ELDEN RING | Reviews Mega Thread

For people that want to look at an early comparison of all versions -

PS5 version runs the best in the 55-60fps range most of the time.
None of the modes are locked though, including the 30fps quality modes, which is pretty weird and shit really.. And even the best version in PS5 can be anywhere from 50-60fps. Series S hovers around 50fps, and XSX version sems to be in the 40-50fps range, and actually performs worse than the S version.

I dont really think any of the console versions are very good in any mode. I just hope my Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro luck keeps going and i can get a locked 60fps on my PC.

Not very impressive though from From, yet again.
The PS5 version is the one to get out of the consoles though.

Dont really get how a game shipping in such a technical stage can get a 97. I'll wait for reviews once the hype slowed down.

From needs to upgrade their "20 years" old engine in order to optimize their games, poor performance on FS games is a know issue since Demons Souls and if im not mistaken they use the same engine.

Damn it I need a new console.., and money

Had a $1000 Ps5 in my (digital) shooping cart earlier today but I just can't do it. I'm willing to pay more but not twice as fucking much as it should cost.

I sometimes think reviewers dont care much about framerate, or they are simply reviewing a game based on the game eventually getting fixed.

I just couldnt cope with the judder the console versions have. The judder will be least on PS5, but there will still be tons of judder with it being almost constantly under 60fps.

its frankly unacceptable with how the game looks.

not sure why these ultra souls fanboys never give it any criticism and i love souls games, played every one of them but i acknowledge their flaws.

So the final game runs like the Beta on Series X and DF is trying to find a way to give Xbox users a playable alternative?

Just to be clear here the beta runs at lower resolution and shit performance on Series X.
You really trying to make this about series x hardware aren’t you lol.

Souls fans don't really care about looks or the technical stuff and that is not a bad thing. It is not their priority. Anyway this looks like it is not for me but have fun folks and enjoy it.

It's less of a scenario where "you see a truth that no one else sees" and more of a you just aren't into what it is. No one can "help you" with that. If you're not into it, you're not into. I hope you got the attention you wanted from this, lmao.

That's why you don't pay attention to the "Greg Millers" and more so the smaller ones that you may appreciate more. If you do, the reception is very much the same. It's a huge game and release, this reaction from outlets and journalists is standard.

May be? I'm sure it WILL be.

It's not about attention. It's literally me trying to get somebody to send me something that helps me see something from this game that I haven't been able to see in countless videos.

Where is THIS video from Elden Ring to make me care about the world and story the way Sekiro did? I don't doubt the combat and gameplay will be amazing. I don't doubt the world will be well built and rich with underlying lore. But damn, can they tell a brotha the story, the reason why I'm playing this shit? I don't think I should literally have to spend money first to get a better idea of what will motivate me to want to keep playing. They can't just be thinking it's just our bosses and our combat and enemy AI alone that will make people keep going? Maybe they do, but I need more than that.

Every source on Metacritic/Opencritic is pressured by the same forces that incentivize high scores.

All 99 critics on Opencritic benefit from having early access to Elden Ring as it draws traffic to their site. Essentially they're all Greg Millers.

There are waaaaay more than 99 people who wanted early access to Elden Ring. From Software selected the reviewers who they believed would benefit them the most.

That's why all gaming media has essentially become enthusiast media. The outlets who are more critical of games get cockblocked by these big publishers. "Praise me or be shunned."

Opencritic/Metacritic should allow the public to set parameters to reviews that only get sent a month or two after release. When critics are forced to buy their own games, and don't benefit from early access, it would give the public more balanced scores.

Just canceled my pre-order. I had got caught up in the hype yesterday and had grabbed an Xbox copy from Amazon. I've never really "clicked" with the Souls games but this looked worth a punt.
Think I'll see what you crazy lot think of it first, especially those who were not particularly invested in the previous Souls titles before sticking it back in my checkout basket.

For those who get to play it in the next day or so, enjoy!

Trust me, you're not nuts. Look at all the posts in here saying they didn't expect these scores. Im reserving judgment until I play though. Obviously I can't say shit until I see the game. It may just be that awesome. It probably is with all these reviews.

We’re already in conspiracy theory territory?

ah, bad luck mate. Nah I have a super high end PC so I'll be playing mainly on PC but I have always done that with From Soft games bar Demons and Bloodborne.

I expect there will be some differences, with xbox being behind on launch day needing a few patches. seems like all games are coming in hot and a Japanese DEV will have focused on PS5 IMO.

Oh dear, fingers crossed for the Day one patch! Shrier was saying he had to go back to PC after trying the PS5 version so I think they are all going to be a bit dodgy at launch!
Yep, we have to wait and see.

Well, not bad for the PS4 if it really is a locked 30. Seems From really prioritized the playstation consoles when optimizing the game.
I don't think they optimized anything. It just runs the way it does by accident. Hell, PS5 runs the best of all them consoles because they have the highest clock rate, so I would presume the engine is hitting a single core XD
