13900k early review....gaming improvements look very disappointing

this is bullshit.

Is he saying overclock vs overclock. I'm not going to even watch it because of the thumbnail.

Out the box it will beat 12900k by a good margin.

I went ahead and just grabbed a 7590x to pair with my 4090, just bit the bullet and selling my 5950/AM4 and memory set and fully jumped into AM5/DDR5. We all know the upcoming Zen4 3D cache chips will be the next big gaming chips, when those hit I'll sell the 7950 and grab a 7950 3d.

I'll re-evaluate Intel when they change sockets again, Raptor lake is the end of this socket, so wasn't worth jumping into for me.

oh well, still buying one. I need an upgrade to a 10900x for a DAW rig and there's no way in hell I'm going AMD so what's left?

I am not sure what to do. I have highly binned B-Die I don't want the added expense of new ram. I should have kept my 12900k in hindsight, but sold it for a pretty good price a few weeks ago

DD5 has hit the point of being worth it now that 6000+ kits are available, and prices arent too bad, paying $400 for 64gb's of DDR5 6000 Gskill. Basically the same price I paid for B-die DDR4 Tridents.

Yea but they basically perform the same in gaming for the most part, as latency is more important than the bandwidth.

Perhaps wait for a real channel instead of this nobody.

I trust this guys results for the most part over main stream channels. He actually tests with properly tuned ram, not 3200 CL16 nonsense like most of the main stream channels on their CPU tests. His tests here definitely isn't perfect, but it seems like this will run slightly better than a heabvily OC'd 12900k, perhaps with some decent improvents on the 0.1% lows.

God that thumbnail... 🤮

If you want to get an understanding of where we are today, go on YouTube and look at the thumbnails for the most popular videos.

"Benchmarked" on a remote machine?
No clue whether its an engineering sample, qualification sample or retail?
Thats a first for me from any reviewer....Youtube never fails to be trash.

Intel already told us not to expect some sort of generational leap between the 12900K and the 13900K in gaming.
Intel are back to doing Tick-Tock, with every Tick being a true generation and every Tock being a refinement of the last generation.
Think 2500K vs 3570K, in gaming they were near indistinguishable.

RPL is a refinement of ADL.....they didnt even shy away from saying yes in some titles the larger cache and frequency will have the thing perform better. better. But on the low end it will perform effectively the same as a 12900K in gaming.

I just need to see the productivity results of 12700 vs 13600K......ill either buy a cheap 12700 or get a 136K depending on the result.
In gaming my CPU is far far from being my bottleneck.

The 136K is keeping up with the X3D in early benchmarks?
I think Intel are okay with this refresh....if you already have a 12th gen K chip no need to upgrade.
AMD not releasing atleast one X3D is gonna bite them in the ass.
Cuz me thinks all the 13K chips will be at or better than the 7000 series.....at everything.

AMD better have their 7000X3Ds locked and loaded.
maxresdefault.jpg

Going from a 12400 to a 136K or 1x700 is my move from here....gonna hold whatever chip I decide on till NovaLake.
Rather strange it might actually be cheaper for me to get a 136K than to get a 12700.
Intel need have an official price drop on the 12th gen chips.

Event at the top end the 139K is beating the 7950X.
This is just a refresh not even a true new generation.

Stupid "efficient" cores. Worst CPU design ever. They had to kill AVX 512 for it too.

I want to go for AMD this time but i hate their power consumption and thermals.

I'm stuck with the i5 4670.

Wait so no modern cpu has AVX 512 support? I think that was great for RPCS3...

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I'll wait for real benchmarks and reviews.

EVen then I still wont get it. I have a 12700K and there is pretty much no way there will be a big enough increase to justify buying.

You can turn off the e cores and use AVX 512 with early ADL.
AVX 512 was lasered off the Intels so that their Xeon line actually sells.
If their consumer line and Xeon line can handle AVX 512 there would be very little reason to get the Xeon processors if your workload uses AVX512.

Yup, except for all the Xeon processors, all the 7000 series processors, early ADL processors.

Did that linus dude started this whole mongoloid thumbnails shit in tech channels or it was already a thing before him?

I'm not sure. I do remember Linus at least making a video explaining the thumbnails. Props to him for that at aleast.
Yeah he did a video where he explained these cringe thumbnails actually end up getting more views.
So obviously creators followed the trend that leads to more clicks.
People really are stupid, the fact these thumbnails actually work is empirical evidence of that.

Having watched the whole video I have to now block the entire channel, cuz i dont want this shit on my landing page.

Zero respect for anyone using these kinds of thumbnails. I don't care that they statistically get you more traffic.

Have some decency, for god's sake.
You'd be singing a different tune if you were to rake in thousands of dollars per video by using same tactics. Anyone who gets disgusted at these thumbnails is just a jealous child because they don't have the success that they wish someone else did.

Are they cringe? Yes, 100%
But they bring results and $$$.

Marketing 101. Stop lying to yourself.

In my heart I want to believe there is an /s at the end of this comment.

Looking at his view count I sincerely do not believe that his tactic is working. I mean I guess when you only have 24,000 views, any volume more could be a substantial increase.

Full disclosure, I think Linus is fucking cringe as shit as well, so if he's modeling after him, he's already lost this battle with me.

Thumb nails like this do work... but most that I've seen don't used such an exaggerated facial expression. The expression on most of his thumbnails are off-putting for tech reviews and better suited for a video going into detail about how someone died a horrible horrible death or a horror game play through.

If the thumb nail for the video in the OP was more like the one he's using for the "Now's it's anti-consumer" video I doubt anyone would have mentioned the thumbnails to begin with.

He has 18k subs and gets 10k+ average viewers per video. He was at 10k subs not all that long ago. I would say thats pretty good growth. Techdeals has half a million subs and only gets about 20-30k average per video.

Is he for everyone? No, he can definitely rub a lot of people the wrong way but I like the gaming OC content he does.

I have seen a few videos of him, and he seems to know his stuff, especially overclocking.
But he is very annoying to watch.

I used to watch him on the build up to the 3090 release. Then he went off on the deep end and he said something which made me think "what a prick" so I unsub'd him, forgot he existed until this thread.
Good to see nothing changed.

I remember being recommended a video of his and him deleting it before I clicked on it. Since that moment I have been vary wary of his content.

Raptor Lake launch is only two days away, no use reading much into early numbers with very limited testing... I'm looking forward to Techpowerup's review.

I have an overclocked 10700k, which is basically the same as your cpu. I’d wait for the 7800x3d in January if I were you. Our cpus are still plenty capable in the meantime.
