FTC Seeks to Block Microsoft Corp’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

I honestly don't play any Activision or Blizzard games except Diablo. Not a huge deal to me personally. But I do think it's a bit ridiculous still to block this on the merits of competition when all I see is Sony dominance and anti-competitive actions frequently. I think the FTC is picking the wrong fight 100%. Xbox being stronger is going to result in more competition at this point. But not the end of the world for me either way, as far as what I personally play. MS can buy small studios and they will probably have more stuff I'm actually interested in. This will certainly be maximum drama.
that is pretty spot on.

I honestly feel relieved that this deal might either get blocked or at least they'll forbid MS from making games exclusive.
By all means, MS, compete, make marketing deals or timed exclusive but don't go buying whole fucking publishers and hamper competition further.
Get good at your job, MS.

FWIW the FTC loss in court against 3 different mergers last September (2022) alone

100% sure they are pretending.
If I had life savings I would put everything on it.

Straight up fact they want Activision games to be removed from playstation.

The Xbox warriors are getting more and more confused by the minute:

- First they cheered for CoD exclusivity when the deal was announced

- Yesterday they cheered when the "Nintendo deal" was announced because they were sure the deal would go through after that

- Now they want MS to fight and win in court so they can make CoD exclusive again....

Amazing

All this over candy crush.

If this does fall through I hope it has long term ramifications on exclusives specifically timed and exclusive marketing perks company to company. If it just ends with them unable to buy but no impact on the things Sony is complaining about that will be silly.

If the deal is approved, it would set fire on the market.
Concession or no Concession, this deal would signal to the big dogs that gaming market is open business.

Expect big purchases with no limits, because activision was the biggest of all prizes.

Your favorite publisher is going to be bought, by someone you dont like.

I personally want it to fail hard, so these shit dont happen. I already lost bethesda to MS.

I genuinely think that it does. Pretty obviously too. Thats the only reason I'd prefer it goes through. I barely even play these games personally.

Pick one. Because MS isnt pro gamers, They are pro profit.

I don't need to pick one. as it stands right now, PS and XB gamers can play COD. The largest user base on console gets it removed. This is not a pro-gamer move no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

All I have to say is that if this goes to court the documents and revelations that will come out of it will be delicious, particularly on the contracts side of things.

Much crow will be eaten. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Hopefully they don't seal half of the meaty stuff and let it rain like Apple/Epic.

Pay close attention to the end outcome of all this. I've saved your post.

The FTC has an incredibly weak argument if their source is self-defeating via the MS conclusion to Bethesda's purchase.

Or maybe the ftc are privy to what MS told the EU.

I doubt they give 2 fuqs what MS said to the CMA recently.

As usual though pretty large stretch linking what you quoted to what the FTC said.

It couldn't be any clearer, MS misled the EU for the bethesda deal to be passed.

Guess we'll find out in court. As it really is the deal breaker.

Update before adam shits a brick, the quote is from the eu summary document not my fault he cannot make a working link, shame he didnt read on as he wouldve seen exactly what the FTC had said.

maybe they should just handle better the moneyhat bidding wars and stomp Sony for a few years, they have the money to do it 🤷‍♂️

It was never going to be removed.
Original 3 year deal and then 10.

Now reports seem to be saying MS backed out on their promise to release certain zenimax games on PS?

Yeah, seems like they don't intend to keep it on PS for more than that.

So you agree that 10 year "commitment" bullshittery was just that? PR bullshit?
It was an excessively generous, unnecessary and unrequired contract that no one else has ever really done prior because Sony was lying and exaggerating. I agree with Gabe's take on it.

Except Sony continuing to block the games on GP.
Why does this happen? Because Sony pays for it as part of their marketing rights. Which not only changes hands every few years normally, but are governed entirely by one thing: money. And I promise you, the marketing rights for CoD costs significantly less than $69 billion.

Nah. I want these games on gamepass. I think people don’t understand that’s the biggest want for most Xbox fans. Not paying 70$ a year for cod is great for me.
Again, Microsoft can pay Activision to put CoD on Gamepass right now if they wanted to (once the Sony marketing rights are up). And every other Activision game. And every Blizzard game. Everything can be on Gamepass right now if Microsoft wanted. Maybe ask Microsoft why they arent.

lmao this is gonna be a funny thread to look back on in a year's time. MS will give a few concession and beat the case.

Show me where anyone, at any point threatened to remove COD from playstation. Hell Nintendo signed a 10 yr deal and the merger hasn't even gone through. The deal with Sony afaik is still on the table. Last month Sony fans were trying to convince us that MS would Never pull it from ps because it's free revenue, now we're scared that "The largest user base on console gets it removed."
