Gleamium and Gold

These are the paid and free currency respectively, you can unlock characters with Gold that you earn, or buy them, and other cosmetics like costumes with Gleamium.

Super Smash??

Yes, this game looks and plays a lot like super smash brothers, and characters lose by accumulating enough damage to get knocked out of the stage; more damage, more knockback!

Unlike super smash however, there's no blocking, only dodging; your invincibility bar depletes as you do consecutive dodges, but it fills back up when attacking

Recovery options are also more generous, you get two jumps, two dodges and two special attacks in the air (and unlimited normal attack); you can also stick to the edges of the stage, but be careful staying there too long, as it will prompt "Wall Fatigue", which drains your invincibility bar quickly!

Try almost everything for free.

The "LAB", or training stage will grant you access to every character and even their alternate costumes, so you can try them out and see if you like them

There's also Local Play, where all characters and perks are unlocked as well; mind you, an internet connection is still required for local play, there's no offline play.

This game is pretty fun but I hate the perks system and I think the maps are pretty bland. They need bigger maps like Smash Bros has and I think adding items could be fun for casual play.

This is fun stuff, I hated Smash Bros because I didn't want to pay a dime for this type of game, so FREE is a great price.

Just try it out for a few rounds, it's not the most fun game but it's one of the best F2P games right now.

I played a few games.

Now a few disclaimers:

- I am a HUGE fan of Jump Ultimate Stars. Played that a lot both solo and multiplayer.
- I never played any Smash.

This game is BORING as fuck. It's messy, random, inprecise, the hitboxes suck and are too restrictive in relation to the movement/position, the rounds drags for much too long, the maps are bland as fuck, the moves are very limited, visually it is kinda cute but it's also the bare minimum, the music is pointless and I find it just... not fun to play at all. Let's add that I don't care for 90% of the characters - I mean, who doesn't love Scooby Doo? But it's just not a fantasy of mine to play a fighting game with Scraggy.
One last pet peeve that drives me mad: the game always resets the mouse pointer position to the center of the screen. Drives me crazy.

Its only good quality is that it's free.
I predict that it will have a very big start then will drop down to oblivion in a few months.

If you've been curious, it's free, so check it out. I standby saying it's the best Smash-like I've played yet, and it's F2P. With good monetization, so, can't complain there.

Game isn't perfect, but I still think it offers some dumb fun moments. I'm sure it'll get better with time. At least I'd hope so!

It’s kind of boring but it’s free so what can you really say? Doesn’t feel like a great deal of skill can be employed but who knows after a year of updates.

Update: it’s fun

It's also a very small download, so I guess it has two good qualities.

There's also the fact that it's the best Smash clone I've ever played. So we have free, small file size, and really good at emulating the series it's based on. Oh, and the characters are really well designed, and the game is a lot of fun.

I guess you have to enjoy the genre, but for those who do, this is great.

Does anybody know if you can play local coop on the online modes? Meaning: me and someone else play on my console and then go online for 2v2 matches against randoms on the internet?

With the focus on 2v2 would be a missed opportunity if not.

Nope, there's no local/online play, just local or online.

Gave it an honest chance but it kinda sucks. Way too many normal attacks behave like special moves. Even the gimmick smash characters are still fun to fun around and play in despite never mastering them. The 2 air attacks and 2 jumps feels like an afterthought because they didnt want to design up air moves for everyone.

Guess we'll see how it does in the future. Roster is A1

Region locked for much of the world. I was barely interested before. I can't be bothered to keep track of when I will be allowed to play a game in 2022.

Tried it last night because, why not it’s free, I don’t know, but something just felt off. I’m also not crazy about any of the characters. Uninstalled.

I tried it yesterday.

Pretty fun for me (a very occasional Smash enjoyer). I made several 1v1 and 2v2.

Very simple to get around the controls and mechanics. Game is responsive. The teamwork mechanics (with perks and unique abilities of each character) is an interesting idea.

I only played Wonder Woman. Really enjoyed her. She armorer buff herself and allies while removing debuff. You can also grab enemies and allies (to save them) with her lasso.
I have the feeling she's lack some attack power but it's not her role (she's a tank) so it's fine.

Interested in trying Batman and Arya. Maybe Harley Quinn.
Not interested in the rest of the cast.

I was enjoying myself. Finn, Iron Giant and Shaggy have become my mains

Had to change the controls to be like smash though to fully get used to the new mechanics

I see the success of this game being a result of its very smart rollout, strangely diverse roster and simply not being completely terrible.

Smash is much better, but this is free, multiplatform and has online that actually works. In fact, you can't even play without an internet connection!

I made the mistake of playing it the same day I tested Melee on Dolphin, it did not flatter the feel or mechanics.

I also like how Smash has some sort of theme to the fighters that ties it together (game characters) while here it just looks like a dumping ground for any and every IP at their disposal. I guess that casts the widest net for recognizable characters people will want to play as, at the expense of making the game feel like a dictionary of IP rights. Something about the title art showing Batman and Shaggy, alone makes it feel like dollar store Smash to me.

But it's better than nothing if you want an online arena fighter for free that isn't Nintendo.

I like the game so far... but it feels just so much worse than Smash Bros, and you can't help but compare it to Smash all the time :/

maybe I'll try mapping the movement to the Dpad, because you don't really need the stick movement in this game after all

So played as Superman did ok enough and got 3000 gold. Bought Tom & Jerry and now I’m getting wrecked. Juggle city😑

I thought I'd use the OT to respond to this.

Keep in mind that you can try any character in "the lab" training mode as much as you want, to decide if they're a character you'd like to buy. Tom & Jerry is a good character and they are often towards the top of tier lists, but all characters each play very differently, and not everyone is going to like the gameplay of every character.

For now, I'd say keep at it, and maybe watch some "how to play" Tom & Jerry videos on you tube. If the character still doesn't click with you, you'll have free access to a different set of four fighters every two weeks, so just save your gold until you find someone you do like.

Wish I knew about trying em out in the lab. Good to know thanks.

This game feels like it came out of nowhere to be one of the biggest success stories of 2022. Many companies have tried to do Smash clones but they have all been mediocre. This game though actually delivers. The online actually is pretty smooth, which is a giant boon over Smash. And the gameplay mechanics are all well done (except for priority but they're working on it). And WB has access to one of the largest fantasy character libraries in media so the roster possibilities are endless.

Harley quinn main checking in. Game is fun af. I like the focus on duos and the lack of fucks given when designing characters. They went with goofy ass shit and not just sword dudes and I appreciate it. My oy complaint is the battle pass is a bitch to level outside the challenges.

I made the mistake of playing this game the same day I tested Melee on Series X and I can't even be arsed to launch it again, I might even uninstall it today.

IDK I hate being this lame about new stuff everyone else is playing, but blah.

that's always the issue with games that closely copy what other games do,
the moment they aren't as good as the original you'll constantly be reminded how better the game could be.

that's the same issue all the god of war clones had back in the day

This was my exact thought while playing it. That it borrows too heavily from Smash for something that is so obviously less good. Like maybe it wouldn't be SO apparent if they tried to make it its own thing more.

I sort of wished it was more of its own thing, so I'd feel like I was playing a different game instead of a meh Smash clone.
