  • Netflix updated its company culture guidelines for the first time since 2017 to include an "artistic expression" section.
  • It says "Netflix may not be the best place" for employees who cannot work on content they disagree with.
  • The streamer is looking to rebound from a historic drop in subscribers and sudden layoffs.
Netflix updated its company culture guidelines for the first time since 2017 to include an "artistic expression" section that warns employees they may be required to work on content that's counter to their personal values.

"Not everyone will like — or agree with — everything on our service," the memo says. "We let viewers decide what's appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices."

"Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If you'd find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you," it continues.

What the hell is Netflix doing? Lol
Aren't you supposed to encourage people to stay with the company?
It’s like the titanic but slower!!!

I kinda agree with the company tho! They aren’t there to change the world or society! They just make dumb movies and tv shows!

Problem is people thinking they are in a company that makes high art and feel entitled to complain about everything! You’re not happy with that Netflix is doing why stay there? Doesn’t make sense!

Not just a NF thing, but often a tech industry thing. The kind of place where workers treat work like an extension of home life.

On one hand, every worker says they dont want their home life to be hassled by bosses after dinner, yet these same people sure love to spread their miserable personal views at the office. Figure that one out.

Normal person
- 8 hours sleep
- 8 get up and go to work
- 8 hours personal time

Modern day moron
- 8 hours sleep
- 16 hours of "I cant tell the difference between home and work"

No doubt. Must had started in the dot com era where every tech company raised giant sums of money through IPOs and investment companies turning the company into one giant free food, free booze, party central office. Why go home when you can practically live at office. And over time they cant tell that personal views should stay home, as they've been spending more time at the office playing ping pong than being with their kids.

I’ve seen a documentary about that and it was pretty scary how people working for those companies were brainwashed! It seemed like a cult! On weekends they even gathered to discuss ideas and give lectures etc it’s non stop work until they think they are actually having fun!

Silicon Valley is scary!

If you know which documentary it was, please post. I'd like to check it out for laughs.

I understand your point but the triple 8 logic has always been a flawed lie for the average person anyway, and most people actually have 3-5 hours of personal free time for themselves if they don't live like a cave troll. The only time this wasn't the case was when stay at home work became more of a norm.

Great, then put the episodes back that you pulled to appease people who want to decide for other people what they can see.

Chapelle stays winning, they came for the king but he didn't give a fuck.
100% agree.

My only issue is that the only people that can push back at the moment are genuinely "un-cancelable" people like Chappelle, Elon Musk, J.K. Rowling, etc.

We need to get to a place where normies can more easily push back without losing their whole livelihoods. When that happens, we have a chance of getting back to a more balanced society where a certain section of the population isn't always trying to bulldoze their ideas/lifestyles onto others. (Get back to... I don't know, anywhere between 1995-2015 when there wasn't so much societal division over these things...)

Too little too late. They already spent a lot of time creating a bad image for themselves, and now there’s other streaming options. Netflix used to be #1 in most houses, even before the pandemic, and they screwed it up

The others are no better, some like HBO are even worse.

I was referring to the pandering specifically, the rest is opinion.
Cheaper isn't an opinion. HBO panders more? HBO hasn't produced anything like Cuties as far as I know. Cuties was a front-page thing for me on netflix.

I don’t know what that is but they make a ton of content, some is woke/pandering, I’m not denying that, there’s also a lot that isn’t.

The gaming industry should also resist the call for wokeness it's the blight of the age. Actually there should be a woke simulator or RPG game where the whole world went woke and the main character strives to bring back common sense to the world.
Isn’t that every jrpg in the last 10 years?

One thing I can say is that mindset tends to spill over to internet dweebs like me. It's somewhat amusing to see now the influence the always on internet workers have had on a labourer like me. Coming from a farm, there's no shortage of hands on practical skills I could be a lot better at if I didn't allow my self to get lost.
