we have to have one ps5 exclusive game in 2022 as we don't have one so we will just cull the ps4 version and focus on the ps5 release.
Technically it could be on last gen with downgrades but the purpose of this was to get new staff up to speed with PS5 hardware. Also people forget adding in a last gen version is even more work now because devs have to make a port for both PS4 and Pro.

I think it would look just like last of us 2, I don't think it would be tough to get this to 1080p 30 on ps4 / 1440p 30 on ps4 pro. It's basically identical to tlou part 2.

Basically, it looks great.
Naughty Dog said they wanted to make the definitive version, so I can understand they wouldn't make it 30fps - I don't even think there's a 30fps option for it on PS5.

Seeing DF compare footage side by side it becomes apparent what a huge jump the PS5 version is and that is saying something coming from the pinnacle of PS3 era games.

In my mind TLOU1 PS3 always looks better than it actually did. Some sort of Super Mario 64 effect I guess.

Can't wait to play it. Yo Sony 79€ in Europe is still daylight robbery. Give us some slack you greedy jimmies.

There's no way this shouldn't have a ps4 version but I feel that Sony probably thought we have to have one ps5 exclusive game in 2022 as we don't have one so we will just cull the ps4 version and focus on the ps5 release.
With the remaster being on PS4, this wouldnt really make sense.

As much as some ppl are complaining about this remake, imagine if it was on PS4....

Last of Us Part 1 essentially running the same as TLOU2 on the PS5 is disappointing.

Two years have passed, there is no reason at all as to why TLOU 1 Remake with TLOU2 assets can't do 4k 60 on the PS5.

Like seriously, they can't even improve the sharpness of the textures after 2 years on NEW HARDWARE?

WHY is this not on PS4?
They better have really improved the gameplay..

The artists & animators at Naughty Dog are some of the very best in the industry.
The subtleties and attention to detail are much appreciated.

the fact that the ps4 version still looks good even today, shows that naughty dog were at their peak them days.
While I share in the sentiment, I don't think they were even at their peak when you look at what they've managed to accomplish technically in TLOU2 on the PS4's hardware.

Even with this remake, they still haven't fully flexed their technical capabilities with the PS5.
I believe the forthcoming Factions game and whatever new IP Druckmann and his team are working on will be next level.

Are there any comparisons to TLOU2 on PS4/5? Obviously it's going to look better than a game designed for 2006 hardware. How much is it better than TLOU2? Is PS5 exclusivity justified?

Honestly, If I didn't see a comparison, in my memory... the PS5 Remake is what I remember it looking like in the PS3 days :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I think that happens a lot, to a lot of ppl. We always remember things much nicer/better than they actually were.
Also a lot of people are comparing the original game's pre rendered cutscenes to the remake's real time cutscenes, which I find funny because the original game doesn't look as good as the pre rendered cutscenes.

Never mind, there actually are comparison shots. Looks like they recreated TLOU 1 in TLOU 2 engine and called it a day. Naughty Dog used to push the hardware to its limits. Now they just want to push this game before the show drops. No bueno.

but that's it man, those are the scenes that stand out... so they stick in your memory. A lot of ppl do remember pre-rendered footage as the "original," which I am guilty of... but I also don't think it's unique to TLOU, I think it happens across the board.

You seem concerned, when they have said as much as them wanting cohesion between the two so it's like one big seamless story. Continuity between the two.

This is by design. Their next IP is where we will see their PS5 central efforts, me thinks.

Not concerned, just disappointed. They can give whatever bullshit explanation they want. It was done this way because it was fast and cheap.

Seems like the level design remains the same?

I’d imagine the numerous additional tools you have in combat would definitely give you a leg up on the game compared to the original. They did say the AI was upgraded as well.

What I want is the same story beat but an entirely new way to approach combat in a familiar setting.

Very excited for this especially now that we have seen the graphical upgrades.

I wonder...

I think if they made the first looked better, they would've been compelled to remake the second so that it looks just as good. And then we'd have people calling them out for not having new IP/games.

So maybe this is a decent middle ground. Up it just enough so that it looks like part 2 and then hand the games to new audiences. PC will get part 1 and 2 looking the same 🤷‍♂️

Maybe this game isn't for you but it will be for a lot of people.

Its pretty much guaranteed to do huge numbers in sales since it's such a beloved classic as well as it giving off those nostalgia vibes. It's a smart move.

Imagine they are improving their engine all the time. DF mentioned that there is possibly GI involved now.

It really is.

No doubt about it.
If this looked a generation better than the second, that would bother my OCD, real talk. :pie_roffles:

I still think TLoU2 is phenomenal looking.
That dude used a tiny 27" screen, of course he could not see a major difference...

Overall I guess that 1440p is "good enough", but the more the better :pie_eyeroll:
Good 4K TVs have such good scalers in them, that it's nearly discernable. Also depends on how they do the 1440p.

Demon's Souls for example is almost impossible to tell the difference between native 4K and the 60fps 1440p, in which it was a no brainer to stick to performance mode.
