horizontally but fantastic vertically.
I really like how it looks. I am not the biggest fan of glossy plastic though

I think the design is unique and stands out, just like a PS2 or a base PS4 that you can recognize easily. Just the horizontal stand is shaky but when you put in place it stays there forever, unless you're planning to use it as a table and have dinner over it.

Imo, the design aka the look, would have been just fine if it were a bit smaller. Looking at it online was fine until I received it, it's ***ing huge!

Shape, size, color. Sony literally got everything wrong with this. Their hardware designers should be ashamed. Sony has not been good with hardware recently. The PS4 wobbled like crazy. Now this hideous disaster. Sony needs to hire some new hardware people.

Series X could at least pass as a subwoofer on the floor.

PS5, however, is outright ugly as fuck and that, plus two or three other reasons, is why I'm waiting for the slim or pro model (I can afford the luxury of waiting because my PC is very capable of playing the most recent games on high/ultra at 60fps). It's also not only its design but sheer size. It's a fucking space ship.

My issue isn't with the aesthetic as much as it is the size. This thing is enormous. I can't have it stand vertically or it blocks my TV, so I have it horizontal on the stand. Any bump and it slides off the stand It is big, chunky and clumsy on the side.

XSX is also too bulky. I wish there was a way to remove the stand when it is horizontal. It would make it look a lot better.

I'm past the point where I want flashy design. PS4 and Xbox One got it right for me with the nondescript rectangular boxes. For sure consoles are toys, but do they need to look like toys?

Said it before and will say it again. The PS4 pro is the worst designed ever. No doubt in my mind. Ps5 isn’t great by any means but functionally it’s a huge improvement over PS4 pro. Not saying much though.
Yep, PS4 Pro is awful. The wedge design at the back hides all the connectors so you have to tip it forward to see what's what but then any usb cable in the front gets bent up. The power and eject buttons are so hidden away you can't tell if you're pressing a button or just pressing the trim and you have to put the main light on to see which is which.

Also the start button on the pad is really vague.

Terrible design.

I'm surprised no one has made plates yet that turn it into a functional looking box with flat sides. I think it looks "fine" (looks worse in person than it did on reveal IMO), but you are so right about the wobbliness and general clumsiness when it's on it's side. Should have just made it a cool looking slab like PS4. Doesn't have to be the same design of course, just ... make it stable.

PS5 design is shit. Plain and simple. PS5 DE on the other hand, when standing vertically, looks quite nice.

I don't know about you, guys, but to me, Sony reached their pinacle in console design with the PS2 slim: the design language screamed "Sony" and it really looked like it was an integral part of any Sony-based entertainment system. The remote control, the color choices, the shapes... if you placed it next to a Sony receiver from that time, it looked like it was naturally a part of it. Same with Sony TVs.

I don't know why the PlayStation division diverted from the Sony design language, since its really distinctive within electronic apliances. With PS4 they tried to reintegrate the brand to that design language, and they did it... kinda ok? it followed their design, but still looked like it wasn't an integral part of an entertainment system or TV.

I actually give credit on Sonys design of the PS5, it fits in, it plays into the unique stand out game, it deserves good looking. Listen, the Switch design isn’t good, it confuses gamers. I thought the PS5 could go a lot of ways I didn’t think it would require a stand I really like the white panels. I don’t know if it will be appreciated like the PS2.

Is there a mod to change the LED lights? Or do you need to swap the LED itself?

I always thought they should reverse it with the blue for the system running, and the white for the pulsating powering up ever since the PS4.

Yeah, when I said silent I should’ve been more clear, it isn’t really silent as the dead, it’s more of me comparing it to the PS4. I can hear it slightly. Usually when I first turn on a game I can hear the difference and during disk checks. But I also have mine mounted on the wall a good 6 feet for me maybe more. So it’s probably normal For it to make some noise, it would be something I just wouldn’t notice likely.

Dbrand has a mod you can place over the original light strip
