This is months old and ignores BF sales in every country.
NPD data shows the same.

Mathematically it defies your perception, and sales charts listed since.

Thank you, then yes given the ready availability of series S and the lack of availability of Series X I can see that reported 50/50 split easily tipping to 60 for and 40 against, if not more.

I will say this seems to primarily focus on the US market where I believe a certain disconnect is coming from, as the Series S has been readily available on Amazon across Europe for many months now, rather than sold out.

What a stupid article.

”Console available in shops sells more than console completely unavailable to buy.”

Microsoft are doing extremely well to turn their ship around after the disaster of last gen, but if anybody thinks they’d be outselling the Ps5, if the Ps5 was freely available everywhere, is living in a dream world.

Until all consoles are freely available, any articles or conversations like this are fucking pointless.

The article doesn’t say the xbox series will outsell the PlayStation forever. It doesn’t say that Xbox is winning the gen.

It just reports to the general public that xbox is poised to outsell PlayStation over the holidays in the US because of the cheaper, more available SKU and critical suppy issues for the PS5 and Series X.

What’s ‘stupid’ about that? Why does such an innocuous article strike a nerve?

Problem is that kids are very picky. If they want PS5, majority of them will reject Series S.

Unfortunately most parents do that, whether you like it or not.
only shitty parents who don’t listen to thier kids (which I believe we don’t have a ton of anymore)

We got fucked as kids, so we won’t do the same to ours, this 90s Grandma looking for the the Wii does not exist anymore. (Except in some fanboys heads.)

The console has been selling all year. Much slower than the flagship consoles, but selling nonetheless and getting replenished on the shelves.
You’ll find Series S consoles readily available, but those aren’t the same consoles that were on the shelves 2 months ago.

Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart et al didn’t have the console in stock online for months before the holidays.

PS: there are many price conscious consumers who find the idea of a $299 console quite palatable. Also, PlayStation 5 owners who are looking for a secondary console. ‘Parents’ and ‘Grandmas’ aren’t the only people console hunting.

I just picked up a series X as a tertiary console...

I know the series S will sell year round it's essentially competing with the switch at that range. I just feel the almost constant "out of stock" for the big boys has had people just get a series S instead, can't blame them it's been over a year.

It threatens the dear fanbase, as they need to be the one and only gaming subject at all times.

Everything else is uncivilized.

If Series S is the majority console, its not good for both Series X and PS5 as next gen games going to be downgraded for Series S.
Why is this still an issue in the minds of some people?
Whatever xbox series x or PS5 can do, series s can do it, too. Just at lower resolution + lower res assets. There is really no real problem with that. Yes, the memory makes it a bit more tricky but that's all. Good thing about graphic is, that they can scale very well.
If you do something that needs so many compute power that series s can't do it at lower res, you really have other problems than that. The bigger problem is still the switch, that has a whole other architecture and much old feature-set.
If you still think that something can't be done, just give an example. Just as a reminder, if you have something to calculate that more or less needs the whole gpu power, you don't have enough resources to do something else. So that can't be the reason.

yes, this is expected, as the series s is the only console you can get easily without paying double the price. What I've seen so far is that more and more Series S consoles get "sold" via "Xbox All Access". It is really not a bad deal if you also want xbox gamepass ultimate for the next few years.

Jesus I hope you don’t have kids if that’s how you think.

I don’t buy “the next best thing” because they asked for something.

How fucked up do you have to be to think they are the same.

I don’t want a Tickle me Elmo. i want a Fondle me Elmer.
I don't buy my kids expensive gifts. Do some work. Buy it yourself.

Could've stopped at "no stock" and left it at that, that's why the Series S is beating its bigger bro and cousin this season.

It’s not just a ‘no stock’ situation. Halo and Forza Horizon are system sellers and that’s driving Series S sales, too.

After years of you lot arguing that games are extremely important to drive sales, it’s weird how everyone is doing their best to gloss over the fact that two very highly rated exclusives came out for the Xbox Series consoles these holidays.

Anyone who wants an X in the UK should check argos. They have them listed as available for store pick up on 24/26th in my part of Yorkshire.

* That you can also play on PC.

No I'm going to counter this, please provide something to back up your assertion, the ball is in your court now. Don't force other people to look for something that you can quite frankly have just made up.
It's in this topic.
November NPD.

Switch sold 1.23m units
Xbox Series and PS5 combined sold the same as Switch.

Xbox Series S alone sold more than PS5.

So what do you believe the Series S vs Series X ratio is, so all those statements can still be true?
Or do you think the PS5 sold less than 300k( so less than October) units in November?

Look what Chris_Dring is saying about the actual sales data.
Series S is outselling Series X.
Or look at Spain sales charts provided by vandal.

There's a good reason for that: You still can't find a PlayStation 5 to buy at retail.

Demand for Sony's PS5 certainly hasn't slowed down, but it remains in low enough supply that it's nearly impossible to buy more than a full year after it first launched.

"It's all about stock," NPD Group video game analyst Mat Piscatella said. "The console with the most units in market will lead the charts."

Well, it's obvious.

Its because its selling fast.

They are replenishing faster and faster, which is why it's available to you.

If xsx has 10 stocks, and xss has 100 stocks, the xss would be available, because it has more stocks. That is what available means. Its not because it doesn't sell well.

And also, it's 300 console, which MS can make faster, so its bound to outsell xsx faster. Not to mention, Playstation owners will definitely buy the xss, in addition to ps5.

People have this mindset, that majority of gamers wants high graphic console, which is ps5/xsx capable of.

In reality people want to play games. That is all. So they just buy whatever console they play their games on.

You can take a look at it this way, "Yes, it is only selling more becuse comsumers cannot buy the surefire hit PS5". No argument there based on my instincts. However long term and even right now they are getting consumers into OR back into the Xbox eco system. Thus potentially when PS5 and Series X are available there's more of a choice to be made after sampling the other company's offerings. Now, even IF they go to the PS5 that Series S they have onhand is going somewhere or being kept for the exclusives or the games they have already purchased.

Microsofts forward thinking of an entry and pro level next gen hardware is paying off right now in ways they could not have anticipated.

Not my concern really, but past games don’t become less attractive when you purchase a new console.
Plus, Horizon FW and GT7 are out in literally 2-3 months.
More people already have one than are buying new. Tales of arise was the last game i bought for my ps5 and I have been playing switch and Xbox since. Metroid and halo. Sony really didn’t give a compelling reason to play on ps5 this holiday but maybe I guess they didn’t have to. It would have been nice to have something special on the level of Metroid and halo to play on my ps5 this Christmas to make a trifecta of awesome. Lol

"MS is selling well because the only console that has been widely available throughout the year and you could easily find in stores is the only one people are buying now since the other ones are gone"

I for one am shocked at this article.
Well i don't think that Microsoft give a flying f*** about the reasons on why they buy the s series the important thing is (for them) that people are doing it, because once they do they are still tied to their ecosystem and buying a series s in particular it is very very very likely that the purchase of the console will turn into a gamepass subscription. Or are people naive enough to think that parents after gifting an Xbox this Christmas will run go out looking for another console (PS5) right after the holiday?

There's a precedent for your assumption,

Back in the day it was said that Microsoft didn't really care too much about pirated copies of Windows or Office as it got people familiar with their software. Their main businness was Enterprise licensing and so a person with a pirate copy at home was already familiar and then more productive at work with a licensed version of the software.

Awesome console. Had fun times with it.

Though it begs the question. Will it still be as popular when units for PS5 and Series X become widely available?
Love the optimism, that chip shortage will resolve till the end of this gen. And for that question, probably, since MS now have less share of the wafers for consoles than Sony.

Tell that to guerilla games and polyphony digital!
100+ million customers get precedence over a few million who needed to settle because Microsoft gimped their series x retail production. Especially bridging a new gen during a pandemic. The only similarity is that the last gen versions of HFW and GT7 won’t have features the next gen consoles have and series s is missing features on the same games that the series x has.

This post is funny for several reasons, but the core reason is the fact that "100+ million customers" don't care because the PS5 version of those games will comfortably outsell the PS4 version.

Well, it's obvious.

I strongly suspect the Business Insider journalist didn’t write that article for the consumption of forum dwellers on NeoGAF.

So it is actually a single reason but the guy made a full article for that?

Article also mentions price and games.

and series s is missing features on the same games that the series x has.

People who buy the cheaper console are most likely perfectly fine with the odd occasion where non-essential stuff is dialed back.
Nobody buys an RTX3050 and expects to run with All the bells and whistles that’ll get turned on with the RTX3080.

so to cut it short ...series s buyer don't really care if their game miss rt reflections ..particles effects ... lower shadows or even models with lower poly all of this at a lower res ..... just exactly the people who will buy the next horizon fw and gt7 on the PS4 knowing that exist a better version of the game. Series s will not gimp series x games .... it will get them just with less graphical effects, resolution etc etc. stuff that obviously doesn't matter for those who buy the series s
