Sony isn't prepared for the fight this generation

Last year had Returnal (the best next-gen exclusive on either platform), Kena Bridge of Spirits and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. Not to mention Deathloop. Maybe a down year by Sony's super high standard, but calling it abysmal seems a stretch. It's not like they had zero games or something crazy.
That poor car game thing that I forgot the name of, everyone forgets about that one.

The Xbox 360 was Microsoft firing on all cylinders.
And even with Sony tripping over and smashing their face in the dirt.
it all ended the same way.
The first half of the generation. Then, the games dried up while PS3's ramped up. The PS4/XBO was just the continuation of the last few years of that gen. Things really haven't changed much since then.

But, yeah, those first 3 and a half years of 360 was a completely different Xbox than what we've had since.

Thats a pretty fanboy way to look at it. 360 sold 83mil (before they stopped reporting numbers in 2014) from 26mil with the orig Xbox. Sony went from 140mil PS2's to 87mil PS3's.
Thats a titanic shift in opposite directions for both companies.

And although i do think PS5 will win this gen, who knows what will happen next gen if Xbox have a great gen this generaion, filled with exclusives, Gamepass, and very little negativity surrounding the brand compared to the toxic XB1.

The difference then was that the 360 had games.

Picked up a PS5 and a Series X at launch. One console has delivered a bevy of incredible games. The other, has not only failed to provide games. But has diminished one of their flagship titles/ip by catastrophic management in the same timeframe.

I disagree with OPs characterization. Unless he's talking about meaningless PR and not actual games.
Forbidden West is simply not that bad. Come on, dude.

Dude they have 30 studios or something, with multiple games in development from many of them. Everyone knows the games are coming, which is why the 'Xbox has no games' rhetoric is in full bloom again.
Once we reach the second half of the gen, and the games are floiwing like fine wine, no one is going to remember the sparse first 2 or 3 years.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Immense user base thanks to cross-gen and some cool games on the way for the holiday season.

I'd bet they'll be fine.

Until those studios release games that prove to be top tier, then that’s a pretty meaningless stat at the moment.

I think the gen will end up neck and neck. Possibly even in MS's favor. If MS made CoD exclusive, rolled a WoW sub into a Game Pass sub, released both Starfield and the next Elder Scrolls this generation MS would definitely sell more consoles or at least have such an advantage with Game Pass subs going into next gen, that Sony would have to react with a more competitive PS+.

Sony is going to be fine. It's just that MS is also going to do really well this gen. People act like all of a sudden Sony no longer has amazing 1st party studios that do nothing but pump out critically and commercially successful games.

Xbox peak: 360 (first half)
Playstation peak: PS2

Both are still riding off their peak years. Now, Xbox is the Netflix of games (all trash but it's flashy trash) and Playstation is the annoying hipster guy of games (think they're deep when they're just basic and boring).

Sony is trouble.
mm hmm
Not to say ps5 won't have incredible games and good sales numbers, but that's not my point.
LMAOOOOO

What has Xbox done? Getting bailed out by Microsoft, by buying Bethesda and now Activision? And promise of their future libraries with exclusively? Giving their games away for marketshare? But what have they really done? Gamepass is going to go the way of HBO Max. Bunch of money burning.

Yeah, Sony is so doomed.

What were those latest PS5 vs Series S|X numbers again?

How will Sony compete with Microsoft's amazing 2022 first-party library of zero games?
He said he didn't want to talk about sales. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway the latter part of your post he conveniently avoided as well and at the end of the day....it's nonexistent. 😶

Jim is just salty over the deal in Sony not being able to do exclusive DLC. They got bungie plus that other 1st person shooter with the OG Modern warfare team coming soon. Sony just need to do what they do best drop games.

Not that it's all about winning the sales numbers war, but if it were, Sony is trouble. They went against the weakest effort ever from Microsoft last generation and Xbox still had some success.

This generation is easily the most hungry version of Xbox I've seen and it's not close.

Gamepass, BC, and emulation might not be huge by themselves, but together they make a strong argument against ps5, and $300 console option to boot. How much longer until that console is $199? Late 2024? That will be an incredibly difficult problem for Sony to solve.

And when the heavy hitter xbox exclusives start rolling in next year, it's over imo. Starting with Starfield. I don't think Xbox has ever had this level of exclusives in the pipeline that people want to play again. Halo even last gen wasn't what it was, Gears and Forza aren't really console sellers.
So, Sony boxed against a featherweight last gen as a middleweight. Now it's a heavyweight match. Worse, it feels like there's no urgency and we're seeing a passive version of Sony. VR and the lack of fresh content are much of my reasoning here(I'm talking about console seller fresh content)

And as much as I love VR, it feels like an experiment rooted in the leisure of success. It shows a certain level of comfort to toss their hat back into VR.

Success is not guaranteed this time. Xbox made it super easy last gen and the opposite is true this gen. Not to say ps5 won't have incredible games and good sales numbers, but that's not my point.
🤦‍♂️…lock this shit mods.

Neck and neck, or Sony stomping on Microsoft’s neck again, stay tuned!

It's a pretty black & white view of it, there's no sugar coating or anything.
Sony fucked up royally and MS had a massive lead and still lost.
both lost to the Wii and the 360 went from first to last.
There's no fanboy way of looking at it other then seeing the statement and getting butt-hurt about it.
And yes, no-one knows what the future may hold

Sony is very far ahead and they have great studios and they're adding to their studios.

The Xbox trajectory is clearly one of major improvement on services, pricing and acquisitions. They have yet to see many first party games and they're already breaking their previous records. It will definitely get better.

The end result is going to be strong competition between the two and not one system dominating and one being a joke. Itll be a good thing for gamers. But you're going to have to own all the systems or a PC. Get a Series S if you must and just enjoy the ride. All 3 platforms are worth owning this gen.

Remember when Ps5 was so screwed because F2P Halo was going to be the biggest thing in multiplayer gaming since the invention of the internet?...... yeah.

I'd love for Xbox to outsell Ps5 this gen but I think you should wait until these MS games are actually out and doing well before the whole "doomed" talk.
MS took too long to start releasing heavy hitters, IMO it's easier to start with a strong momentum and build from that than having a weak 2-3 years and then being like "ok guys now it's for real!!! get excited".

I think they might be talking about Halo
Oh dang, you're right.

Just the same, though, there's simply too much drama in a space meant to provide joy and entertainment. I'm sure Microsoft is well aware that as a publisher they have problems with their pipeline of content. In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy with Gamepass and the knowledge that Microsoft will eventually deliver the games I'm eagerly awaiting such as Fable, Elder Scrolls, and even Starfield. I'm also happy with my PS5 and the games they've already released.

The bear of bad news
PS5 will handily outsell XS this gen.

Next gen they may have something but this gen Sony still sells quite a bit more.

Every game that Sony relases its a success...their IPs are among the best of the industry....and its not prepared??

And they are not overconfident , they release new IPs often , just this year Returnal, and Days Gone time ago.

Xbox is just buying companies , its the way dady Microsoft has done since the Windows era. You can not be creative so buy creators.

So the only strugling brand was Xbox, now they have IPs and Gamepass to compete...
