They also seem to love totalitarian dystopias (China's social credit system, WEF's Great Reset):

"Seriously, some of you should move to China."

No thanks. I see how black people are treated there and I ain't taking that gamble. If I wanted that type of racism, I would time traveled back in the 1920s Southern US. Fuck outta here with that soy boy bullshit.

Literally will have no material impact on sales. If this “intense pay dispute” is a front page headline, it must be a really slow news day in the games industry.

Really the only truly newsworthy thing about any of this would be Jason Schreier‘s reporting that she was actually offered far more than just “$4,000”. The initial story never really sounded right to begin with.

but they just wrote the check they dont control who does what in the game.

Nope, development is ultimately at Nintendo's discretion. They meet regularly throughout a project, discuss progress and request changes. The Wonderful 101 was initially done in a gritty comic book style until Nintendo asked PG to go in the direction of something more cartoony and colourful.

Not saying they had a hand in Taylor's fee, they might have, but to say Nintendo doesn't have anything to do with the projects they fund is incorrect.

Now THIS makes far more sense.

You know what? I do think this whole debacle will work out in Bayonetta 3's favor. The game is launching in days, and then this shitsyorm hits the fan, supposedely in favor of Hellena. But then an anime twist comes, and it turns out that not only she was lying, and was bound to get 5 times the pay for what, 2 weeks of work?

The Internet LOVES these kinds of stories, and now everyone will have their eyes on the game. Or will at least have heard of it, just before it launches. All the game needs to do is to be good and bam, the game will look like "coming from the ashes" story and people will be far more willing than before to give it a go.

Honestly, all of this feels like a blessing in disguise for Bayo 3. I hope I'm right, I want Bayo to sell what people think the franchise sells.

I see what has happened here. Those videos that she posted were merely leaked "audition" clips for an upcoming theatre role.
She was acting all along.

If anyone wants to take her advice how to wheel and deal wages, next time you go for an interview and HR says the job pays $60,000, counter asking for $300,000 + 2% of profits.

I’m confident the chat will go well.
I'll never understand why some women are so entitled, especially in financial matters.

Imagine if a man was entitled in having sex with a supermodel? Everyone would crucify him.

Free market has pros and cons. Whether it's money or sex. You can force anyone to give you what you want, even if you don't deserve it.

They can show Press Sneak Fuck proof but not the people who will buy the game? Both need to submit shit to the public since one of them are lying.

I feel stupid initially defending her. Should have waited for the receipts. Still, VA's still need to be paid more in general. I STILL WANNA SEE THE RECEIPTS.

$4,000 is not the same as $4,000 per recording session (minimum of 5). Even when she refused, PG offered her a cameo as the OG Bayonetta and she still refused.

Slow day? Dude Bayo 3 is about to come out, A Plague Tales: Requiem and Scorn just came out and Kamiya imploted, definitely not slow days lol This has been funny to follow up even tho I haven't commented on the subject on here... too many pages but now I'm up to date finally lol

"In the case of Bayonetta 3, the developer appeared to be determined to rehire Taylor, according to two people familiar with the negotiations as well as documentation reviewed by Bloomberg. Here's where their accounts differ: Platinum Games sought to hire Taylor for at least five sessions, each paying $3,000 to $4,000 for four hours in the studio, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they aren't authorized to discuss private contract negotiations. That would make the total for the game at least $15,000. In response, they said, Taylor asked for a six-figure sum as well as residuals on the game. Platinum declined and, following lengthy negotiations, took auditions for a new actor. Platinum later offered Taylor a cameo in the game for the fee of one session, which she turned down, the people said."

No sympathy for Helena Taylor at all, she would've got paid WAY better than her union suggested pay.

Turns out her greed was her own downfall.

Career suicide at it's finest.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Was expecting this kind of revelation back when I saw the initial video. It didn’t make sense that they’d offer only $4k. Even if they didn’t want to hire her, they simply wouldn’t have. VA contracts almost never extend to “future games”, so there was no reason to offer her anything if they simply were trying to squeeze her out.

Either way, I’m anxious for this whole dumb drama to just be over. I hope sales weren’t affected much by this, in either direction.

Wait! Has it been proven that she had lied about being offered $4,000 flat? All I've read so far is that 2 people claimed that it was $16k - $20k, and she wanted something else. We don't know whether that's a spin put out by Platinum Games or not with the game coming out in days. I can't see her making such a public video, and calling for a boycott of a game where thousands of others worked on, and not just her and it was all based on a lie. We need prove one way or the other before passing judgement. I can't believe how everyone is blasting her now, and calling her a "greedy bitch" when there's no proof out there.

What tells you she is the liar and it's not ther other side that's lying?

Exactly my point as well. Although I didn't like the way she had called for a boycott of the game like she was the only person who'd worked on it, I did feel sympathy for her if the $4,000 flat-rate for work on the entire game was true. Now we get this news from Bloomberg (who is not always reliable) days before the game comes out. We don't know yet which side is lying. It would be a career-suicide for her to make a video violating her NDA, and calling for a boycott of the game if she was the one lying. I can't see that happening. Need more proof than info from secondary sources at this point.

Yep. Everything you’ve mentioned is newsworthy; other than a voice actor being supposedly lowballed for a B-tier third-party Switch game.

One thing I've learned is that the internet/social media have programmed people (myself included) into being less discerning and very reactionary without waiting for details to develop, all in the rush to give hot takes.
Correction:

Smartphones (ease of use & mobile internet) make people more reactionary.

Social media existed 15 years ago... they weren't as bad as they are today. ;)

It was silly to believe Helena as soon as she made a claim with no real evidence to back it up.
It's just about as silly to now pivot and believe JAsoN ScHReir when he makes a claim with no real evidence.

To me it looks like people are just believeing what they want to be true.

I mean, your attitude is admirable, but we’re having Jason Whiteknight Schreier going against a woman’s version of the facts here. That’s basically as damning as it gets.

If these new developments are true then she's absolutely batshit insane and has no idea of her worth, the IP's worth, or how the game VA industry works. Residuals are almost never a thing in gaming, and six figures for a role in a niche franchise like Bayonetta is just head-up-ass ignorant.

Shame, because she'll always be the definitive Bayonetta for me no matter how good Hale is.

No, I disagree, I believe it's due to social media as it is now. It's the 24/7 feed, immediate audience, and the FOMO.
I still use my smartphone, but I've cut my social media use down dramatically. Because of that, I'm reaching for it less than ever and I feel all the better for it tbh.

I'm sure but there is still more to this.
If she is lying how does she not think she would be found out?

Like I think they lowballed her and this is largely her fault but surely to break NDAs she would want to have a good point and reason. It makes no sense at all from her point of view to take this chance for something that can be proven incorrectly in 5 seconds.

I don't think she's lying. This sounds like a massive misunderstanding and miscommunication that she took completely the wrong way.
