[DF] Elden Ring performance: what to expect on PS5, Series X/S and PC

I really don't want to buy the ps4 version on disk but this is my only option now. Think I'm going to hang fire on grabbing that one now.

Sadge.

It's still completely locking up for seconds at a time on Cohn's stream. Maybe something in his stream setup making it worse.

This is actually great news, it will light a fire under someone's ass to get the shit fixed sooner rather than later.

Honestly, every game launches broken now. It's piss annoying. Dying light 2.....Horizon forbidden West and now elden ring all full of shit bugs, hitching and crashes etc.

So annoying.

Even more of a joke that they are trying to put the prices up for games.

Cancelled PS5 pre-order and switched it to PS4 disc version.
Totally ridiculous, but totally expected FROM SOFT behavior :messenger_loudly_crying:
Why, you get both versions with the PS5. You just download the PS4 version and have the PS5 version still there waiting to DL when they fix the 55-60fps issues, lol
dw. with how dumb the PS5 is, its more than likely that most ppl will be playing the PS4 version by accident anyway

its happened to me at least 3 times
User error.

Interesting. Well I guess it's fine then. I'd rather just have stable 60. I don't care if I'm missing some grass or other settings really.

Yeh in trying the PC version first but if the stutter is too bad then I'll just refund it and get the PS4/PS5 version and use the PS4 version.

If I have to do that my biggest annoyance will actually be having to renew my PS+ subscription.

Nah if you get the digital version and end up inadvertently playing the wrong version then it is you who is dumb. Both versions are clearly listed as an option for download after purchase.

You're saying that I can put a PS5 Disc in my PS5 and download the PS4 version?
There's no reason I would know that would work. Sony's cross gen system is trash.
Either way, it's done and makes almost 0 difference in acquiring the game for me

This is EXACTLY what people were concerned about happening with the stuttering.

Imagine suggesting to load up a previous generation version on a current gen console as a solution. Completely unsatisfactory. PC version unlocks in 5 hours.

It isn't a bad suggestion. The brute force of the PS5 gives you 60FPS at significantly reduced image quality.

That's exactly what I'm wondering.

Ah I see, disc. Not sure about the PS5 version of the disc, but the PS4 version of the disc does indeed give you the free upgrade to the PS5 version as well. Digital is both.

The fact that you can choose both versions on the PS5 does not scream trash in this instance. It isn't rocket science.

The NT worked well on PS5. The only slowdown was during high traffic sessions and mostly during respawn or resting. The workaround may be to turn off network features and play the game offline. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what is causing the PS5 to dip to 55. It might be a locked 60 playing offline. Lots of people play offline first play through anyway.

God damn cowards the lot of them,

pulls out internet plug "lollipop_disappointed:

That's how it has worked for I'm pretty sure the entirety of the PS5's life. . .at least for titles that do NOT have a current-gen upgrade path.

Considering many others are not sure either, it isn't exactly sesame street either buddy
WTF are you talking about?

You purchase the PS4 version ON DISC, it comes with the PS5 free upgrade as well. It says that on storefronts. You purchase digital, you get BOTH as well.

You then use the fancy little "hamburger menu" we are all used to using since smart phones came out in 2007, and you select which version you would like to install.

I've literally never heard of this ever working though lol. What PS5 disc can you put in your system and get the PS4 version?

We're saying that to get both you have to purchase the PS4 version.

So PS5 owners should buy the digital/physical PS4 version of Elden Ring as it performs better? WTF

I think I'll be waiting to see if this gets sorted out. I'd rather own the native version for the PS5. Huge backlog of games anyways and that Witch Queen campaign..... :messenger_fire:

Exactly my issue. Cancelled my ps5 day one edition and need to pick up the ps4 version.

Piss take :(

But I want to see a comparison first. I need to know its a locked 60fps and loading isn't too bad etc.

So I'm a little confused. I have both ps5 and XSX. Most people are concerned about 60fps but If I want to play in quality mode, which I do, which version will be best? I also have a tv that supports VRR.
Do you care about more responsive controls?

There isn't a "PS4" version though. It's just ELDEN RING on the Playstation Network.

Goty ladies and gentlemen. FROM is fucking incompetent when it comes to tech/performance. It is Dark Souls 2 all over again lol

It reads more like an advertising for VRR than analysis, agree on Vgtech.

Not so fast, let's compare what they say about VRR on Xbox vs VRR on PC shall we:

Xbox Series X is greatly improved by its system-level support for variable refresh rate (VRR) if you have a supporting display. VRR helps minimise the perceived judder in its 45-60fps range in frame-rate mode, creating a smoother experience by matching the screen refresh to the frame-rate.

Vs

Variable refresh rate monitors using G-Sync or Freesync help alleviate a level of the distracting nature of some of these issues, but leaning on the technology is not a good situation in light of how the console versions do not suffer from these stutters.

So leaning on the technology on console = good, but leaning on it on PC = not good

It's funny to see these inconsistencies within the same article.

I agree, VRR is better with XSX then, some kind exclusivity must be in place.. Consistent indeed.

What a ripe little cunt.

Jesus. That's a new one.

. . .and looks like I was wrong. I assumed the one case works because all other cases do as well: you aren't entitled to a PS4 version if you buy a game on disc. Literally every other situation has worked for me, I never considered it.

I would still just stick the disc in and check though.

There’s a chance that They’re just not advertising it. Only the PS4 to PS5. When I got my NT code I got a PS5 code but you could download either. That’s how they figured out that the PS4 version running on PS5 was the most stable.

For some reason retailers show this under the PS5 listing:
NOTE - A free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version will be available for players who purchase ELDEN RING on PlayStation 4
