NXGamer/IGN: Elden Ring: PS5 vs Xbox Series X | S Performance Review

which is really due to no developer actually utilizing the decompression hardware properly... like there is no other explanation given that they have literally the same IO and decompression hardware. so they should load exactly identically, and the S version often even faster due to having lower res assets
They don’t have the same memory bandwidth and the SSD data needs to go there… that can cause difference.

I know your trolling, but real talk. I never understood the thought that players of one system are better than players of another. I mean floks flip flop back and forth for one Gen to the next, additional quite a few people own all systems and a PC to boot.

well the players of the more mainstream system will logically be worse on average. back when the 360 was far ahead that's where the causals went... now with the PS4 ahead that's where the casuals went there.

that's just logic. mainstream = attracts casuals. more niche = attracts mainly core gamers.
because why would a casual buy an Xbox One X for example? chances are most of his friends are on PS4 and so the logical choice is also getting a PS4. just as an example from last gen.

That is correct.
The bigger the userbase the bigger % of the causal players.

A small userbase is basically formed by hardcore fans.

Ps5 frame rate mode looks like how dark souls 3 played on PS4 pro or even a bit better. That’s plenty good enough for me. Don’t see much difference between quality and frame rate mode visually.

They fixed the lack of motion blur on XSX at least. The rest well.. is very one sided. It's nice to see PS5 I/O hardware and SSD to perform somewhat in line with its specs in a multi-platform game. This doesn't happen that often.

I thought he said it now applied but still seems off. He couldnt say exactly what it was but that it seemed to not be active in some instances.

Edit: reading comprehension FTW. You said fixed the LACK of... yep you are right.

I'm really not seeing anything on screen that justifies the poor performance. It looks as last gen as you could possibly get. Classic From Software optimisation.

Lol nice try. Just take the loss on this one. Don't try to spin it.
Sorry, but what loss am I taking?
I am a owner off a TV with a VRR and a series X, I'm more than happy with how the game will run, loading times could be better, but it's not the end of the world.
Jesus, it's easy to see why you have "I advertise
playstation for free as your tag"
Get a grip and realise it's not about scoring points against some plastic box that is different to your preference.

I'll be enjoying a game I'm very excited about tomorrow like many others, regardless of platform.

What a genuine loser you are.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Elder Ring
Cyberpunk Next-gen
Rainbow Six Extraction
Dying Light 2

Forget any?

Elden Ring: Yes.
Cyberpunk: Toss up. SX has slightly higher resolution, PS5 has 2% higher avg performance as per VGTech.
Rainbow Six: SX has streaming stutter at level launch, PS5 has lower average dynamic resolution as per ElAnalistaDeBits. VGTech did not cover it.
Dying Light 2: Outside of difference in shading in trees in the prologue area, SX is the only version which supports a 120 FPS mode. Not sure how you counted that as a PS5 'win'.

The only thing you got right was that we definitely are in February yet ;)

Why 1512p or even 1620p? Just reduce the resolution down to 1440p you nits.

PS5 wouldve easily maintained a 60 fps target. It is already at 55-58 fps at 1612p.
That would work for PS5 but not sure if it would work for XsX, that probably why they didn't. XsX does have VRR though so they certainly could have.

Hard to Kill
Man, some of you guys try really hard to win your Pyrrhic victories. Performance is crap in this game all around but you call it a 'win' because someone else has it slightly worse.
I'm sorry but what is a pyrrhic victory? Google translate it to something akin to fire and I don't get it.

Yeah, the frame rate tanks on the open world on Series X sometimes. Never mind, I played through Bloodborne, so I can put up with it until they stick a decent patch on it.

No locked frame rate? Pure lazy garbage. Not even a capped 30FPS mode for those who hate massive dips.

The fact that people are suggesting playing the 8th gen version on PS5 speaks volumes.

So sick of devs chasing resolution at all costs

Yes, but you get 50fps on PS5 vs 45fps on XSX.

It's a 'win' for those who care about that.

Ask me about my Stream Deck
Yes easy choice to make like every other game, the only way to get smooth performance in this game without dropping down to the PS4 version on PS5. It is what it is.
Imagine how good all that extra loading time is going to look with VRR. Truly superior.

Teasing aside, FROM was able to patch and improve loading time for previous titles, so I would expect that it is likely to improve.
