Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Disney buys Nintendo and announces that Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck will replace Mario and Luigi in all future Nintendo games. Zelda will be turned into a live action TV series and played by an albino genderqueer actor,

I'm sure it's just some wacky game he's doing writing for and not actual industry-shattering news Whitta is privy to, and he let speculation just get out of hand here.

He's in the biz and would know some things most people don't hear that fast, but he's not been that kind of reporter for a long time and really doesn't have that kind of interest.

Can we please not have more acquisitions? I'd prefer to have multiple big companies instead of everything being owned by a handful of silicon valley giants
Maybe it's just a cooperation and no acquisition. Imagine Sony and Microsoft teaming up against Apple/Amazon/Google with the new Playstation Series One. Fanboy wars ended.

I saw something that Sony were trying to secure exclusivity for a big third party title. Maybe GTA VI is PlayStation only.
There's not much point getting GTA 6 exclusive and then MS buys Take 2 in 5 years. They might as well buy R* or T2 or do a merger.

What can be bigger?

Epic is bought
valve is bought
Take 2 is bought
Square enix is bought.

Nintendo/Sony merger.

Next few years I feel there are going to be huge shifts in gaming as we know it.

reason why activision sold for $70 billion was because there was a bidding war. its facebook or walmart buying a big publisher after losing out on Activision

It would have to be Square getting bought by Sony. However almost all the games they make are playstation exclusive already, so not sure. Could be Square selling off crystal dynamics to MS?
I've no doubt Bethesda, Activision being American helped MS to aquire them. They'd so many connections. Likewise sony buying a Japanese publisher would be more likely because of similar connections.

Reading between the lines… Possibly Square Enix related?

Can’t see what could possibly be bigger than Activision Blizzard from that perspective though. Tomb Raider PS5 exclusive is nothing. FF is already PS exclusive. Sony buying Square Enix? Still not much.

And how could MS top this? Maybe by buying Valve? VR and handheld MS 1st party games. That would be something.

Google jumping in again to buy EA or Take Two would be something too.

Nintendo has been silent a long time. I’m placing my bets on something Nintendo related. Nintendo unveiling Switch 2?

Apple buys Nintendo.

I’m not even joking, Google tells me Nintendo’s market cap is similar to Activision’s (~50 Billion). Apple could easily afford that. As could any of the tech giants (Google, Amazon etc). Yesterday I would’ve thought such an idea ridiculous, but I would’ve said the same about MS buying Activision-Blizzard of all things, yet here we are…

Has to go through the Japanese government which probably won't let it happen.

Bigger doesn’t mean in money. There are much more interesting companies then AB. AB was expensive, doesn’t mean they have the most interesting franchises for people.

I mean.. honestly... there isn't much that could be bigger.

MS just bought the biggest company out there.

I do wonder if MS was forced into it because Sony is about to do something big.
Something like Sony buying GTA6 Exclusivity could have forced MS to buy Call of Duty.
I highly doubt Sony is buying anyone or anything that large, if anything. That’s not their style. At most, maybe a timed exclusive for a known franchise or maybe even a very small indie studio.

Or MS buys Valve?
Sony buys Epic?

What can possibly be bigger?
Either Apple or Disney buys Sony (with all their assets).

Reasons for each?

Apple: would give them direct access to the living room and merge their "apple arcade" service with PS+. On the hardware side, it would directly reduce their iPhone camera sensors price, as well as give them direct access to pro a/v devices. Apple is already a very strong brand within the media producing industry, so it would make sense for them to offer the complete package (hardware + software) in an end to end solution.

Disney: given the amount of money the latest 3 spiderman movies made them AND Sony, it would only make sense to incorporate all of Sony (including Columbia Pictures) to Disney. PS+ could be included with a Disney+ subscription and would give Disney the possibility to deliver users "the complete package" in the living room: PS5 + Disney content.

Both companies (Disney and Apple) have a lot of cash in hand right now and its hurting them more to have them in the bank than using it to actually invest it in something, because of how high the inflation is right now.
