It shouldn't fall through. Acti wants to sell, ms wants to buy, be done with it. Make them put in writing cod won't be exclusive but will be allowed on gamepass. Then everyone wins.

Personally I would dump the acti deal and snatch up Capcom and ubi or Capcom and someone with a large catalogue of titles. They don't even have to be AAAA titles. Just a big catalogue . Like a digital revolver type of pub

Microsoft dont want that. They want full control of the call of duty ip. That's what this whole deal is about. If they can't get that it would be a total waste of money. 70b just to get cod on gamepass?

I think Act is having a change of heart more than anything. MS is prob trying everything to convince Act stay on track while Sony is working hard on messing up the deal.

What a drama this turned into 🤣

This is not a drama.
This is just people making assumptions, from MS response to EU.

From the post we had yesterday, it was all about regulators wanting MS to make concessions. And didn't MS didn't want to do that. So they went in to phase 2.

There won't be any decision, until phase 2 finishes. Until then, any article would just be a click bait like this article.

This is what most of you don’t get. MS want’s the biggest IP’s with the biggest fallowing that spends a ton on MTX to lure them into a GP sub. It’s basically a quick and easy way of increasing their GP subs. That’s the only thing they care about. That’s the whole point of this aquisition. If they really gave a damn about games there own catalogue of IP’s wouldn’t be in the state their in right now.

It's King, which makes the most money.
King is very valuable for MS.

Their own catalogue of IPs won them publisher of the year last year.

Actvision wants this deal to go through. They stand to make billions. Nothing to lose really.

If anything they want MS to make concessions so they can close the deal and make away with their billions they now stand to lose. See how Twitter essentially forced Musk to close the deal knowing full well he was going to fire the exec team and half the company. THey wanted that cash.

I think Microsoft as a Trilion dollars company could do much to add to gaming industry than this

They could build many studios from ground up, could invest this money on talents adding to new studios instead of buying what already there

Activision maybe the biggest publisher in industry, yes … but it is only a huge COD factory
now

Such waste on man power and studios sadly
They won't do that.

Too much work, much easier to just buy the biggest studio.

Activision Blizzard (ATVI) posted stronger-than-expected third quarter earnings Monday and said its planned $69 billion takeover by Microsoft (MSFT) is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
Activision said GAAP earnings for the three months ending in September were pegged at 55 cents per share, down 33% from the same period last year but topping Street consensus forecast of 50 cents per share. Group adjusted revenues, which exclude deferrals, fell 7.7% to $1.735 billion, but were just ahead of analysts' estimates of a $1.694 billion tally. In game net bookings rose 13.33% to $1.36 billion, Activision said.

"Our games are the result of passion and excellence. This comes from an environment that fosters inspiration, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to develop and support our talent," said CEO Bobby Kotick. "Our employees’ dedication and teamwork are at the heart of an extraordinary workplace that enables the magic embodied in our games.
"We look forward to continuing to release epic entertainment in service of our global community of players as a part of Microsoft, one of the world’s most admired companies," he added. "We continue to expect that our transaction will close in Microsoft’s current fiscal year ending June 2023."

Deal is looking to still be going strong....I don't even know whats best anymore....The deal goes through and MS makes some amazing Acti Blizzard games.....Or the deal flops and MS just goes on another crazy buying spree for smaller studios or exclusive games....

What's worse? I really dont know anymore.

I'd like to see Activision put out more varied titles and getting away CoD day in and day out. I'd also like the employees get away from Bobby Kotick. It's worse if the deal doesn't get through but I'm not too worried about it. MS planned for this hence the June 2023 close date.

I would have preferred by far, by far, that they had acquired some smaller indie/AA studios that are struggling for money and had pumped them with money and a support network. Could have probably acquired 10 such studios for less than £2b.

They won't do that.
They have plenty of studios built in house from the ground up or second party studios that formed with their help and later expanded or studios that expanded after they bought them. Be it Coalition or Turn 10, or there former second party studios like Playground Games or Undead Labs. Even the other studios they bought like InXile or Obsidian, that have greatly expanded to make AAA single player RPGs.
If you mean to say, all their studios should have been formed internally formed from the ground up, that would take decades to form and release new games. Just look at Fable, the second Playground Games studio formed from the ground up in 2017. You can't just make a new studio and release a game to represent your platform in 3-4 years. Only Nintendo has almost all their internal studios formed from the ground up, and they have been doing this when it was much easier to do so.

It's not just a COD factory. They also have the entirety of Blizzard. When you think of just how much under utilised IPs they have like StarCraft or studios like Raven Software. Only Microsoft can actually buy them.
