Insomniac Celebrating Resistance Anniversary

These games, particularly the first one. was the reason I wanted, and needed a ps3. say what you will about the ps3 Era of marketing and commercials. but fall of man was one of the games that stood out in the commercials for me personally.

Resistance dead? Insomniac says otherwise

Whats up with you wishing resistance to die ffs
yeah what where they say otherwise?

unless they working on a new project/reboot/game shit is dead af at this point.

also i recall them saying before they werent happy with how they handled resistance over the course of its lifetime. personally, i think they fucked up after the original game

Because they tweeted about it? The last game came out almost 12 years ago, what classifies as dead IP to you?
The last guardian took 16 years

Final Fantasy Versus and 7 Remake

That new silent hill game? How long has it been since the last game?

GTA 6 and TES VI are on tract to be another development hell

Like Duch Van Der Linde once said have some faith man

I played and finished Resistance 1 and 2 in 2022 for the first time, on RPCS3.

IMO they're both garbage tier games, with 2 being slightly better than 1, given how maddeningly difficult 1 is.

Worthless games.

Just started Resistance 3, so can't comment on it.

Insomanic: "Okay, everyone, that's our little celebration of the franchise done. Now we're going to take some questions from the viewers. Yes, Neogaffer1971 ..."

Neogaffer1971: "Hi, yes, just wondering if all of this is because you're teasing a remake, remaster, or new entry in the series?"

Insomniac: "Ha ha, yes, we'd thought this question would come up. The answer's no."

Neogaffer1971: "Fuck's sake."

Insomniac: "Yep, we knew you'd say that, too."

These are the games that deserve an remake. They are old but amazing games and you don’t have this Typ of games a lot.The closest to resistance is Doom.I mean not the genre I mean the alien monsters.

Is it just me that gets PTSD from seeing any PS3 game like Resistance?

The awful sluggish gameplay and horrific performance, like running through mud. The awful grey bland colours that Resistance had, they were never good games.

Wait, 16th Anniversary?

You don't make a big fuss out of a 16th Birthday unless they're a teenage girl. Something's going on. Hopefully a remaster package and not just "now on PS+!"

Nope, feel exactly the same way. This, MAG, Killzone, Warhawk, and all sonys other failed shooter efforts that gen, and yes along with the ugly ass grey-brown aesthetic they all had.

Im so happy Sony is out of that phase. Hopefully their new multiplayers will be a bit more diverse and unique

The only good thing about them was co-op in 2 (for its time) and single-player in 3, but overall nothing really worth wasting precious dev resources to remaster them.

I know resistance 1 was the worse game of the trilogy but it was also the one i enjoyed the most, probably for the novelty of new enemies and weapons.

Didn't liked the other 2 near as much.

I mean you had a lot of "ugly ass grey-brown aesthetic" shooter games but it wasn't just a Sony problem tbh.

That said i will always remember this Playstation era foundly. There were so many great experiments during the PS3 era...

Yeah, it's probably gonna be some kind of an announcement. Either a re-release for next-gen or maybe a completely new Resistance game? Either way, can't wait to see what's this is about. I always liked this series, and I wouldn't mind replaying those games in a new format, especially since the PS3 versions can be rough to play with that terrible aliasing and low framerate.

R 1 was amazing. The creative weapons , co op multiplayer , and the different health system (it regenerates but only upto a quarter) makes for some real intense battles.

R2 was a disappointment but still decent enough and worth a playthrough.

R3 was a return to form . Only played thru once but it was great.

I hope they do a remaster and a sequel.

The fist game is still the best one and really the only I care about, great setup and narrative delivery, fun guns with cool variety, cool grenades, different health system, neat enemies with lore attached to them and various ways of attacking, its literally the reason I got a PS3. Re2 while good story sucked and alot of the originality was sucked dry, they also killed the weapon wheel to copy popular call of duty. Re3 was better but I didnt care at all about the story also they never really managed to top how the first game unveiled new enemy types and lore to you but it was good too just not super memorable like the first.

Those games got multiple chances to ‘stick’ and they didn’t. What makes you think Insomniac or Guerrilla even want to go back to those franchises after finding success with new stuff, what makes you think any studio wants to revive dead ip instead of making new stuff?

How do you know sony dont have far more interesting stuff in development?

And God of War actually did pretty well sales wise, 5m for those games wasn’t that bad back then. Not only that but GoW always had prestige, every game in the mainline series is rated over 90 on MC. They always reviewed well and were always one of the better IP’s playstation had

Destruction All Stars was an epic failure and I’m sure Sony won’t fund 3 more of them

Sony has a long history with Lucid and this game wouldn't have cost much to make and they needed launch titles (Which this was intended to be).

There are many reasons to fund this game. Lucid has quite a history as the successor to Bizzare who made the Project Gotham games. Building this studio up to where they can maybe make an arcade racing game or any legit game goes a long way.

It's not a matter of this or Resistance or any other game. It's a matter of can you throw out a title that might catch on and can you build relationships with external studios.

It was a wild generation for sure. Opened me up to a lot of new genres, and I'm thankful for that.

Sony’s second best shooter after SOCOM. I’d love a trilogy remaster too, but a brand new PS5 only sequel would be glorious.

I remember when it was known as I:8 or whatever that was. Fall of Man and Casino Royal were the first two purchases for my 60 GB PS3.

I had all three at launch. Shooting through walls, tracers, and following along with the story. I’d say R3 was my favorite. R2’s graphics were muddy and for whatever reason I didn’t care for the level design. It takes me back to when this and KillZone were the games to play.

resistance 2 will always have a soft spot in my heart as it was my first PS3 game. I remember how I desperately searched for L3 to press and even had to use Google to find it. As a Nintendo kid with the PS3 being my first Sony, I can handle the shame nowadays. Oh and the village level gave me the creeps!

Spiderman PS5 and Wolverine PS5 are going to sell a bajillion copies. Insomniac isn’t going back to Resistance anytime soon. A campaign remaster would happen AT BEST.

First one is my favorite of the PS3 games, I was actually playing through it a few months ago. Controls are pre Modern Warfare so they're kind of wonky but you get used to them. I feel like Retribution on the PSP is the best overall in terms of narrative though. James Grayson was infinitely better than Nathan Hale as a character.

The Resistance series overall is such a disappointment to me though, the narrative was all over the place. Kind of like Killzone. You have a really interesting premise but the writing is just awful for the most part with poorly developed characters.

I do really enjoy the series as a whole even though I have a lot of issues with it, and the issues largely stem from the fact that Insomniac is capable of so much more when it comes to the story department. They could 100% get it right if they rebooted the series.

Special shoutout to Resistance 2 online coop. It was like a really dumbed down version of L4D but holy smokes was it fun! People were right to be upset when they removed it from Resistance 3, R2 coop was seriously one of the best online modes that the PS3 had at the time and the servers were always full of great people to play with, just chatting and having fun.

Sony are sitting on a gold mine with dormant franchises such as Resistance, Killzone, Warhawk, Starhawk and SOCOM. Stop fucking around and revive them.
I find the lack of Warhawk and SOCOM to be baffling, quite frankly. Tactical shooters are more popular than ever (R6 Siege, CSGO, even ARMA) and SOCOM was always one of the best ones. Warhawk is so unique and had an audience for the entire PS3 generation even if Starhawk shit the bed. Also a shout out to MAG which was a large scale multiplayer shooter on console when nobody else was doing it.

The one guy in this thread is right, these weren’t gazillion seller games. If Sony wasnt spending billions of dollars on multiplayer/live service experiences, I would understand why they would be leaving these games dormant. They really want people to be playing MP on their platform with their games. They are also worried about a world where MS keeps COD from them, yet instead of releasing cool multiplayer action games to find an audience they just sign over blank checks to Jade Raymond talking nonsense about “shared experiences.”

Never played the games, but I got somewhat curious because of Yahtzee's review of #3.
Would buy a trilogy collection on PC. So get on it!
