Should Nintendo just allow Gamepass on the next Switch?

We all saw Phil Spencer with a Switch on his desk saying it signified something. I think MS wants Gamepass on everything and figured Nintendo would gladly oblige since their third party support is so weak anyway, but I think Nintendo turned him away.

I don't see how this wouldn't be beneficial to Nintendo seeing as to how their third party situation is so bleak anyway.

The 3rd party support on the Switch is anything but weak.

It may not be the 3rd party games that you want but the system is a complete juggernaut in terms of its software library, and I say that as someone who doesn't even like the Switch all that much, but I'm adult enough to recognize that it has a shit ton of great games for people.

Why do you think companies would want to put game pass on their device, and eat their software sales??

Every company doesn't have money to throw down a pit like Microsoft.

What would be on there though? I don't understand why Nintendo would want that. Could anyone explain?

Why would MS want it on the switch? They would have to develop lower end versions of the game and give some kind of cut to Nintendo.

I think it depends on a lot of factors.

-How powerful will the next Switch be? Will it actually be able to run most big Gamepass games? Will it be a gimped version of the service with just indies and last gen stuff? But then will it cost the same?.
-What deal does MS offer Nintendo? Gamepass will eat into their third party sales, MS would have to offer them a good deal that makes up for that.
-Is it worth it for MS? Because to support it with first party software they'd have to port all these games, to a weaker system, where they'll get lower profits as they need to share them with Nintendo.

Nope they should merge to form Sony Nintendo because they are the only gaming giants left who value the console strategy. As a gamer, I love all of the positives that come with closed platform so I'm rooting for this. I think those who view this as a hot take are minimizing how major yesterday was for the future of gaming industry.

The only way I can see Game Pass being on Switch or PS is as a pared down version of just Xbox first party/exclusive games. Probably running only on xcloud for switch.

If they buy capcom absolutely. Monster hunter being removed from Nintendo would be a dagger. Just like call of duty to PlayStation.

I understand why MS would want to have Gamepass on Switch and PS (Switch+PS have the huge majority of console players), but I don't see why would Nintendo and Sony would be interested to have Gamepass on their platforms hurting their game sales.

Nintendo and Sony want to make revenue and profit for themselves, not for Microsoft.

Maybe in the future, if MS completes their transition to a multiplatform 3rd party and remove from the service all the games not published by themselves, turning it into a cloud only EA Play/Ubisoft Connect-like service, where they only include the games of that company.

There's Japanese laws in place prohibiting foreign investors from buying companies like Capcom. Nintendo or Sony would be more likely to buy them.

The mere fact that you mention twice how little 3rd parties matter to Nintendo and their massive success might also give you an indication of how badly Nintendo needs them. But I do have to say the thought of Game Pass on Switch 2 sounds like a dream come true.

Erhhmmm nope. That law only protects very specific companies that the japanese government consider strategic. Sony and Toyota (for example) falls under that category. Nintendo does not.

Switch's third party support continues to be pretty good. The only things they're missing are the AAA/AAAA type games that they wouldn't get even if their console was as powerful as PS5/Series X.

Can you provide a link showing what companies this act includes and precludes?

No. Really doesn't make sense for them right now. They're not competing directly with MS or Sony. They're selling cheap hardware to play the Nintendo catalog, and then get supported well with indies and some Japanese exclusives. There's not that much overlap. Gamepass will run on your phone over the cloud.

Why not the current Switch? They are already streaming content because of the potato hardware.
True. I think the ship has sailed on the current Switch though. Spencer seemed to be hinting at interest and I think Nintendo went the other way with it.

It can work.

- Nintendo systems always have a unique feature to them. Switch is hybrid handheld/console. Lots of gamers buy a Nintendo based on that alone
- Nintendo gamers buy shit loads of first party games. I dont see them saying.... Well, Call of Duty is on Switch so lemme play this all day and never buying Zelda or Mario
- Didnt Nintendo do some sub plan with their old games and Sega Genesis? So it shows Nintendo is open to subs
- Most third party key games arent even on Switch
- Switch is perfect for streaming. Its a handheld system
- Nintendo would get a cut of GP fees and a cut of all the mtx fees bought from GP games. MS and Nintendo would need to work out the deal who gets what
- More importantly, nobody said GP on Nintendo means its exactly the same games as Xbox GP. It's not like Xbox ad PC GP even have the same games. MS and Nintendo can work on which games are on the service. Nobody said MS first party games even have to be on it

I think Nintendo would rather become their own service and go third party before putting GP on their systems.

They launched Mario mobile at an Apple event. If they decide to launch their own Nintendo only GP service, it'll launch with Disney / Apple on TVs, and they'll just randomly change their entire business model overnight.

They take big ass risks in between generations and actually try new things.

Nintendo hate Sony with all of their hearts.
they would def partner with Ms than with Sony

Sony and Nintendo are very different though.

Sony lives and dies off third party.

Third party is just an added bonus to Nintendo.

Yea but Activision is not the only 3rd party developer so Sony will be fine without gamepass and Nintendo would not survive without 3rd party either, remember the wii u?

The issues with the Wii U went far beyond a dearth of third party support. The Wii U was a marketing communications blunder with many not sure if it was just a Wii add-on for a while. Also the Gamepad's features weren't enough to really get consumers to enjoy it overall.

Also Nintendo was still supporting two platforms (the 3DS) during its run as well. So their development resources were divided and not able to give the Wii U full support like the Switch has.

Third party don't do shit for Switch other than Mon Hun and indies. The Wii U flopped because of terrible branding and nobody even knowing what it was, plus it was strictly a home console.

Gamepass can offer Switch real third party support.

As you can see, Nintendo IS NOT part of a "core sector" according to the japanese government, but it is indeed important (that's why it's in category 2).

That means that any company (yes, even Microsoft) can buy Nintendo (should Nintendo ever want to sale) and the only thing they'd have to do is pass some japanese government scrutiny.

Heck, Sharp corporation was purchased by Foxconn some years ago, so anything is possible.

In fact, Capcom falls under category 1, which means the japanese government wouldn't even mind if they get acquired by Microsoft or Tencent. Sega sammy, holdings, Konami, Koei tecmo, and Bandai Namco falls under category 2 (same as Nintendo), so the easiest company for Microsoft to buy is Capcom.

Nintendo is actually the only one in position to keep doing whatever the f they want and be just fine. Without the need of buying $70b companies or having to beg for the next Bethesda/Activision game. Y'all keep saying "Should Nintendo do this, or that" for no apparent reason lol. The 130+ year old company will be just fine.

Soon there will probably come a point where they could feasibly have an xCloud app just for their first party owned IP. Does anyone have a list of every ‘first party’ game they could put on Game Pass should the Activision deal pass? I’d wager it’s well over a hundred now.

Would that be more appealing to Sony and Nintendo? Probably not.

They won't and shouldn't. Nintendo has been thriving on their 1st party and the small amount of third party games they've gotten for awhile now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You better do it Nintendo or...

Good lord, some of you guys are delusional.

No, Gamepass wont be on Nintendo consoles and unless Sony is going bankrupt, it wont come to Sony systems either.

I think we could see a version of game pass on switch, but it will only be games which are not coming on the switch natively.
However it may also be a joint subscription where if you ganepass on switch you also have to be sibscribed to Nintendos subscription or it may be a premium tier on the Nintendo sub where gamepass is included.
